I had the sudden urge to play Exanima again after over a year, and after having a blast with all the updates since last time I played and it immediately made me think “I wonder if Odin has any videos up with the new updates. So glad you’re still playing and uploading these. ❤
In my experience, no characters will die if there's a physician on staff, meaning the leader character can go full tilt. I've learned that after getting redlined many times. I sadly have yet to master the controls which I find very janky at times. I find the reserve matches are a good mix of gold and XP. As are the special matches (valor and valiance) according to the tier of course. Hiring a trainer makes a big noticeable difference in xp gains. This guy on the video has some solid expertise at the melee. Those overhands are not easy to land, but he is precise here. I am getting better after 100s of matches.
It took me awhile to figure out this issue. Pay attention to the tier level that you need to switch manually on the character management menu. Then most gear has a points value. You can only equip a certain number of points per level. So your gear points are used up or your tier slider is on inept still, even though you are aspirant. It was confusing the hell out of me, but I finally figured it out.
I don't understand arena at all. I cant pick up weapons, If I buy one and equip it, I spawn into a fight unarmed. I can't seem to get two fighters into a doubles match. Nothing fucking works for me. What gives?
Could be that you are buying equipment for one rank while choosing fights of a different rank? Your characters will only wear/use gear that is equal to or lesser than the fight's rank. For doubles, you have to have one NPC and then one player character.

I used to hate exanima combat, until i played in training mode and found that i was too aggressive and not defensive enough

i find that using spears are the best 1st is longswords

Yes, you are just exp for the monsters
The A.I has a definite diversity in behavior. Some opponents are more timid when some come full tilt and with unrelenting aggressive behavior.
