“I don’t do anything tactically. I don’t even really do anything tactfully.” Same here, brother. Same here.
Your'e a tactically technical tact technician using tactics and technique to tout your wares to us !
Many thanks, tactically of course.
Always fun to watch you destoy a sword. Should try and get your hands on one of the APOC tactical katana to destroy...
“ooo Samurai sword”
*Uses it like a machete*
Tactical bruh
Did you even listen to the review? He does address the hardened dull edge, and how it doesn’t cut like traditional swords he has reviewed, and it functioned better as a chopper, such as a machete... because of the chiseled edge..
The choice of music for the testing footage was awesome, I must say. And @12:03, I suppose "Hulk smash!" is mildly appropriate. :)
Damn, Matt... you have some big ol balls to chop away like that with mystery steel. You couldn't pay me enough... At least you had the eyepro LOL.
Less courage and more stupidity. In my defense I tested the sword on progressively harder targets and generally flaws will show on tatami or other impact related tests. I felt pretty confident in the sword before I got to doing really hard hits on branches. You still have a valid point though. It is very possible there was a flaw and that could have gone bad at anytime.
Well if anyone is "qualified" for something like this, it is you ha...
Knocking the lid off the gallon jug was the highlight of the video for me.
HAHAHA! At 12:04 I thought I took the wrong meds or I was sudddenly in the late 60's again. Nicely done.
Also Also...green becomes you in the alternate universe.
I always wondered about that nihonto scroll you have up in that room. Where did you get it?
Can anyone confirm if this is true full tang? Seen pictures of similar tactical katanas by different companies with welded tangs (united cutlery and handmade sword)
So with all of the destruction testing you didn't find a weld in the tang of the handle ? because that's was a issue with some of this tactical full tang budget sword copies of a Katana.
Was looking at the Honshu tactical katana 1060 steel
I’ve heard claim that the sword isn’t actually full tang, but some sort of spot welded nightmare, which can supposedly be revealed by removing the plastic hand guards. Any idea if this is true?
This was the shorter wakizashi version. They have a katana length version as well.
I noticed the flex test, but couldn't make out how the tip fared? Did it retain a bend in either direction? Looked like it recovered pretty well.
It did hold up well. It was a pretty stout tip and it did not bend or break easily.
I've got a couple uber-cheapy beaters coming along with a DH T10 "sample" from United/BudK/True Swords. Not sample like freebie, but sample=specimen.
I fully intend to beat the ever loving piss out of the cheapies, and be nice to the decent blade.
Where in MN are you, anyway? Maybe you'd like to review the T10 blade?
I think it would be more accurate to refer to that "chisel tip" as a microbevel.
Chisel edge usualy means that the bevel is only ground on one side.
My chose of wording there was very poor.
@@Matthew_Jensen it's ok. We still have confusing feelings for you.
Thank you
What is your opinion on those cheap looking doble edged katanas thar are there in the market?
Sounds like with a regrind and a better handle it would be fairly good. Ok i guess if youre short on money but not on time to work on it.
Good review as usual, I like the addition of the music but would suggest to turn it down a little.
I can't seem to find the right balance. When I have the audio track in the editors I drop them by 20db. I can barely hear the audio track when I play it in the editor and barley when I play it back after rendering. I am thinking about skipping soundtrack side of things all together.
So sharpen it, get it a kydex sheeth and finally grap the handle with sports handle wrap.
I bought it and it was a piece of crap, the Honshu Boshin Wakazashi is waaaaayyy better, got it and love it. Thank you for the video.
If the blade is 2ft its a Katana. But no Katana is the same it could be longer or shorter based on the persons arm lenth so is a samurai was 5'11 he would have a modern lenth Katana so the Katanas we have today do the 2ft to 3ft.
Can you do one on a Shinwea sword? they seem of decent quality.
I have not had one yet.. I will see if the opportunity pops up.
Ye just got mine in the mail, a steal for 130 dollas.
Did he mention how much it costs? :P
Are the handle panels [scales?] glued on, save the screws?
they were glued and had some sort of screw or rivet pin.
If you don't mind.. how sharp did this come out of the box?
Not very
@@Matthew_Jensen thanks, brother. Yeah I'm good on that thing after some research. $110 on Amazon right now.. I'm just going to wait till my account has more play money in it and cop something else. The tang is on the sides of the handle.. wouldnt you have to even oil that as well in the long run? That pattern seems like such a bad idea from the jump
Is there a reasonably priced wakizashi that you would recommend?
I'm looking at the cold steel wakizashi, they also have a slightly longer blade with the chisa katana. They look pretty nice. I'm looking to purchase a decent short sword too and thinking of one of those cold steels. Have not handled in person though.
Someone else in comments below said this sword sucked and that the Honshu boshin wakazashi was way better. Again, have not handled any of these. Cold steel seems to make quality stuff though 🤷♂️
Oh and the Condor tactana looks pretty decent too.
Ey Matt you got me interested in this sword and I followed the link and I think there's something odd about it-the link is for brand "DFY" however Musashi has an Amazon store...same sword but theirs is $149.99 and the DFY is $89.99...I think I may get one but I'm going for the more expensive one as I ain't sure it's real, may be a copy or something weirder still it's the same store "1sword" so I have no idea what is up with that.
Well I sold some stuff and got the $149 one and I'm quite happy-first sword I've ever had that cuts water bottles, and honestly it's more my speed i.e. I'm not tactical but I am "rough" and want something to figure out how to fight with and kill things with a sword, this will do that and no handle to worry about wrapping coming loose or the pommel cap coming off or other shit.
So yea if somebody wants a more practical katana to learn how to fight with it this'll do it.
Also...they may have changed this sword since the review-mine has no secondary bevel,it's just one smooth angle from the bo-hi down to the edge it looks nothing like Matt's version it looks like what a better katana would, cuts like it too so far.
WOW! You can cut stuff REALLY FAST!!!
lol
So is it katana or not?? You can’t tell?
Manganese steel?
went outside and tested my blade and although my blade was sharp out of the box unlike yours I don’t think my blade was heat treated like yours…. Unless they only heat treated the one they sent you because mine bends and keeps shape and don’t bend back….. I feel as if I wasted my money because they are $100 now and not $60
I believe the musha line is 1045 and I'm honestly shocked it didn't snap during the bend test but rather the impact with the other sword. (Not very reliable in a sword fight!!!) which is contrary to what I woulda thought when it would break. They are still on Amazon and show it as 1045 carbon steel and strangely now a bit more expensive. Considering the quality of the steel alone and I wouldn't pay $50 for it so I'm surprised anyone would pay more.
Thank you for doing this test. I'm sure you saved a lot of folks a lot disappointment and some money which is always nice
"tactical" just refers to the handle not being traditional... and the super cheap one's are usually 1045 steel, rather than 1060.
Is 1060 model a better option to get?
@@Wano-Oni-Samurai89 yes
Why is this 250 dollars on amazon and not 60 for me?
no idea..
U should do a review of lyueswords shirasaya wakizashi
It is not on the coming list. I did own one Lyuesword piece and it was decent.
@@Matthew_Jensen waiting for mine right now. Might post my review on Instagram lol
It is a wakazashi, the katana is like 39in' blade. ☘
My bad,29 inches. 🥴.☘
Yours ain’t sharp for sword work? Mine was literally shave the hairs off my arm sharp right out of the box also it’s made out of 1095 carbon steel. But the price has went up on them so I’m guessing they are better quality now than when you bought it
or perhaps quality control is really hit and miss, so some come out good, some not. I personally have no experience with this brand, so just a hypothetical possibility. But yeah if the steel is actually different... they definitely upped their game.
@@JordanClymer-fh3pf yeah I found out because I ordered a second one and it bent after the first swing on a mat
Hello Matthew how are you ? I need your help and is that I found a katana that I would like to buy in an online site that comes from Japan the sword I want is around 800 dollars all perfect but in the description of the sword says that the material is reinforced zinc aluminum alloy do you think you can give me some advice on what I should do, do you think it's a good material? , thank you very much have a good day
It is a great material for an iaito. The swords are not sharp and not used for cutting. They are used for iai, and they are nice because they dont rust and they are light but also have enough weight to feel like a sword.
Be careful when chopping tablets or laptops. If they come with lithium battery they can explode with fiery results when punctured.
I try to ensure they are discharged first.
@@Matthew_Jensen ......... Can you do it to one fully charged? I kinda wanna see it now
@@bobbyrayvictory6905 Just search lithium battery fire or such. Plenty of youtube videos on the subject. Lithium-ion batteries are very reactive with air and batteries made with it hold a lot of energy and when punctured the energy is released -> really, really hot but short burst of fire. In fact there have been few examples of smartphones with faulty (or cheap chinese aftermarket crap) batteries giving people bad burns when they, for some random reason, happen to break down in their pockets.
1060 carbon steel
The sword its not axe
Basically it tried its 65 best but its not a sword
🙄 u have to use tactical gloves when playing with ur tactical sword... duh... dont forget ur tactical safety glasses and tactical head band. 👍
Ummmm yeah..... That's why ya should put your own edge on it. Duh lol
It's not made for a teenager hacking weeds.... It's made for battle. Duh again.
Just me personally, but if the sword is listed as "Tactical Samurai Sword" I feel it's only right to make the review as "Tactical Samurai Sword" instead of "Tactical Katana"
So sad about the weapon dynamics. :'(
Oh my God, best music. Vaudevillian ragtime too appropriate.
You probably cut more materials than I have but even so, when you slow mo'd the iPad, I kinda freaked out when I didn't see that you didn't have any safety glasses
That is a fair point about the name. I suppose I called it that based on the length. At 27.5 inches (26.5) if you figure a normal blade would have a habaki.. It is Katana length.. I called it a katana just because that is the size it fit based on what I understand of Japanese style blades. Still, valid point.
Makes sense, I understand your desire to classify things as I do that too when it's an unnamed sword.
By the way, not sure if you've seen the rest of my post. I continued editing as the video progressed. Anyway, I find the review enjoyable as always. Thanks!
That's not tactical, it's not painted black. For $65 not bad, it could be worse. The blade shape looks a bit like a pipe back saber. The hilt looks like a messer. Easy enough to replace the scales, perhaps with oak or maple. Could use a better guard, like a cross with a nail. Presto chango, you have a lange messer.
*LOL! They haven’t sold a single one after this video.*
God you're stupid
when you want to buy an actual function-able cutting Katana...dont buy something from Amazon. Go directly to the sword manufacturers website to buy the sword...If you cant buy a sword directly from the manufacturer than chances are...that sword is a piece of shit.
Bro you're swinging that sword like its a stick in your hand. Use proper technique or dont do the review.
Hey you wanna go hang out at the driving range and harass people about their swing?
Tactical?? That’s a such a broad term,,people always forget that they are the weapon, who pulls the trigger, pushes the button or draws a sword 🗡,,Until the rise of AI we’re the ones who are tactical ,,I will give you my “Tactical “ shovel go and dig irrigation kanal…
You talk so much just have some God damn confidence and start your review
I would recommend watching it on mute.. I am confident you will enjoy it more.
Totally the worst advice.
