  • IN THIS VIEDO: I talk through many of the issues faced by triple jumpers and their coaches. I hope that understanding these will help you improve.
    Specifically we take a look at arm action and I provide research on variations and suggest what may be the best option.
    We also consider phase ratio and how this can affect distance jumped and the power and strength qualities of the jumper.
    Fundamental is the ability to utilise speed and carry this through the phases. We consider how this is influenced by phase ratio.
    I present some sports science biomechanics which indicates that a hop dominant jump ratio may be the best - but critique this against real world coaching.
    Most of the longest triple jumps for males have been set with a jump dominant model.
    Please pause on the slides and graphics as they present further information which will help you better understand the event - for example, on lowering of the centre of mass and phase velocity.
    If you have any specific questions then do leave them in the section below.

    Thanks for the info. I just want to give you a shoutout for sharing your research. Your channel is truly is a gem and very very underrated.

      Leon, Thanks for that. I guess it's a little niche and a bit too serious for many. The Sprint Project for example is a good channel which manages to be more mainstream and put across pretty good information. Maybe I should try a video such as How to jump further than Christian Taylor or something - but it's not quite my style!

    Thanks for the video. What is the best way for a male triple jumper to transition to the double arm at the takeoff while maintaining the sprint speed on the runway?

    • @Johnshepherdtrackcoach
      @Johnshepherdtrackcoach  Před 10 měsíci

      You need to take the arms back very quickly on the last step. Don’t take them too far back rather rifle them back keeping them bent at the elbow.
      Try to keep the movement is synch with your legs ie don’t try to overpower the arms. Hope this helps. Watch how Christian Taylor does it.

    What do u think about double(hop) single(step) double(jump) ?

      Gonna lead to a weak step try single double double instead

      I think that is what we will try with the female jumper initially in my training group. The double arm movement into the jump made a difference. There are a couple more comps left this year so we will see how much of a difference it can make.
      I'd advise this initially more for females ... I think that a double arm step and jump phase for males is the optimised combination ... however, again I want to try it with the woman in the training group. She is able to really keep moving through" the phases and I think she could adapt well to single-double-double. Hope this helps
