He is a travelling musician. She is his girl back home in Tn. He wants her to follow him, she wants him to come home and settle down with her.
He is at least seeking a music career, trying to convince her how great each place is that he's trying to make a name for himself in. He seems to be staying in each place for a while.
You are correct, sir.
When David or Kenny loggins logs in to their computer I wonder if they can actually use their last name "Loggins".đ„ïžđ
Exactly! She just wants the old him back. Simple life in TN not the fame and fortune.
I never got the impression he is a travelling musician. Heâs a young man wanting to broaden his world and experience new things.
Favorite line, âweâll move up into the mountains so far that we cant be found- and throw - ilove you echoes- down the canyon - and then lie awake at night til they come back aroundâ pure poetry!
She keeps telling him to come home to Tennesee. He keeps moving around and around to a new city where he thinks he will find fame and fortune maybe. He's singing both parts. Each city he talks about HE is in, and want HER to come live there with him. She keeps telling him to come home, and that he's good enough and life can be good enough together there in Tennessee. She didn't want any kinda fast paced city life. Just good old fashion home town living and love.
He obviously found some fame and fortune or he wouldn't have a house in LA that looks out over the ocean.
Awesome explanation! I thought I was watching a version of the 'ol" Who's On First" routine:)
@@nealm6764 maybe, maybe not. In each place he goes it sounds kinda like he's couch surfing, so he could just be hanging with a friend at their house while he's once again unemployed and chasing his dreams. That's ironic because his biggest dream is obviously to be with her forever, but his wanderlust is keeping them apart. She will gladly be with him if he would just come home and put down some roots with her so they can be together forever
Actually, she's singing the chorus. He's a drifter, moving from place to place and loving each one (or trying to convince her it's great), but she thinks she knows him best and he will always be the boy from Tennessee. Also @nealm6764, he could be just renting a room with 20 people living there - that was a big thing for many people flocking to L.A. back then, including Linda Ronstadt, and it wasn't expensive. But he is at least seeking a singing career.
@@TonyM1961 Yes. The magic in art is each person can interpret it (within reason and the bounds of the work).
I kind of think that he was starting his career in the beginning in Boston, and the scope of means and success was very limited (crashing at friends lace, playing in a cafe - her maybe selling art on the sidewalk if she comes...)
Moves on to some success - getting a house up in the mountains outside Denver (again not cheap).
Then pretty good success as I doubt he is inviting her to crash at friends house without mentioning the circumstances.
Probably renting/leasing a pretty nice house.
Either way a really well written song.
Tori Amos has a live version of it from 2001 with just her on the piano that is great as well.
He is a drifter at heart and enjoys seeing all of the different things he finds in his travels, but he's lonely without her. She's a "home body" that loves it where they grew up in Tennessee and refuses to leave. Basically she's saying "I love you and want to be with you, but I'm not going to be moving all over the place. I want and need roots and to settle down, so just come back home so we can be together"
Nothing beats the sounds of the 70's music.....true artists, poets, and musicians. They didnt do it for the fame or the money, its just something from deep inside, so talented. I guess in todays labelist society you would call this "yacht rock" for some stupid reason, when its just pure 70's easy listening. An era that will never be surpassed in quality and sound. Days are countin down you two....as a parent myself, im so very excited for you both because it truly is the most gratifying thing ive have ever done in my life. And im sure it will be for you guys also. ââ€đ from fla usa......hi neighbors
Sigh. Why can't people just enjoy the music instead of turning it into some "Muh generation's music is great, and everyone else's sucks!" type of competition.
It is also pretty laughable to say musicians in 70's didn't do it for fame or money. They invented corporate rock.
@@nealm6764 well arent you just a bundle of joy
@@burnout_2017 Says the guy making himself feel better by taking a crap on other people's music, instead of just enjoying the music he likes.
@@nealm6764 well arent you just a sensetive little snowflake.......nowhere in my comment did i take dump on your crappy ass music. Grow the eff up
Disagree...love the 70s music...but every era, including now, has great songs and songwriters. Just look for them. They are there.
This is Kenny's cousin, you can hear it in his voice. This is a personal favorite, so sweet and how love can take you in different directions, but in the end, if it's meant to be, you will be together. Thanks Brad and Lex
and he is actually from Tennessee.
When David or Kenny loggins logs in to their computer I wonder if they can actually use their last name "Loggins".đ„ïžđ
Blue Sky, Yes he is, just like Kenny. Cheers
I Stand, Lol, took me a minute, but I get it!
So Kenny Loggins is related to Dave Loggins, but he sounds like Lindsey Buckingham, my mind is blown
This was his only pop chart hit, but he was a highly successful writer for many great country artists and is in the Country Songwriters Hall Of Fame. He also wrote Pieces of April for Three Dog Night, a truly beautiful song that you both will enjoy. And it was also my prom song (yeah I'm old! đ)
"Pieces of April" was a very good song, one of their best, I think.
I didn't know he wrote Pieces Of April. That's one of their best, if not THE best songs. We could see in Please Come To Boston that he is incredibly talented. I always wondered why he didn't have more hits because he obviously "has what it takes"
"There ain't no gold and there ain't nobody like me" LOVE that line. Most persuasive argument ever.
This is one of my most favorite songs ever from my childhood. It still gives me such a good feeling when I hear it. đ
The man has written 20+ #1 songs. He also wrote the intro that CBS uses for The Masters.
Amazing how the words come right back to you after so many years . . . beautiful song.
Iâve been to all the places in this song, and the place with the best quality of life, in my opinion, is Tennessee!
Me too! Have also been to all these places! I now live in Tennessee. We love a beautiful, quiet life here. Best decision ever!
I have lived in Denver (twice), Boston and spent time in LA but I have lived in Tennessee since 1995. This is an all time fave and a karaoke staple for me. lol
Such a beautiful, sad song. The way I read it, they knew each other in Tennessee. He is a dreamer and wanderer and travels from one city to the next. He tries to get her to join him, but she knows he will never settle in one place permanently. However, she loves him and begs him to come back home to her in Tennessee.
This was my mine and my husbandâs first dance song. It was also one of the songs I sang to him the morning he passed away. Beautiful song.
It's all right there in the lyric. This is a literal song....literally. He's a rambling boy she loves who she wants to come home. He was in all of the places mentioned. Come ON!!!
I grew up in a military family and traveled throughout the U.S., and lived in Europe for over six years. I learned to ski in Switzerland, been up the Eiffel Tower many times, visited American national parks from Maine through California. I loved this life. We moved every few years to a new place.
I grew up, following my father's footsteps, and served twenty-eight years in the Army. I was stationed at several different bases, and deployed throughout Africa and the Middle East, as well as parts of Europe and Asia. I loved this life.
I met my wife after I returned from the First Gulf War. Shortly after getting married, I left for Somalia. My wife remained in Tennessee for the majority of our marriage, while I bounced around the world. I wanted different military assignments, and had offers - the Pentagon, McDill Air Force Base Florida, Thailand ...
She always said "no." And like the lady in this song, she always told me that when I was done globetrotting that she'd be waiting for me - in Tennessee ... where we've lived the last fifteen years since I retired.
One of my favorite ballads of all-time, beautiful!
Near the end of a life, how many cities and homes do we conjure when we hear such a beautiful love song? Priceless.
Another childhood song that was all over the radio. It's one thing hearing them and another having them as the soundtrack to your youth.
She, was still in Tennessee.. He moved to Boston, Denver, and LA, and wanted her there with him. She said no each time, and basically told him to come back home to her, in Tennessee...
She's so cute. Man..this song tears me up every time. Classic
This is my song with my last of 3 brothers still alive.
1 drowned.
1 died in a car crash with our mother.
Mom loved this tune.
The last day I spent with the 1 living, before we had a now 10 year rift, was playing this on the outdoor patio of a local bar, daytime drinking and spilling quarters into the machine as we reminisced.
Like this song, life if beautiful/beautifully sad.
Brad & Lex, she's at home in Tennessee where he's from. He went to Boston, Denver and L.A., and in each city he asked her to come to him. She said no each time. She said come home, she's there and she loves him.
Brad: What is going on? Lyrics of the song: Iâm literally singing exactly what is going on.
Ha! I'm just amazed how they are unable to follow the simplest songs/stories.
He's chasing fame and finally finds it in LA but wants her to live with him forever.
She just wanted to live with him, the simple man, the simple life and love forever in TN.
Great emotional song. It's weird which songs radio chooses to still play. Unfortunately, this has definitely been forgotten.
Sometimes love just ain't enough.
One of my favorite songs ever.
Sweet song, sweet reaction, sweet couple +1...
See now that's easy to listen to after a day of custom building homes sitting by the fire place listening to him and of course a little teddy pendergrass never hurts đ
Such a beautiful song...a favorite from my teenage years. Haven't heard this in at least 20 years...thanks for the reminder
I been waiting for someone to react to this song...One of the all time best songs ever.
Beautiful song about choices we make. The vocals still give me chills after these many years. Thanks for doing this. It is like a folk ballad.
She never left Tennessee. He kept moving around everywhere and asked her to move to him. She always old him to come home and be with her.
Brad, "what is going on?" LOL. He was in Boston,. She didn't want to Denver, she didn't wan to move there. , he then went to los angeles, she didn't want to move there either. He's from Tennessee. It's literally all in the lyrics.
Just posted the same thing before I saw your commentâŠlol
We're doomed as a species if people are confused by this song đą
@@stevenkovacs2766 LOL
Very unusual but beautiful love song. I've always thought it was great.
I absolutely love this song and I haven't heard it in a long long time.
Others have already mentioned what the song is about, so I won't add anything else. It's just a good song with a great vibe! Thanks for the memories!
He was off chasing a dream. She stayed home & created what he was looking for: a home, a place to belong. A fine example of the old phrase/saying, "Can't see the forest for the trees".
They are both from Tennessee, he left and wanted her to follow him to the different places he has wandered to, she is saying come home to me!
Love this song, thanks for doing this.
I got to see Dave Loggins sing this song in a small venue in my town around 1978, in a show that included Jose Feliciano. Great memory. I already had the album, which has a lot of terrific songs not many people have heard. I'm glad it gave you feels, even if you didn't follow it. I relate to it, having traveled for business most of my married life and my wife just wanting me to come home.
You guys almost had it though.
We assume the two were like high school sweethearts. He decided to leave home (Tennessee) to travel, see the world outside their small town vp and maybe make it big. She in the other hand remains home. As he settles in each of the places he writes home hoping sheâd decide to join him. She declines each time but tells him she still loves him for who is and as he is and wishes heâd come home.
Itâs truly an awesome lyric. Babyfaceâs cover with Brandy in the background is amazing. Does the song just.
The three verses of the song are each a plea from the narrator to a woman whom he hopes will join him in, respectively, Boston, Denver, and Los Angeles, with each verse concluding: "She said, 'No - boy would you come home to me'"; the woman's sentiment is elaborated on in the chorus which concludes with the line: "I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee".
Dave Loggins, born and raised in Tennessee, was inspired to write "Please Come to Boston" by a 1972 tour with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band which included stops in Boston, Denver and Los Angeles,[5] cities which were new to Loggins. He stated:
The story is almost true, except there wasn't anyone waiting {here} so I made her up. In effect, making the longing for someone stronger. It was a recap to my first trip to each of those cities and out of innocence. That was how I saw each one. The fact of having no one to come home to made the chorus easy to write. Some 40 years later, I still vividly remember that night, and it was as if someone else was writing the song.[6]
He's a traveling musician. She's his childhood sweetheart.
She's back in Tennessee. He's traveling to Boston, Denver and LA and is wanting him to come home to her.
They used to play this song on Saturdays at my old job and here i was 8 am in the morning crying on aisle 2
No, no, no . . . they were both from Tennessee. He went off to play his guitar and see the world. She loved her home in Tennessee, and wanted him to just come home and settle down! He said, please come to Boston, she said no. He said, please come to Denver, she said no. He said please come to LA, and she said, NO!!! Just come HOME! And I sincerely hope he did.
come on guys, you had the lyrics RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. How could you not understand what's going on in this song? He rambles around trying to get her to come to him, she lives and stays in Tennessee telling him to come back home.
Beautiful song. Not THAT complicated. The young man likes to travel and look for adventure. He wants his woman to travel with him and be a part of the new life. But she is more sensible than the man. She loves him and wants him to travel back to Tennessee. There she wants him to SETTLE DOWN WITH HER. Indeed, she loves him as no other. She is his number one fan.
One of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks for the reaction.
You sort of got it. He's a musician and he's traveling (ramblin'). Each town he visits he wants her to move there with him. They were both in Tennessee before, that's where she is and wants to stay.
No guys no , she never moved she still lived in Tennessee. He was the one traveling to all those places. Itâs so simple really!
Dave is from Mountain City, TN. "This drifters world goes round and round, and I doubt that it's ever going to stop".
Beautiful song. Great story.
I heard this on my playlist on my way home...and the tears... đą
Yes, thank you for this one. I nearly forgot about it such a beautiful heart, wrenching song of the life of a musician and the woman that loves him.â€â€â€
This song is an absolute gem that outshines even the purest diamond. One of the greatest songs ever recorded â€â€â€â€
They are both from Tennessee. He left and is trying to get her to relocate to all the places he's moved to. But she just wants him to come back to Tennessee and be with her.
The man from Tn is the man she fell in love with before he went on tour, the man from all the other places is the 'ramblin man'. He ended up in LA as a result, but she is in love with the man from Tn.
Beautiful! Thanks for reminding me of this song.
He's a ramblin' man going all these different places, she is back home in Tennessee. He sends her three messages, one from Boston when he is just starting out, staying with friends, and hopes to be getting work as a musician, the second after he has kind of established himself and is staying in Denver, the third when he has really made it and has his own house on the ocean in LA. Her reply is always the same, naw, come back to Tennessee. Please do Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps czcams.com/video/oIIxlgcuQRU/video.html&ab_channel=YeahYeahYeahsVEVO
She never left Tennessee. They are both from Tennessee. He goes to Boston, to Denver, and to L.A.
Incredibly beautiful song. Poetic lyrics with crisp fingerpicking on the guitar!
There are a handful of songs that take your mind back to the 70âs and this is one of the most beautiful of those songs. Thank you for your reaction.
Beautiful song.
Iâm 58 and this Loggins song was a radio hit when I was a kid. You guys are really digging deep. đŹ đ
You two make something so simple, so complicated.
I always loved this song
Words and music, no auto-tune...damn..I still miss old tunesâïžâ€
From the day this song was released, it's remained one of my top 100 all-time favorites. Thanks for dragging it out of the dust bin. Good memories.
Wow. This brings back memories.
AgainâŠ.Lexi, your fist thoughts were correct.
He has traveled to those places(away from her being in Tennessee)âŠ.and, at every stop heâs asked her to come to that current place heâs at and tries to share with her a piece of what he thinks is cool about the areaâŠ..but, after each destination he stops, she is not impressedâŠand just wants that man from Tennessee she fell in love with before his travels.
Nice reaction you both. Keep um comingâ
Much AlohađŒđ€đŸ
What this song is really about is the life of a musician. He really loves the woman from Tennessee but his passion for fame and fortune overrides his heart and he chooses to keep moving, rambling on. A lot of songs have been written about lost loves, sacrifice and loneliness to chase a dream. This song is one of the most beautiful but at the same time heartbreaking melody of all time.
He was the rambling man. She was home in Tennessee. She never left.
I have always thought Dave had a better voice than Kenny. Good song from my kid days.
The song isn't that deep. He is a musician traveling and playing, she is a Tennessee
home girl.
She is essentially telling him: "I love you, but if you want me, you have to come home."
Good grief... she never left Tennessee. He bounced around different towns, but she kept asking him to come back home.
I know who's on first..but, who's on secondđ€Ł
@@allenlocke1935 Third base!
Lex has it right!! He was traveling to different places. She is still in Tennessee where they met and grew up.
He was a struggling musician from TN moved to Boston Then moves to Denver where he finds fame then ends up in LA each place he asks his high school sweetheart to come live She tells him no she just want to stay in what ever small town in TN If you think on it if he's fames by the end he could just move back there to live đ
I think he traveled because he was a singer working different gigs. She didn't want to do that and kept telling him to come home.
Always one of my favorites! Tnx!!!
There a couple from TN . đ đ đ hes traveling , and living in all those cities as a musician , hes saying / singing to her " please come to " wherever hes at and she doesnt want to , she wants her regular guy back in TN . đ đ đ đâđ„
They're together. He's a traveling musician. He misses her, wants her to come along... she just says no. Won't you come home to me.
When David or Kenny loggins logs in to their computer I wonder if they can actually use their last name "Loggins".đ„ïžđ
What a good song. I always thought about that Elvis Presley and Graceland mansion were in Tennesee. Weren't they?
She didn't move anywhere; she stayed in Tennessee, where they had been young lovers. He moved on to Boston, then Denver, then L.A., and tried to get her to join him in each of those, but all she wanted was for him to stop wandering and come home.
Number one fan of the man from Tennessee [Elvis] that's what was always out there.
David Allen Coe does an amazing cover of this song.
Perfect sleepy song on a this rainy day in California. Hi guys đ
That was a great summer for music.....all the "Rock" songs (Boat, Baby, Heaven) - and then throw in this gem!
They grew up in Tennessee and fell in love when they were young. He left Tennessee to make his âfortuneâ. He went Boston first and called and she wouldnât come. He moved on to Denver, then L.A. but she wanted him back in Tennessee. Only thing this story is missing is a happy ending.
He was in Boston, then Denver, then L.A. She was always back in Tennessee.
She was always in Tennessee. He was the one that was in Boston, Denver, and LA.
Oh! Ah, I LOVE it too, Lex. This is a pretty song with lots of memories for this old Southern Boy. Thanks a lot guys for this little golden reminder love song from my past. Watchin and lovin ya. Go with God. Peace.
He went from Boston, to Denver and finally to LA, she keeps telling him come back home to Tennessee
