  • This lovely modern ballad was written by Marta Keen. She describes the intentions behind this hauntingly beautiful work: “Finding your true calling in life; knowing that those who love you trust that you will return… I wrote this song for a loved one who was embarking upon a new phase of life's journey, to express the soul's yearning to grow and change.”
This arrangement was made by Jay Althouse and first published in 2003. A great favourite with choirs it has been sung and recorded many times.
    In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red.
When the summer’s ceased its gleaming,
When the corn is past its prime.
    When adventure’s lost its meaning,
I’ll be homeward bound in time.
Bind me not to the pasture:
Chain me not to the plough.
Set me free to find my calling
And I’ll return to you somehow.
If you find it's me you're missing,
    If you’re hoping I'll return.
To your thoughts I’ll soon be listening
In the road, I'll stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end,
And the path I’ll be retracing
    When I’m homeward bound again.
Bind me not to the pasture:
Chain me not to the plough.
Set me free to find my calling
And I’ll return to you somehow.
    In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing,
    I’ll be homeward bound again

You’ve heard of weapons of mass destruction
I think you’ve heard of war crimes
      Now I have one instruction
On what not to go near in your free times
      his name is
      Mr cigarette!
      Mr cigarette!
he’s stronger than a jet so he’s quite a threat and will punch you to tibet!
      Mr cigarette!
      Mr cigarette!
he’s got a wife and a boy, but don’t let that destroy, his wish to treat like as a toy!
You walking down the street, you see some fresh meat, wanting to feel elite.
So he tries to be a brat, you need to format, a way to one up the rat!
      you go to chat…
      Mr cigarette!
      Mr cigarette!
he’s stronger than a jet so he’s quite a threat and will punch you to tibet!
      Mr cigarette!
      Mr cigarette!

      Instrumental break
You’ve heard of children we don’t like them
Since owens been gone it’s been mayhem
You want them out since no one likes trouble
And there’s one way to turn them to rubble
      Mr cigarette!
      Mr cigarette!
he’s stronger than a jet so he’s quite a threat and will punch you to tibet!
