  • I spent $221.65 all together for my cloth diaper stash ($141.65 at cotton babies & $80 for the lil ecos pocket diapers).
    That's 10 diaper covers, 36 prefolds (i plan to give some to a friend), 2 diaper pail liners, and 14 pocket diapers. And they were all brand new!! Some people sell their used stash for that much. So awesome great deals!!
    cottonbabies.com
    They by far have the cheapest prefolds & covers you can find on the market. Even cheaper than eBay and Amazon. Plus you're getting high quality diapers. Cotton Babies are the makers of BumGenius.

    Bum genius is definitively one of the most expensive diaper brands out there.....not so sure about them being one of the best, some are good some are terrible 😉
    I totally agree about microfiber...stinky!!! And covers are the best way to go (though I use flats under mine)

    Aloha from a Maui girl. We are also repeat cloth diaper users and are using Cotton Babies' new elemental joy system and the old style Econobum system. Over the years, we've done it all, and had different favorite systems, but I'm just really loving the simplicity of this system this time around. :)

      Maui sisters HEY!!! :) Is the elemental an all in one?? When my son was one we scored free bum genius aio's at the Kihei Clothing Exchange. I love love love love love them!!!! I couldn't afford bum genius aio's so to get them for free was amazing!!! I'm so thankful!!! We still use them till today and also do the prefolds/cover for night time & when I'm out of aio's >_<
      Hope you are doing well sister!!!

    Really great video! I also had the same cloth diaper experience with lending my stash to someone! And all of our swings and cribs and etc. So we had to start all over with baby #2.... so not fair :)

    You did so well to buy the diapers and well done for doing cloth diapers . You got a lot of stuff for $ spent. So sad that you didn’t get your daughters stuff back. Mahalo Reynelle.

      Thanks Leisha :) I know I was pretty bummed they didn't give it back either. But my daughters CD stash had a lot of bamboo/hemp fitted diapers that I didn't really care for because it's like putting 2 diapers on with a fitted & diaper cover. So in a way it's like I get to use my dream cloth diaper stash that works for me. Thank goodness the cloth diapers I like the most are actually the cheapest option!!! lolz

    Hello I love that you used cloth diapers! I am 7 months pregnant and I’ve made the decision to use cloth diapers as well. I just ordered some from cotton babies plus some from amazon! This is my first baby and I’m kind of nervous plus some family are against it, but it’s a lot cheaper! I’m more so a mixture of a frugal minimalist and Im trying to save as much as possible. Congrats on your new edition to your family!!

      Telliyah Kennedy Hi Telliyah :) Thank you!!!Congratulations to u too!! That's awesome that your gona cloth diaper. It saves so much money and the environment. For family members (like daddy & grandparents) pocket diapers & aio's worked better for them to use.

      Reynelle yes most definitely going to cloth diaper!! I’ve always wanted to but was a bit scared when it came to cleaning and everything, but I’m going to try it out, trying to save as much money as possible especially in the beginning when I’m not working as much. Plus you’re right it’s so much better for the environment!!

      The washing isn't too bad. It's only 2 extra loads per week. It also depends on how often you wash them. We wash CDs every 3-4 days. You'll do awesome!! You have a great mindset that's determined to succeed :)

      Reynelle Thank you so much for your kind words!!! You truly are one of my favorite people to watch on CZcams!! You’re so inspiring!! That’s not too bad with the washing either! I’m moving to an apartment soon with free water so that’s even better lol cloth diapering is just so much better than disposable ones and it’s such a money saver! Thank you for doing this video!! Can’t wait for the next one!!

      Once you go cloth you never go back! 😂 First baby I hadn't bought a newborn stash, figured it would be outgrown too fast, turns out I had a long and skinny baby, so newborn diapers would've been awesome, but it let me experience disposables for 3+ months, until baby got into her one size stash, which were still a bit too big, but mama was tired of disposables! My experience with disposables, they were yucky feeling on the skin, smelled weird when dirty, cost a lot (not necessarily a ton, but it just was so frustrating buying something, knowing it was literally destined for the trash), also not eco friendly at all. I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my second one and have purchased some newborn diapers this time around, so looking forward to cloth diapering from day 1 😁💕

    What type of inserts do you use for your pocket diapers? Also, in what size were your prefolds?

    Did you say big island? I'm here in Hawaii as well! On Oahu myself and have wanted to CD for awhile and being in Hawaii has really motivated me to be more zero waste! ❤

    • @reynelle87
      @reynelle87  Před 6 lety +3

      Hi Celia :) That's awesome that your in Hawaii as well!!! Start off with a few diapers and see if it works for you. Love that the zero waste low waste movement is growing. All the pollution on the beaches, in the ocean, and landfills is so sad and depressing. It's affecting the animals, sea life, us, the air, the water, the earth, etc. It's impossible to be completely zero waste but being more low waste and mindful totally helps.

      Hi Iliana!! Congratulations on baby on the way!! 😊. I wash CDs every 3-4 days. I do a cold rinse, then hot wash with CD safe laundry detergent, then a final cold rinse. And then line dry the covers. The inserts I usually put them into the dryer (once in a while I'll line dry them too).
      Here's a link on how to wash cloth diapers: www.nickisdiapers.com/washing-cloth-diapers.html.
      I'll do a cloth diaper wash routine video soon :) There's so many different ways to wash CDs and so many different diapers. So just gata find what work best for your diapers & your washer machine.

    I have a questions, how long will it usually last before you change baby again? And for poops, do you just throw them in the washer or hand wash?

    • @reynelle87
      @reynelle87  Před 6 lety +1

      Aimee Arcilla Hi Aimee :) Diaper changes vary and depends on your baby. In the newborn phase babies usually go through more diapers and as they get older they use less diapers. I've never had trouble with blowouts or leakage with CD's, especially with prefolds & covers. I change diapers every 2-4 hours doing the day, sometimes more sometimes less depends if baby soiled or wet the diaper.
      Newborn poop (from babies who as exclusively breastfed) is water soluble so can just wash the diaper as is. If baby is on formula or eating solid foods you would have to scrap off the poop into the toilet first before washing. Honestly it's not that bad. Once their older and their poop is more solid, it just plops right into the toilet 🤣.

      Diaper sprayer, easiest way to get peanut butter poop out of the diaper and into the toilet. Or flushable liner.

    Do you start at birth? I'm expecting #3 and have big babies. Would the econobum fit from birth? I have a few newborn diapers, but don't know if I should invest in more... any insight is helpful! TIA!

    • @reynelle87
      @reynelle87  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi :) Congratulations on baby #3!!! How exciting!!! The econobum one size covers fits babies 8-35 lbs. My son surprised us a little early so we used disposables for the first 3 weeks. He was to tiny to fit the one size cd's. He does wear them now, they are a bit bulky, so we've been liking the pockets for a trimmer fit, but we still use them all.

    If you want to save money and on a tight budget, stay away from bumgenius and all the side brands of it like flip and econobum. Also a flour sack towel has the exact same absorbency with microfiber inserts so don't spend your money on overpriced microfiber inserts.
