Always enjoy listening to Bruce talk about his, and Bob's, KISS involvement. It only occured to me the other day after being a KISS fan for 45 years that there are hardly any songs cowritten by Paul or Gene with Ace or Peter, but they wrote with Vinnie, Bruce, Eric Carr a couple of times, Eric Singer a couple of times and Tommy Thayer

Bruce & Bobby Kulick are close to my heart for sooo many creative reasons. But for ONLY a handful of reasons to do with KISS. As a fan of KISS since 1975, and as a professional musician ( bass, six-string, twelve-string, percussion & lead and backing vocals for 45 years, DOZENS of groups), AND seeing KISS live more times than I can remember, I can tell you, and believe what you want, but on ALIVE vol. 1, that is UNEQUIVOCALLY, Ace on guitar. PERIOD. That said, I really came to love Bruce & Bobby when BOTH were in Meat Loaf's band touring in support of Bat Out of Hell in '78, after Meat Loaf recorded Free For All with Ted Nugent in '76. If you get a chance, look up Meat Loaf live on Rockpalast in '78 on CZcams, and you'll get to see both Bruce & Bobby side by side playing live during a great creative time period.

Bruce is always a class act. Funny that KiSS Killers wasn’t mentioned though? That’s Bob on the four new track. For the record, Bob stated in a 2011 interview that “nothing he played made it onto Creatures”. Vinnie plays 6 of the 9 solos on the album. Steve Farris is on Creatures, Robben Ford on Rock & Roll Hell and I Still Love You. Funnily enough, Vinnie co-wrote I Still Love You but didn’t get to solo on it. Can’t argue with Ford’s solo, it’s tasty as.

I worked a Kiss show in 1991 which is when Kiss Alive III was being made and the area at stage right was blocked by a curtain and there were two (2) guitarists playing behind that curtain. I can only assume they were playing so that when the artist raised their hands at the audience the music continued.

"Many lead guitars players play and their sound and the way they play is like a finger print. When Ace Frehley played a solo there was no mistaking his playing. "Ace" played every single track on Kiss Alive 1975. Some of it he had to go back and fix in the studio, but not every song. Bob did play "All American Man, Larger Than Life, and maybe 1 more on side 4 of Kiss Alive 2.
Dick Wagner played one or two solo's on Destroyer, but I believe Ace played all the other solo's. Except for the ones that Paul Stanley played. He's a decent lead guitar player too.

Although I still can't understand why KISS didn't hire Bruce Kulick to replace Ace after the reunited band once again had to let Peter and Ace go. That is not true. Peter's drumming was the only thing that didn't need to be fixed. All the other members had to have some stuff redone but primarily the album is live. The crowd sound was layered to give the album more excitement and the downtime between songs was tightened up to keep the pace going. Bob Kulick was one hell of a guitarist. Should have had a much greater career and been center stage. Bruce is a great guitarist too. Though not the most talented guitarist KISS ever had (that honor goes to whack job Vinnie), Bruce was by far the most professional and exactly what KISS needed when they needed him. He is a total class act.

I agree, as far as overall talent is concerned Vinnie was the most talented, although we'll never know what Mark St. John might have become (RIP). Bruce I feel got the short end of the stick in two ways. One, because he was in KISS, the critics were never going to give him any respect for his playing, and second is that Gene and Paul held him back a little. Honestly, I think one of the biggest mistakes KISS made with both Bruce and Eric at the time was not releasing No No No as a single. I respect Gene and Paul, I had the opportunityt to have lunch with them twice back in the mid-90's, but that doesn't mean I agree with every decision they make, and I feel like they never gave Eric Carr (first and foremost) and Bruce the opportunity to truly shine. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble.

Why do you say Vinnie Vincent was more talented than Bruce Kulick? As far as a guitar player, Kulick could shred circles around Vincent. And it was only because Kulick wouldn’t put the makeup on that he isn’t the guitar player in the band today. Kulick was the most technically proficient guitarist the band ever had. I thought Bruce was also a great metal guitarist at the time, but his versatility is really all encompassing. I thought Vinnie Vincent was a weirdo from the start. He definitely is today.

@@paulscott6998Vinnie was, is, and will always be a weirdo. He has serious mental issues. But his contributions to KISS are undeniable (Creatures, Lick It Up, and Revenge - three of KISS's strongest albums with or without makeup -- would not have happened without him and KISS likely would have done in the 80s). While Kulick lasted far longer, his contributions to songwriting weren't as prevalent. Neither could Kulick shred circles around Vinnie if you're talking when both were in KISS (now, yes).
