really just boils down to someone breaking the rules right in front of us and nothing happens to them. Same reason we dont like to see botting. It's not that it affects you that there are 100 bots on the oak tree you aren't chopping. But it just doesn't feel like the game is under control or enforcing it's own rules

Yes, it's sad to pay bank and risk your account for something you don't deserve. You can do inferno with like 200m in gear now that bowfa and other newer gear is a thing, and it only takes a couple weeks and a bit of dedication to grind out. Also:
1- you rob yourself of the satisfaction of beating something hard, the skills you gain along the way, the best slayer task in the game (maybe this one is subjective but still)
2- if my duo partner has inferno and fang kit I like to think they're competent, and it's a huge disappointment when it turns out they're actually useless

Getting spoon fed fake achievements like buying blorva or an infernal cape is just sad. I can understand paying for a cosmetic upgrade, but most people that pay for an infernal cape or blorva don't buy them for the aesthetic, even if it's a contributing factor, most people pay for the bragging rights or the idea of the achievement. I know because it's the same crowd that pays for ranked boosts in esport games and I'm a former booster in LoL. If you just buy fake achievements from someone else, you probably don't know the satisfaction of accomplishing things on your own otherwise why would you rob yourself?
Aside from how I feel about why someone might purchase a cape, it also just infuriates me that so many people simply believe that rules don't apply to them. Some rules are genuinely stupid, I can understand that to an extent. However, it's like people speeding on the road and swerving in between traffic and doing genuinely dangerous things for themselves and those around them that make me angry and why I believe that people should follow the rules when reasonable, instead of believing that rules should only apply to everyone else. And let's be honest, not buying a cape, or anything else that requires someone else play your account, are reasonable rules to follow.

There's game integrity and security as core values we would sacrifice if starting to accept account services.
If everything is free, there's no progression. no grind, no pride, no integrity, when you look at another person with a sweet item you'd like to think, oh that's a nice item, good for them for persevering and you can aspire to do the same.
Someone else doing it for you erodes a big part of why we don't just play single player games, we want to see what others do and compare ourselves to them.
Then there's secure practises. I don't think anyone thinks it's good to have it part of the culture to let other people in control of your account or computer.
Someone enjoying themselves a little better for wearing a shiny cape seems quite small compared to the cons. And afterall, the joy is shortlived if you don't have the memory of the struggle of getting that item. Unfulfilled, maybe thinking of the next item to buy.
I don't think we should start accepting account services, the pro's not worth the cons and risk. (I don't encourage flaming other people either, that's not a solution)

Back in 2021 I believe, Jagex released a stat that said something around of the 50k players who had a cape maybe 8-10k of them were legitimate. This was based on the number of removed capes and amount of first-kc times that were extremely faster than normal.
It was thought back in 2018 that 90% of the capes were bought out of ~13k capes.

A big draw to osrs for me, and what makes the game feel worth playing long term, is that there are very few pay to win elements (and virtually none as an ironman). I personally am against account services and account sharing of any kind (even if it is technically allowed). I'm not going to play batman or anything stupid like that by making it my job to take action against these things, but players who compromise in buying achievements will compromise in other areas too. But yah... if you want to pay to win there are plenty of games out there where you can do just that. I hope OSRS never falls into that category of games. 🤷‍♂

I like your comment dude, the pay to win aspect being absent in this game is nice! Dont think many players buy bonds for gp with the cost, but buying gp is kinda ehhh in my opinion

I think ppl get mad bout cape buyers because they mostly suck at other team content. Not doing the inferno by themselves puts them in a very weak situation regarding to their game knowledge and mechanics, and this usually translate in bad raid teammates.

thats the most stupid take i ever heard. apart from puting your account at risk when buying a cape and forever living with the shame of knowing you couldnt do it by yourself, it harms the games integrity big time. encouraging people to buy a cape because of peer pressure does not even count as an opinion, thats something a 14 year old would say

A broken bot, or farm is one thing, but reporting random people because they don't have their chat on or are using entity hider and didn't respond to you is another whole level of scummy. I 100% know that the evaluation system only operates on reported player accounts, You could make a bot that slicks the same exact pixels at the same exact time 16 hours a day and not get banned unless a report is filed against you. Make a level 3 f2p account and test it out, just don't gain any XP in a single skill to arouse someone to report you. I guarantee it will not get banned.

I've been in multiple different "big clans" on this game. In every one I've been in, at least 80% of the infernal capes in there are bought. Most of the time they have a guy in the clan that does it for them. It's extremely cringe to me to see people getting 75 minute capes on for their first KC and everyone GZ's them when it's obvious they bought it. Buying a cape should be a perm-ban no matter what so that people will be less likely to buy it, because as it currently stands you can buy a cape and the worst you're gunna get is a 2 week ban and maybe have the cape removed.

Ngl man this "who cares bro just do what you want" take is pretty ass, infernal and blorva are trophy unlocks for your account, they represent accolades/achievements, paying someone else hundreds of dollars to get it for you so you can show it off as your own isn't valid or chill lol, it's just kind of pathetic. It's basically the in game equivalent of stolen valor. Like ultimately it doesn't affect me but it says a lot about the person willing to do that.
