Another thing to mention: The holy trio of ss red, blue, and leaf? Yeah, now we got the exponentially more broken Neo champion red, blue and green.

@@maxdekudess3354 SS Leaf has Bad Poison, Def and Sp. Def debuffs, Potion and Sync accel; SS Blue has Def buff, gradual Sp. Def buff and Gauge + Crit buff; SS Red has strong offense on both categories; even with the power creep they are still great (although I rarely use SS Blue as of late).
@@zjzr08 but blue's buffs are extremely slow, you don't get sun in that team and your gauges will be struggling a lot once you run out of move gauge acceleration. You'd much rather run them in separate teams, like leaf with lyra; red with morty; and blue with, well, pretty much anyone, his buffs are versatile even though they're slow
@@maxdekudess3354 I used to put SS Blue in modt of my teams back then but now that NC Rosa is out, I used SS Blue less often. (Other than NC Rosa, I also use Chase)
(I heard NC Blue is also a top tier support, but I wasn't able to pull him when NC Kanto Trio came out)

i started playing during the sg prerelease but dropped it a couple of months after the summer. what brought me back was ssr cynthias theme.
Something I love about this game's music is how much experimentation and changes to themes it has. Since this is a mobile game, there is no way any remix here would become the definitive version of the track which allows the composer to create incredibly unique versions of tracks with no real risk.
The music analysis part is really great. Music is the main highlight of the game for me and it's something's that's missing in the pokemas content creator scene. I think people would like more of that.

That's because the Mainline Games are a different Universe where Red is a thing while Ash takes Red's Role in the Anime.
Pokémon Masters takes place in *a* Version of the Games Universe since Red exists there and no one knows who Ash is. (I doubt it actually takes places in the Mainline Games Universe although it would be cool) i myself played that Story and Ash is also from an other Universe that is not from the Anime but a Version from the Anime's Universe since he was training for the Masters 8 before appearing on Pasio

I'm pretty sure SS Red came in the 0.5 year anniversary, while SS Blue and SS Leaf came on the 1st anniveersary.
And to clarify, Shota Kageyama only compossed Battle Sync Paits! in this game, while everything else in this game is composed by Haruki Yamada. Most people tend to miscredit since the latter isn't as well known, and the only time you can check the credits is during the Battle Beat Twitter event 2 years ago, and it is confirmed that Haruki Yamada composed over 95% of the battle tracks.
I played Masters ever since day 1, and there are a lot aspects I loved about this game. The lore of this game has been 80% hits (with some mishaps in between) and you can see how different regions' trainers interacted with others (with the latest Grusha event being one of the best showcase of character usages), so it's not always fanservice. Some of them are a clever callback or neat references from different games or media. Some of the character models look so damn good (better than BDSP's character models lmao). Character team compositions are fun because it does not feel like your usual pokemon double battle, as you need strategies and knowledge to use these specific units to win.
The music? Boy, for some reason not many people talk about them, and yes some of the themes are not that good compared to the original ones (many of the team grunt themes and the original Steven theme are some of the worse ones), but you can't deny some of them blew the original out of the park, like ALL Kalos Champion Stadium Elite 4 themes. Some of the music do have some character growth in them, like Guzma, Lusamine and Silver. Or some insane foreshadowing like Decisive Cynthia theme before PLA came out lmao
But yeah, the game has been really bad with the gem distributions and never really have a proper balancing with its roaster, making your og units almost useless. The 4th anniversary is kinda so-so aside from me getting Paulo (a prototype Kieran but has a genuine reason to get stronger) and Tina. Co-op mode? It sucks because it doesn't require you to be in-sync with others.

I've been playing Masters since launch all the way up to this day and there's so much about this game that just makes me happy. The music is top tier, all the interactions between characters across the 9 generations is like a dream come true and if you got a powerful team, the battles can be so much fun to play through. There are definitely issues that need to be addressed like the gacha system and some of the balancing for past units that just seem bad, especially with new events coming out lately that cater more towards whales and people with insane luck who have all the top tier units. However the devs are willing to listen which is great and it's what has made this game get better every year, at least in my opinion.
I'm happy to see videos like this because i do think Masters deserves more positive attention and love from the pokemon community

This was a great presentation video for Masters, explaining the good like the voice acting, the trainer's interactions, the lore and the unique gameplay and mechanics and also the bad like the gacha and pity system, and the rerun time which is pretty absurd. Overall I like this game, been playing for more than 3 years by now, and I hope DeNA will be able to make it always better.

SalamenceEX(?)'s video was from a Masters player so it's not a mainline player's view of it and he actually did specify issues within expectations in Masters...other than that this video is a great way to show how Masters can be played in general and also it's strengths; frankly the UI and utilization of underutilized mechanics in the mainline (like debuffs) are also great improvements too.
This is basically my most wanted game I want to play when I bought a new smartphone. My old one was 32 bit and didn't support that game, so I can't wait to try this one. I don't know if I'm gonna stay playing for a long time, but considering how addicted I was to Fire Emblem Heroes (without spending real money of course) I'm very optimistic to say the least. And I know this game have problems, so I might watch to videos like this to fully understand what I'm diving to.

It has been better a lot of ways since the start although I'd recommend not going head first to tempting limited time hard content that can either make you think the game is unbalanced and/or urging enough to buy gems.
As a long time player, this is what I feel about the game as a F2P:
As a newbie:
So cool, so fun! So many things to do. And I'm so happy to get any new Sync Pairs. Like getting my first 5* Sync Pair - Blue and Pidgeot. Then I got Sygna Suit Red and Charizard and continued playing the game!
As an almost a year old player:
Not that lucky in terms of getting new Sync Pairs but it is really fulfilling to beat an Extreme Battle without using the "Key" New Sync Pair/s! Villain Arcs are the best!
As a 2 year-old player: I almost got all Free to Play 5* Sync Pairs to 5/5. Felt boring and repetitive to some areas like Legendary Gauntlet and Trainer Lodge. Ultimate Battles are "ultimately" difficult but have underwhelming rewards. They are limiting F2P rewards and I honestly stopped playing the game around November 2023, then decided to play again once I knew that Nate and Rosa will be the new Neo Champions to be featured in December (I love Unova, I'm very bias in terms of Gen 5), and got lucky to be able to get them both.
Thats it. But there is one thing that never changed in this game, the quality of the stories they gave for our beloved characters in the franchise. At the moment, I'm afraid because the story slowly progresses into coming of Arceus which makes me think that the game is ending. XD

It has insane depth although at times it demands you to have some specific parameters applied during battles -- but it has stuff like abilities that ups damage when you crit hit, prevent crit damage, ups damage when super effective, additional damage when enemy's debuffed, or has a status condition, or setting Terrain-like moves for types with no Terrain/weather yet in the mainline called Zones, or Physical/Special boosters that are one-time boost that stacks with your stats boosts -- it's a very interesting battle game IMO.

Nice to see an objevtice and thourough analysis of Masters Ex. I wish more people would appreciate the game thus allowing the developer to add more contents that is more engaging and perhaps more coop, like what you suggested a legendary boss/world boss coop raid!
Two more remixes that deserve a shout-out are Emma's battle theme (they took one of the saddest themes from the games and turned it into an upbeat melody that reflects Emma's character growth) and "Jigglypunk" (a grear punk cover of the iconic Jigglypuff song).
Honestly I am in the same boat as you when it comes to the main games, I stopped and didn`t get Sword and Shield BECAUSE it straight up cut the pokedex in half along with other stuff too.

I really love the gameplay and music, I remembered playing like crazy back then; but I eventually fell off because keeping up with the new characters are too tiring for me , and the gatacha system got more difficult to get the character needed for certain events so i gave up
loved the video but goddamn brother level that audio sometimes it was impossible to hear what you say with the music/sound effects

The last good Co-op event was the Rocket one last year, which was actually challenging and had tasks for clearing with certain theme skills

I used to be a whale in Masters but after the anniversary last year (2023) I kind of stopped caring and playing. I would chime in now and then and roll on daily pulls if it was a cool unit I liked. But it just got to be boring for me. I think my biggest problem is the gameplay. Imo it is repetitive and some modes felt like a chore (Villa, Champion Stadium etc.) and after the story wrapped up it seemed like a money pit of just pulling for new units, just because they were new.
That said I will probably come back and pull for a new Archie Alt/Chuck/Drayden/Rowan/Byron if they ever get added to the game.
But it’s kind of the same units getting alts over and over again.

Yeah the only downside is you have to earn 30k plus gems to guarantee one limited unit and i usually skip some unit because i rather spend my gem's on the limited one's despite that i really enjoy this game and it's not that time consuming.

I think the points youre making in the "bad points" are definitely valid, I would wish a stronger emphasis that this is the entire Gacha game genre, though, with Genshin Impact as one of its prominent representatives having the exactly same problems, I've only ever come to embrace Masters after I was used to this Gacha genre from previous games like Genshin and Tower of Fantasy, and compared to those, I feel like I'm getting so many more pinatas to crack and so many more units to build with specific niches.

This game would have been more favorable if all the in-game appeared in the main series anime & meet Ash.
I picked it up from day 1 but quit when they added the stamina system. From what you described it sounds like maybe I was being too unfair on it. I'll give it a 2nd try if my account still exists.
The answer to anyone seeing this is YES! Please give this game a shot, especially if you are a huge pokemon fan. It's full to the brim with fanservice, fun story, crossover content and more. And it's actually very F2P friendly!! Oh and the battle mechanics are fun too imo! Def my fave pokemon game rn
The only game that remembers Kris exists, so yeah its good also it has really good storys.
The only thing i don't really like about masters is that some units are behind a paywall which doesn't happen in fire emblem heroes although to be fair the are some units in there that you need the fe pass to get them guaranteed but the point is that even if you don't spend real money you still have chance to get them even if its very slim but in masters you have to pay to get certain units (not all of them) but its kinda annoying
what units are locked behind a paywall in Masters? i know FEH locks Resplendants as well as the entire Pity system for most banners behind the pass
@@camil3545 The only unit that's legit paid is Red & Venasaur in the Mix Banner which frankly is not your real target in that banner IMO (it's really the formerly limited time units).
All but Red & Venasaur can be "pitied" with 36.6K regular gems which usually can be earned in a month and a half IMO.

Pokemon masters infuriates me how more true it is then the consoles to the pokemon franchise, its why I love it. And the combat is just better
the only thing i hate is the rate of characters....constantly im getiing like 10-15 5 stars on 20 000 quarts and not getting the one rat up in the banner
I really liked this game in the beginning, but now it just grew stale. Like there is almost no fun things to do. I only did the villain arcs and those were kinda fun (some better then..... Others).
They also release limited units too fast after each other and of course you don't need everything but it would be nice if they threw a large chunk in a special banner that never leaves.

25:48 I'mma be honest, the gacha system for Pokemon Masters EX is horrible.
As is mentioned in the vid, the currency shortage is a major issue but the rates and pity point system are an even bigger issue.
The banners like boasting having 10%/12% chance for a 5 star character but only ONE PERCENT of that belongs to the main rate-up character, while the rest of it is given to a bunch of random characters that one might/might not want.
Which most of the time forces you to go all the way to max out on pity point to get the rate-up character (That would be me, I'm trying to get Sygna Suit Lusamine so hard right now cuz Necrozma).
On top of that, the pity points you gain for a banner are S E P E R A T E D between its Paid and Free versions (I've never spent money on the game but even that seems quite ludicrous).
This is coming from someone who just pulls the characters they like, I don't know how much worse this might be for others who pull for meta.
I do think many fans do criticize the gacha but frankly I don't have that big of a problem as I either:
A.) Wait for the many Triple Poke Fair banners to get 3 new limited units for a total 4.5% rate
B.) Save up Gems by buying the EX Boost (the one with the Sync Orbs) and use them for PokeFair Selects
C.) Just maybe pull like 3-5 times in a Master Fair then just ignore it if I didn't get one; Master Fairs since like a year ago now are guaranteed to rerun unlike in the past where you aren't guaranteed they will
Funny story is that I just got Gloria for free for the first time in 4.5 anniversary free ticket even when she's like been in the game for how many years now.

Its an easy gatcha game, with a lot of fan favorites, my only problem with it was that it was getting too repetitive, the visuals and music are really nice, but there just wasnt much to do for me daily so i dropped it, it was a nice experience tho.

It was interesting to hear a casual player's critique of the game! I've been playing since day 1 (with a bit of a break around the Unova VA) and it was nice to see a perspective different to mine.
Some of the problems you mentioned, like the overabundance of new Sync Pairs in a given month, have been toned down recently (only 4-5 new ones in Dec '23-Feb '24). you obv know that now, just something that improved in the time since you first wrote the script.
There's definitely some issues, lack of F2P gems most notably, but even then, it's still pretty decent for mobile game standards with a guaranteed Scout Points pull in ~1.5 months.
The SS!Kanto trio segment was kinda funny lol, they're still fine units, but they are definitely outperformed (even outperformed by themselves with the NC!Kanto trio lmao). Glad to hear you bring up the music too, we get a new arrangement monthly, it's always nice to hear new takes on classic themes and the "Battle! (Neo Champion)"/"Decisive Battle!" remixes are incredible (Decisive Battle! Steven >>>)
I will contest you on the Sprint/Field pairs tho, they're definitely worth a place in this game. Accelerating Sync a whole turn on their first Sync allows for great ramping with the Sprint Pairs like Paulo and EX Role SSA!Cynthia. Field pairs, while typically designed as a secondary DPS, are great too, being able to set a 50% damage-boosting Field effect that lasts 2 Sync cycles is very powerful.
All in all, I really enjoy this game, it's great fan service for series veterans with references and character interactions between characters from different games.

I kinda dislike how only he gets the tao trio. I was expecting Reshiram to be somehow paired with Hilda and Zekrom with Hilbert. But maybe someday, Hilda and Hilbert gets a new unit, maybe as Neochampions.
