I love Mikes passion and joy for Star Wars; you can tell he’s a true fan through and through. Very wholesome interview.
I absolutely love the revenge of the Sith novelization references. Brotherhood is a 10/10 novel for me despite the lack of clones which wasn’t the focus. It was about the brotherhood relationship between anakin and Obi-wan, and Mike absolutely delivers
I want Mike Chen to please write a million more prequel era books ❤️❤️❤️. Loved Brotherhood so freaking much. Great interview as always 🥰
Qui-Gon said "These Federation types are cowards..."; he did not disparage an entire race. Leave my boy alone.
ALSO (from RotS novelization):
Cody: "...when have I ever let you down?"
OWK: "Cato Neimoidia comes to mind."
Cody: "That was General Skywalker's fault. He was late."
Love it when authors of Star Wars novels are legit Star Wars fans. Great interview and I love Mike Chen’s passion for Star Wars.
this guy GETS IT
God it is SO cool you get interviews with the artists and writers, I always love how you just cover starwars no matter what for people to just know about lore and everything
Love the book so far, audiobook is awesome. This was a great interview. I totally agree that the best aspect of the Prequels is the worldbuilding, it feels like there is endless possibilities.
I really like the Clone Wars vibe. The author is clearly a massive SW fan, tons of references throughout. I love the references to the old Clone Wars cartoon from 2003.
I also love the stuff with Dex. Always thought it was weird we didn't see more of him in The Clone Wars. He was so likeable in Attack of the Clones
Couldn't agree more on all points. How good is the audiobook, too? Enjoying that so much. Almost done, just in time for the 27th.
In the book, I love how he humanised some of the Jedi. In the films they are seen as strict individuals who have no sense of humour, but this book really helps with that.
This man needs to write as much Star Wars as he can be allowed. So good and genuine. Also his love for Stovers RotS novelization just makes me love the dude more cause that’s my favorite Star Wars novel of all time to this day.
I love seeing these interviews and how much the authors enjoy Star Wars. It makes it even funnier when haters online say "this author doesn't know Star Wars."
I really enjoyed Brotherhood. I feel like Mike understands these characters very well, especially Anakin. I really enjoyed Mill, too. I’d love to see more of her.
I also read it immediately after Master and Apprentice, and it felt almost like a sequel to that.
I liked this book before I watched this interview but now I like it even more. Nice to see the thoughtfulness going into creating more lore and not just "checking boxes".
Mike Chen seems to get Star Wars at a fundamental level and it really showed in his writing. Loved the book and this interview!
So glad we have more content during the first few months of the Clone Wars, especially since TCW starts around 6 months after the first Battle of Geonosis
This book feels like a lost Season 0 of the Clone Wars, which is awesome.
(Also, speaking of Deep Space 9, would say if you're a Star Wars fan who is not into Star Trek, I highly recommend DS9. By far my favorite Star Trek series)
Exactly! That or episode 2.5 of the films. It fits right in so well.
Agreed. The prose and style feels like a really good arc of the Clone Wars. I also loved the references to the old 2003 cartoon
@@Major98 Mace fighting that battle on Dantooine is practically canon by now.
So excited to get started on this novel
Great interview. I'm only a few chapters in but I already think it's one of the best Star Wars books of all time. The way he dives into the heads of each character is masterfully done.
I hope I get to see you guys at Celebration!
I picked up my copy before watching this. I was already excited, but now even more so. I can't wait to dive in tonight.
As a big fan of Star Trek as well as Star Wars I was really happy to hear about the Deep Space Nine inspirations. DS9 is my absolute favorite Star Trek series.
I knew it. Star Trek references in a Star Wars book. I love DS9 I was so glad of that conformation. YAY
Never listened to an interview and because of that interview I immediately bought something until now. Impressive guy
Loved the interview and his passion for the story. Bought the book just now ! Thanks!
Really enjoyed this book.
I liked 2 new characters, a Jedi initiate (youngling) and a Neimoidian commando, much more than I expected.
I'd certainly recommend this one.
This was a great interview and I love Mike's passion for Star Wars. This interview sold me on getting the book next.
I agree with Chen. The ROTS novel is fantastic. It gets Anakin on a level TCW just doesn’t.
@Chosen One They are… but one is better

I’d love for this to be a podcast so I could listening to it at work!
Just checked and it is, thanks!
Watching this interview again preparing for Mike's story about Anakin Skywalker becoming a force ghost in from a certain point of view return of the Jedi, really hoping a fantastic story like Brotherhood, by far the best canon novel side by side with Thrawn IMO.
Another great interview! I love Mike Chen's enthusiasm!
Great job Alex - nice to see you getting cool hook ups with authors and actors!
Go Mike! LOVED your book!
Great video love this interview. What a nice guy. I must read brotherhood and rots asap.
You always do such a great job with your interviews 🤓 just picked up this book and am planning to read it while on vacation this week. Looking forward to it tremendously 😎
My book just arrived yesterday! Reading Master and Apprentice first, Now i’m gonna read queens hope before also 😂 as fast as possible
Does Mike Chen live onboard a Galaxy class ship? I can see one of the corridors outside his door.
Is that a Star Trek reference?
I think it’s a poster on his door lmao. But that is DEFINITELY a TNG Enterprise-D hallway.
Loved Chen’s work on that short story he referenced, disturbance. One of my favorite pieces of all Star Wars. Especially the audiobooks version. Blew by this new book. Gonna give it another listen
This is super cool! Keep it up!
I have been looking forward to this !
Very interesting
Great interview, Mike seems like such a cool and genuine fan!
I’m going to hold off buying the book so I can get it at celebration and get it signed hopefully 🙏
awesome interview, Chen really loves star wars man
Thank you
The two of you are adorable together. Such peas in a nerdpod.
Yeah!
Great Interview
Thanks, Alex! Thanks, Mike! ✍🏼
Was already looking foreward to reading this, now I'm hyped!
Nice job once again Alex!
great interview, can't wait to start reading this
I have never read a Star Wars novel but I might start by picking up this book
Love hearing from writers 💕 2/3rds through love this book more please
Reading this, I almost feel like it’s 2002 or 2003 again and Episode II has just come out and I‘m reading the continuation novel. Fantastic. The last line btw is (Spoilers obviously, kinda) „And together, they‘re unstoppable!“
What a great book. It did leave me with 1 question though. But I think I will wait until your spoiler video to ask.
I'm currently enjoying this book but noticed one canon slip. Anakin's padiwan braid being encased in carbonite. In Revenge of the Sith we see the braid entwined in Padme's fingers at her funeral. What's the deal?
Gunji and the gang are hiding in the circus.
Wait, what is the Doctor Who Easter egg???
DS9 fan in the house 🙌🏽
WHOOOOOOO
Anyone know what the Final Fantasy reference was?
I can't remember the exact wording but there was a reference to a flower blooming in the slums.
@@DarthMagusMT Brilliant! Thanks 😊
@@groge511 no problem!
There's also a reference to Blitzball from Final Fantasy X! Page 174 in the hardcover
@@RyanSaylorTV that's right yeah I forgot to mention that one. 😅
