I think the Cummins truck would be a great vehicle to keep around especially to just tow your vehicles around and not have to rely on other people to tow them for you guys.
Definitely rebuild the Dually! They are totally worth the fix!
I would love to see a rebuild on the "new" truck. As you said, it would make for a great tow vehicle, especially if you can get things like the trailer brakes and stuff sorted out as well. Trucks like that are something that we hardly ever see over here in the UK, they are just too big for our local roads so seeing a build of this would be very cool.
Keep the truck, fix it. With the supply line problems today I can see moving to the project you have the most parts for. Chris, Oscar and Kyle, you guys are doing great. Been watching since the first (Camaro build)
Always a reason that these heavy duty trucks get totaled. I just went thru this on a 2006 Chevy Duramax. Change the frame....not that bad, especially for you guys. Just take bed and cab off then when you have other frame park them next to each other and swap drivetrain. I did it at home by myself. Have fun!
I just did it on an 08 duramax people offered to pull it but a proper frame will always sit better
Good thing you told them that. I mean, it's not like they literally cut cars in half and put them back together all the time. They don't know anything about frames! Good looking out!
@Erik Larson, does being an ass on the internet make you feel better about yourself?
Put the diesel in the Italian super yacht and get that thing going again
Dude…keep the truck and build it! I’d also love to see a cool trailer build as well to haul all of your cars with a mobile mechanic shop in the trailer. You could wrap the truck and trailer in B is for Build graphics and it would be a cool display when you go to various events.
You're always going to need a heavy duty dually anyway, might as well go "B is for Build" on it. Cummins Diesel would be a nice change from the regular content. Cheers
I think it would be awesome to do the RX-7 build with rob, I think the way you always want to learn about cars, being at his shop helping it being built would be fantastic
I would absolutely keep it and do what you gotta do to fix it, those trucks will take care of you when you take care of it. Your never going to be let down with it. Good luck!
Apart from the awful trans related problems they have xD
It would make a fancy barstool racer, and with ice tires and a centre mounted trailer hitch above the stool attached to a type of rollcage roof, it would still perform as it should as a summer season roadworthy towing device, unless your already used to snowmobiles and rain and intensive windshear.
@@reecewoodruff3255 yep! My 21 ram 3500 has 15k miles on it and already had a new trans put in at 12k, never hauled anything but tools. Toyota is the way to go.
.m.i7i ere2
BS! The only good thing on a RAM is the Cummins engine, everything else is trash, specially the transmission! 😂
Bro you gotta keep the truck! I'm not even a truck guy, but as someone who also needs to tow project cars around, I know the value of a good truck. I would be willing to bet you'll regret getting rid of it with the engine in the shape its in. Plus that'd be a cool series bringing it back to life like how you did with the raptor. Especially with how ridiculous the truck market is right now lol
Fixing the frame rails is nothing compared to the builds they’ve done in the past either
@@Robdutton91 Fr like these dudes are acting like they’re just lube techs or sum
I vote to keep the truck and rebuild it. You guys can do it a serieswith the truck and finish it in a few episodes pulse more/ different content. Also , I think it will help you guys trying something new and different. It's a win win in my book!
I'm helping a friend rebuild a nearly identical truck right now. It was crashed in the forest and left there for almost 10 years. We lifted everything out and are in the process of getting a new frame. So far it wasn't bad and we are doing this all outside then dragging parts into a barn for storage until the frame arrives.
I vote for fixing the frame on the truck. You're at a point where you need the utility and convenience of it.
Those cut wires look like they were for the trailer brake controller (especially given the screw holes in the dash near by). BTW, you will want a good brake controller for that 20k trailer carrying your babies! Also, diesel trucks don't have vacuum, so both the power steering and brakes run off a hydroboost pump (which is NOT belt driven). Sounds like yours is dead.
There is no hydro boost pump they both run off the belt driven power steering pump which I guess developed a leak in the wreck and lost all fluid
Yup
They look like wires for brake controller and air lines for leveling air bags. They likely removed the air switch, helper bags, and brake controller.
The pump was gear driven on pre CP3 pump engines, it is belt driven on the common rail 3rd gen. Also, the truck has a vacuum pump because engineers insist on running the cruise and HVAC controls with vacuum for some retarded reason.
@@jeremyhanna3852 technically med/heavy duty diesels run their power steering pumps off of the front/back of the air compressor through a gear drive.
Would love to see you do a rebuild on the truck. Hope you get the cars back home safe soon :)
look forward to the next episode! hope the rides get home safe, especially the burnt-acon. I love that thing. Best build ever.
I'd say keep the 3500 and fix it! It's something that not only would be very useful around your shop but they also hold thier value extremely well, especially a 6 speed manual truck. I love the channel!
g56!
PLEASE keep the truck and rebuild it! What a great truck and a real asset to have on hand!
Recently joint. Didn’t know about your cancer until now.
Had cancer in my 30s. Treatment just like you. Best of luck. Keep the faith.
I’m almost 60 now. Life goes on. Hope it will for you, brother.
I love the way you handled the issues with the Dodge. Excited for whatever build you do.
Chris,I hope your treatment and health is going well, love how you think and look for new ideas for future projects,You inspire many people to do their projects too!
This channel doesn’t get the respect it deserves. They are about building cool shit and having fun!
I feel like Face Lifting this truck is the right move, it would just look a million times better
Yep. It needs a new front end anyway. Why not jump on the CAD and create something SEMA worthy!
Would the 06 style front end work on this? Love the way the grill and headlights look on those
The frame can be bent back!!!
You need a frame machine to pull it back!!
Take it to multiple body shops and ask them what the best solution would be.
23rd garage did a frame pull on his channel on a f350 dually
This episode was fun to watch. It really helped to know what the context was for getting the truck.
I always love seeing Diesel stuff on channels like this because its not common, I have a hunch this truck might be very useful in the future.
Awesome plan 😆. "Haven't found a truck guy...I will buy a truck myself". Brilliant. I sincerely LOVE this channel
I'm fairly new to the channel and had no idea you were putting in massive hours to get the Mustang ready for LSFest, while at the same time having chemo treatment for cancer. If I was impressed at your commitment before, now I'm in awe. Wishing you the very best with your treatment.
Your doing great man don’t stress to much. I love the side content in between builds. I think your on the right track. I admit some times were confusing but it seems a lot better now that your in that shop where we can look at all the cars in the background.
I can't believe copart being how big it is and all the money they now make thanks to social media, that they are that unprofessional
They so big they dont have to give a shit
I think it would be cool to fix the truck and build it into the on road off-road towing/ recovery and road side repair beast you should have and travel with! I’m talking flatbed toolbox bed with onboard air and a welder maybe ac/dc power outputs. Lift crane?! The possibility’s are endless with a truck like that.
That’s awesome, congrats on the Cummins
Find another chassis at a wrecking yard, do the facelift for the front and you will have an awesome tow rig. I’m sure you guys have the skills for it.
Six in a row made to tow! You will be glad you got a Cummins.
That frame looks repairable, maybe do a collab with V-tuned or his brothers. Worst care throw a new frame in that track, its not a long project and not super difficult, just heavy
Nearly on opposite sides of the USA. I don't think that would work. Assuming the frame is not too bent past the coil buckets, they can chop and replace the front frame ends without too much issue.
I own a 2005 3500 but non-dually. My vote is you get the front end straightened and fixed and you keep the truck. These trucks are brilliantly purposeful when it comes to hauling and you’ll love owning it even at these diesel prices.
The only other acceptable thing to do imo, is not some thumbnail catchy diesel into a car swap, but instead swapping that power train into an old body style truck the way Deboss garage would do….
But honestly just fix it stock and use it. You won’t regret it
The truck is not too bad to fix; the frame rail can be fixed with the engine in place. Also, the engine is not a 6BT but a couple generations newer. It is an ISB with a common rail injection system. Power steering and brakes likely failed because the cooler was likely damaged and lacks fluid in the hydraulic system. The brakes are hydro boost and use pressure from the power steering pump to provide brake assist.
If you paid less than $20K and that truck only has 144K miles, you’ve done very well.
he said 14
@@1smhx5 yeah. Wasn’t sure if that included taxes and fees. They can be steep with those auction Companies sometimes.
@@jgott1745 true
I feel pretty lucky, just got a 2010 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins with 148K miles for 19K.
@@SunnyV-0 what state? I’m in texas and i got a 2013 ram 3500 Cummins for $20k with 138k miles.
Very good truck! Cummins platform is very easy to work on! Specially for a beginner in the diesel world
Hey Chris! Just wanted to add another vote for keeping the Ram and fixing it. Watch all your vids anyway but would definitely tune in to watch that repair process. Best of luck with your cars. 🍻
Chris, just want to talk about something you mentions. Rob Dahm and yourself are 2 on my favorite people on this platform. That collaboration would be one of the sickest things I’ve ever seen on CZcams
Rebuild the truck! You will love having a reliable transport vehicle.
I say do some Good Maintenance to that Big Red Truck, take us along for the ride and make it road worthy for long Hauling ! Yeah, 👍 cheers 🍻 to the build !
Its incredible that you care about what we the viewers care about, you have a lot of things going on. we'll watch what you put out in any order. Your channel is more about problem solving than it is specific builds from start to finish. Anyways thats what I'm here for, keep doing you, and I'll still watch it. Ps my vote: rebuild the truck- dont swap it in the the mazda.
Always fun to watch an episode and know exactly where your at. Not to be named auction amd hospital. Very good treatment spot. Best of luck.
Bad news boys, the 2005 Ram 3500 MAX towing capacity is between 10,400 and 16,200 lbs (depending on configuration). This is far short of your stated 20,000 lbs trailer weight.
It is an issue with GCWR. Payload should be around 4000lbs on those dually trucks. I have almost the same truck and I can find ~15k tow rating but can't really find an official GCWR number. From a payload standpoint they might be okay with 15% pin weight. Common for older Cummins owners to tow 20k (so they say at least) with their trucks, just not sure on the legality of doing so.
Would love to see some truck rebuild videos!!! Keep the truck, it will be useful in the long run.
Keep it and fix it. Everyone would love to continue to see this rig. Great deal
Yall have rebuilt frames before..
The power steering and hydroboost brakes are both powered by the power steering pump. Make sure it has fluid and the PS cooler didn’t get punctured. If it has fluid the pump is most likely the problem
Hi I'm from Puerto Rico and I love your contents, i hope you getting better with your treatment absolutely keep it and fix it, it is a great truck and a rotary engine from Rob Dahmn wo that would be nice
Sup Rico
I say find a truck with a good frame and a bad motor. I've seen lots of Rams with rusty bodies that still have a good frame. Go that route and have a nice truck for years.
The Cummins 24v is one of the best Diesel engines ever made. I can say this as someone who has owned a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 24v Cummins since new. The truck has just under 250,000 miles on it. Only ever had 3 issues with it. The biggest issue is a very common issue. The wiring harness for the power locks and windows in the back doors failed. There is a fix for that. A relay that controls the fan speed of the climate control. and the last issue as you mentioned is the same failing paint issue. If taken care of the Cummins 24v is known to last a million + miles.
Cant wait to see what you do with it 👍
amazing work on your all projects! just dont overwhelm yourself with too many projects, since you got so many going on right now!
Interesting to see Copart suck in all the same ways on the other side of the Atlantic also.
I hope you fix that 3500... then do an awesome build of it... mind you diesel can make over 1000 horsepower and still get like 20+ mpgs
11th floor... I was there on the 5th for mine . best of luck to you with your treatment!
Hope you go ahead and put a good frame under that truck. It will serve you well. It would be a waste to see it go for scrap or be parted out. If you wanted to mod it you could remove the box and add aluminum fuel tanks, stacks, clearance lights and mud flaps. Changing out the frame would make a great video series. A bit of a departure for BIFB but I think most of your followers would enjoy it.
Surprise build time! I love it 😂
Keep the truck! Fix it and use it for event hauling.
Definitely get your cars home first.
Oh ya.. copart north Portland lol ya always a treat to go there.
I think it would be a cool restoration actually, and also it would be a great thing to have for y’all in the future so stuff like that doesn’t happen again XD but take the content at your own pace! I agree with what you said at the end and can’t wait for the mustang to be finished!
pull the engine, tube frame the whole front end, slap it back together
I don’t know who complained. Life happens and you got sick. Sure I would love to see your builds more often but not at the sake of your health. I think you should keep the truck and make it a side project. Someone will contact you with parts for it I’m sure. Don’t worry about the rest. Take care of yourself first.
Really hope you decide to build the dually that would be awesome!
Stoked on this build.
Nice 👍 awesome work truck
Would it be worth frame swapping? Seems like it’s roughly 2500+ for a frame..
Or buy a truck with a clapped out power train and sell the rest
If its a youtuber like B is for build, i guess. Anyone else, i wouldsay no. I mean, i cannot see a 17 year old truck going for more than 20k, which would be the minimum cost to fix the truck including the purchase price.
Gotta keep and build the truck !
It’s gonna be cool!! And really very useful for your business
Sorry about the issues with your vehicle transportation. Love to see a rebuild of the dually.
You should buy a custom chassis kit that will allow you to tow heavy loads as well as bag it and slam it. It has always been a dream build of mine
I like the idea but legally the GVWR will remain unchanged. Unfortunately, it will actually lower your payload when you make the truck heavier. Given the weights, it puts them in CDL territory so it is not worth the risk. Stock, the rear axle is rated for 10,000lbs and it is common for people to pull a 20k-30k gooseneck trailer stock.
I drive almost the same truck and it is bagged all the way around. The solid front axle on the 4x4 limits how low you can slam the truck. When the air bags are dumped, it sits at the same height in the front as a 2WD Ram of the same year. Notching the frame in front won't help as the axle will just hit the oil pan. On a 2WD ram, you can notch the rear frame to slam the truck but it is not useful if you need it to tow a gooseneck trailer. I helped by friend do this to his truck and it sits low with the bags dumped.
Fix the truck. I think the Cummins plus it’s abilities will hold a larger value to your channel than a swap. 👍🏼
Finally a build I understand. I haven't been into any builds since the Z. The frame is repairable so don't get excited about getting rid of it. If you do feel like you need to frame swap it, you should be able to find a decent frame out there where rust doesn't exist.
I bought the exact truck in silver in 05. I have 247k on it, all stock except for a K&N filter. I bought it to pull a 51 ft stepdeck. I have had ZERO issues and I drive it daily.
it's a nice truck, just keep it as a tow rig, the raptor isn't that good at towing anyways
Definitely repair it, use the original frame to build a new one from scratch (b is for build) and add a flat or service bed, and a 5th wheel, so you can pull whatever you want and also service your cars on the road and events
dude....imagine what you can do to this thing. im hype for some reason. i hope you keep it and modify the hell out of it and make it as badass as possible.
🤔 A couple of future build videos on that truck would stellar. Function over form is my bag.
Awesome video also I think a powerstroke swapped Bentley sounds amazing it would be way more reliable than it would be normally
*Cummins
Should do a 4th gen front end swap! Dope truck tho!
You almost broke Rob Dhan's soul!!!

@@Constabruity I guess it could but I never seen a truck with those words as emblems.
good luck mate hope it goes well

I love 3rd gen rams, idk why, but they can be really good looking
They’re the best looking ram gen that’s for sure. Not too new but not dated either yet even though they’re 15 years old

Good idea on rebuilding the Cummins. It would be a great idea to keep the Dodge around to tow trailers so you don't run into another situation where you need a tow truck and don't have one.
02:27 The company will remain nameless except for the sign in the back ground! 😂😂😂
I would recommend thuren or Carli suspension and front end parts. Also synergy steering links and the Mopar big box for your power steering pump!
My self love the mixed content
Back in "the day" we used to straighten bent frames like that with a frame machine, rosebud torch and a tape measure all the time
Body Blows! You all do a good job so the babies come home!
Build the ultimate shop truck. You have a full drivetrain that works. Get a chassis and then build the ultimate BIFB truck. Put a fancy cabin on it for example. Sleeper cab, place for tools etc.
Just pull the frame straight enough with a pro and add braces. I think you will be surprised on how close it will get. Then put a newer clip (fenders hood ect) on it. It's a GREAT truck for what you need! Then get some semi wheels!
I would keep the truck and swap in a new frame section. You guys do that kind of stuff so well, Oscar could probably finish in a day :)
Hey man I had no clue you had cancer till now, I hope the treatment is going as good as you look and I wish you luck with everything in life
Chris Im praying your treatments are kicking butt! My wife is going through Chemo right now so I know how tuff it can be!With truck Id think about pulling the engine and getting it on a frame machine. You might be able to fix it.With the engine not in there getting to stuff much easier
BUILD IT! Front end conversion with modern interior. Would love to see that build.
Don’t let the haters get you down. If they don’t want to follow you or they don’t like your content they can unsubscribe, you make great content and it’s enjoyable to watch. P.S can you do another body swap Mustang? Just like before but without that!!! Name 😂 have fun getting your cars home it’s just a little test for you.
I would definitely rebuild it and probably also do a facelift as you have to replace most of the front end anyway. Having a vehicle like that available to you in your own garage will pay for itself many times over. Hope the treatment is going well. Where is Kyle? Not seen him around much.
Keep the truck and use it to take your engines to the boat! Really wanting to see the boat again.
