    Nice work! For sewing knit fabrics, I recommend buying a ballpoint needle. So affordable and will make sewing stretch fabric an absolute dream, as it won't jam and pull the fabric into your machine, and instead, the ballpoint will gently move between fibres. A twin needle is another great lil addition to your sewing kit, as it gives stretch items, such as tshirts, a professional looking and slightly stretchy hem, without the need for a coverstitch machine, which is used in professional sewing workrooms. Two items that I think make sewing and altering your clothes easier in future, that I reach for constantly now!

      @@beepwrld sometimes the tension on my machine slips or something because the stitches underneath/the back get loopy from the top thread.

    • @helenm1085
      @helenm1085 Před 24 dny +12

      @@sarahkinsey5434this used to happen to me and then a friend suggested that I could be pulling my fabric out wrong. Like once you finish sewing, you need to pull the fabric out from under the foot by pulling it away from you (so in the same direction you were sewing), otherwise the next thing you sew may be screwed up. If you forget, just pull a bit of extra thread back before you start.
      Since I changed my habits, I no longer get weird tension or tangles under the fabric.
      Idk if this will solve your problem but it's such an obscure thing that no one teaches you!!

I just want you to know that all of those struggles that you had are completely normal for even the most experienced sewist. The more you persevere through the mistakes, the more you'll learn and the less you'll make them over time. I have a machine that hates knit fabric (skort) as well, but I now use a walking foot and it's much less of a headache. My favorite project was the skirt because of the contrast, yet it all works together. It's both really "wild" and somehow also not; it's really, really well balanced; if you pair it with more "neutral" colors on top it plays it down and if you pair it with bright colors, or prints, it plays it up; I love getting inspiration for these sort of super-versatile pieces that can weave in and out of a bunch of different styles/substyles! Also going with a curved line was both daring (in terms of the technical aspect) yet it totally paid off. Sorry not sorry I might one day copy your homework on this one.

    You just going *in* with the tracing directly on your fabric gave me so much anxiety but all the projects are so cute so I'll mind my business 😅❤

    So proud and inspired. I had to laugh (with empathy) at your troubles with your sewing machine. I learned how to sew on a haunted Brother machine, that was a hand me down, in the 60’s; it would choose the projects it wanted me to successfully complete.❤

      LOL gotta start referring to this sewing machine as haunted - it’s also a hand me down. I’m glad you enjoyed the antics regardless!

    21:36 I think you could maybe wear the ruffle top backwards as well perhaps? Have the solid orange panel as the front? Great jobs on all these ❤

    My sewing projects look just like yours! Struggles with zigzacks on specific fabrics. Cutting wrongliy on right/wrong side, lots of trial and error with the fitting: Honestly: in the end we LEARN so much from every Project!❤

    If you have trueble with strechy fabric, try other kind of needles and diferent settings on your machine. There's a ball point needle that i use and i never had any other issues with fabrics like tshirt material or spandex.

    As soon as I saw that stretchy fabric, I knew the heartbreak you were in for 😢 I have tried WAY too many times to make stretchy material work because apparently I don't learn from my mistakes! I'm sure someone with more experience can teach us the right way to do this 😂

      The secret to sewing with knits is using machine needles made for stretch fabrics- not “universal” needles. Amazon has the hook up!

    The cutting backwards and the sewing on the wrong side had me laughing out loud because Ï have done it more times I care to admit!

    You need a different needle for stretchy fabrics. Either a stretch needle, ball point jersey needle, or just the thinnest needle you have.
