I really like how Toyota had the tuner scene in mind for the new Supra
That made me love the car even more!
Your car is so dope, love that yellow. Imma get one soon and I really like your wing but imma go ahead and get the seibon carbon spoiler because of the resemblance of mk4 supra. Seems to me no matter what mod this car is a beauty!
I’m not normally one for big wings but that suits the car very nicely. The yellow really makes it pop! Great work Eric 👍🏻
Glad you mostly like your Supra. Love the looks, particularly in yellow!
Picked up a new-to-me FRS a couple weeks ago. Love having a sports car again; forgot how much I really like having a smaller car. It reminds me a whole lot of my Opel GT, just 40+ years newer. Thanks for putting it on my radar a number of months ago.
The FRS is an amazing platform. You're going to love it! Yes, the new Supra is strongly influenced by the Toyota 2000GT
which has some Opel vibes.
Hey dude, I feel you on the emotional connection to the car. I have a 2020 Supra as well. Since they announced the release of the 2021 and all the extra power that it makes I’ve considered trading up; but cannot. This car is apart of my life and I enjoy modifying and tuning mine to embarrass hellcat owners on the weekend. Great video, #itsback
You have parts? I need a kn drop in filter please. Im From San Diego
What I want to know is how does it drive in the snow?
Am concern about the suspension and relaxed ride .. Does new Supra give that feeling?
Its nice to see the review after watching you doing the leaks videos a year before the announcement, time flies
Thanks for the insight on the shocks. Had no idea Monroe made them. Have you had snap oversteer at the limits? I hate how unpredictable the rear stepping out at the least expected moments.
With stability control off you can absolutely spin the car if you lift. Best approach is to treat the throttle gently when cornering. A big lift will take the weight off the rear tires and can cause traction loss.
Wow well reviewed Eric!!! Can’t wait to hit the streets with the Supra Community again.
I've had mine for a couple of months now. Have you have any rattling with the bar behind the seats/in and around the subwoofers?
Yes, the subwoofers rattle. They are meant to be ported. There is a fix, but it requires 5-6 hours of work.
I hated it! Fix is to gut the car and sound deadening the interior then replace the speakers and the subwoofer! I made a small video but still planning on a video on my aftermarket sound system upgrade for the A90
Just bought one two days ago, black premium with the JBLs, haven’t had rattling and hope I don’t anytime soon.
Slow screens irritate me so much when I'm driving and can't have a passenger fiddle with it. Despite that, it looks like a pretty fun car. Nice review!
Is that the GTC-300 or GTC-500 wing? Also can't confirm as i don't have the car yet, but I've heard that disabling the fake engine noises through the speakers via OBD2 significantly increases the sound quality of the speaker system. It makes sense if you consider that layering multiple sound sources on top of each other will cause a distorted and muddy sound.
This is the GTC-300. DM me on Instagram at RevMatchTV if you are interested in one. Yes I disabled the fake engine noise! It helps a lot with the audio!
I’m going to get mine soon I want to get the same wing. Besides the cool look , performance wise helps? Thanks 😊
Yes the wing makes 150 pounds of downforce at 80mph. Message me on Instagram when you're ready to get the wing and I'll get you set with one.
@@revmatchtv I like it as well, will be considering it when i can get myself a 2021. At first i wanted the A91 and i'd still take one but i bet dealers will be sleazy and mark them up again like the 2020 LEs. I'll be more than happy with a yellow, seen one in the dealer showroom and its a great color.
@M I'll definitely not be paying sticker, I want at least a little bit off if I'm buying when they arrive. They're not going to be selling so fast anyways with the current state of the world anyways, and I'm in no rush so if i have to wait I'll be just fine waiting with the Model 3 i have right now :)
How does the Supra compare to the fk8 Civic when it comes to technical driving in the twisty roads? Can it be as precise?
They are completely different platforms. How can you compare a FWD car to a RWD car? Totally different dynamics. I haven't driven them back to back, but the CTR is very impressive, but I can tell you the Supra is massively more capable and extremely precise and easy to drive. Entirely different price classes and type of car. Not comparable at all.
15:34 subtitles says: [Music]
subtitles are pretty good.
CZcams is smart like that! I saw auto translated subtitles yesterday for the first time.
Great review on your Supra. I'm glad you like the wing but not my cup of tea so to speak. I'm 6'2" (not fat:) so I need to get in one to see if I fit. I was thinking I could recline the seat a bit to fit.
You should be able to fit at 6'2". It will be a bit hard getting in, but once you're inside there's plenty of headroom.
I like the wing because it's functional. It makes the car much more stable on track. However, I like the clean look without the wing as well.
@@revmatchtv Very cool. I wont be doing any track stuff so the wing isn't needed for me. I've been a car nut since 1971! Still very young mentally! Its good to know headroom should be good for me.
love the wheels
Thorough review! If you're not sure if the paddles are metal or plastic, they're probably plastic. My M3s paddles were plastic and one eventually broke.
It’s here, it’s faster and drives better. Nothing else to say. Job well done on the video.
Not my favorite wheel setup but the car looks great
Can you do a video on the 2021 Supra, most the reviewers say the power bump is noticeable and steering is greatly improved. Any thoughts on this? Car and driver put the 2021 on dyno and it got 388 at the wheels which means 2021 is 400hp+ at the crank and the torque is at 421 lb ft at the wheels. Were 2020 owners screwed? Also Toyota told reviewers that every year there will be an upgrade to keep the Supra interesting. Maybe a manual? Also how long do you think they will keep the Supra alive because from what I heard they are not selling at dealerships and now dealerships are having to sell under msrp and might not be profitable to keep this car alive :(. Love to hear your thoughts!
Unfortunately the 2021 press cars were extremely limited due to the whole pandemic situation. I will have access to one in a couple months and I'll do an in depth comparison then.
The 2021 has lower compression, and more lag, but higher hp potential. It's the same engine as the Z4 and the Z4 feels laggier. I'm not in the slightest upset with 2020. A tune and downpipe and we're making 500+ HP on E30.
RevMatchTV Sounds great cant wait for your review then! I’m also looking forward to anymore gr 86 news, that should be exciting as well
Car & Driver actually timed the 2020 at 3.7 seconds (0-60 mph) and the 2021 in 3.8 seconds. Of course, the 2021 was faster in the 1/4-mile.
Amazing car. New subscriber here. One question I have is the durability of the turbos. Scotty Kilmer mentioned he replaced a dual turbo system like this one on a BMW and it costs over $12,000
This may be my go too in five years when I retire. Will be an excellently maintained one owner. My other option is a 2002 to 2003 C-5 Corvette manual or a 2012 to 13 C6 Corvette manual
The B58 is a single turbo. It's been around in one form or another since 2015. They seem to be very reliable do far. Toyota had a hand in the engine desing most likely. There are lots of people who are pushing the engine far beyond what the stock power levels are without any problems. The version in the Supra, the B58TU1 was updated in 2019
@@revmatchtv awesome 👏. Thanks for your reply ! Guess Scotty Kilmer was wrong. He claimed they added a 2nd turbo with the 2021 version. I’m hoping a 2021 version will depreciate down to about $30k in 5 years; if it does, the 3.0 premium will be one of my retirement gifts to myself. My two other choices will be a 2002 to 2004 C5 Corvette or a 2012-13 C6 Corvette both manual. The C5 will be a lot less money in 5 years so it will come down to $ as it always does
I love Toyota, JZ engine for me is the ultimate. The 2020 supra is great and I like ur simple but really nice set up. Ur wing, nice rims. Maybe u could lower the car alittle. The supra makes the colour yellow looks good
It was actually lower, but I was scraping on everything so I raised it up to be more functional. I've HKS adjustable springs in in.
Everything is amazing in this car for a dd gt cross country car... except i could do with a different style front bumper... maybe if the middle part was painted or something... other than the front bumper its beautiful and the b58 has tuns of potential
I was like what is he talking about in the beginning 😂
Just bought the 2021 Supra, and I am a big fan of JDM cars owning a 1976 Datsun 280z in yellow during my youth. Both cars being tale happy and squats during acceleration. I will say the Supra is fantastic having German Engineering with Japanese tuning and hopefully durability, time will tell. But I will say it is definitely a throwback of the past JDM but with todays engineering especially coming from Toyota and BMW. Its a blast to drive the boy racer inside me comes out. The suspension, transmission and acceleration is fantastic especially being stock Toyota and just coming out from dealer. It was worth buying it and I miss rear wheel sports cars.
@@revmatchtv by the way, the Supra I bought is Nitro Yellow like your car..
Maybe the aftermarket can make something to replace the center of the steering wheel to say Supra instead of having the Toyota logo.
Damn, this Apr spoiler looks fascinating
Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure that this car is worth buying, if not to mention getting out of the car.
As a Supra owner would you take a used GTR or buy the Supra all over again? 🤔
Supra all day long. The GTR is getting quite long in the tooth and has a completely different philosophy toward driving. I’d take a Tesla Model 3 Performance over a GTR which is a further refinement of the Nissan philosophy which is to remove driver skill as a factor in lap times.
I spotted a black new supra heading the other way up in the mountains yesterday. I thought the new supra looked great.. needs a targa roof but it looked great
All the colors are nice. I just happened to see it in black the other day up around the 7 lakes mountain passes etc and the supra looks a million times nicer than in photos...really quite nice. I would imagine the yellow looks awesome too although the rear wing in any car is a bit loud for my personal taste ..yet as long as the owner likes wings thats great too
BMW joint venture with Toyota should be a positive thing for sports car buyers..supposedly BMW is the "ultimate driving machine"
The value of the 2020 Supras will plummet once the 2021 cars are out. The 2021 Supras have as much as 47 more horsepower and over 30 lb ft more of torque above 6,000 rpms. The 2021 cars will be much faster in stock form and the lower compression of the 2021 models will allow much greater boost, torque, and horsepower under heavy modifications. Toyota really has done the 2020 customers wrong.
FalconGamer58 Sounds like he doesn’t own one. I don’t know a single owner who thinks “Toyota has done the 2020 customers wrong”.
RevMatchTV you think that because the 2021 isn’t out yet. Just wait. When the 2021 comes out you will see that not only does it have vastly better performance in stock form but it will also have a much greater potential for really high torque and horsepower modifying because of the lower compression ratio pistons.
I am not saying that the 2020 is a bad car. It is a really good car. However, the 2021 model is significantly better and it is what the 2020 model should have been in the first place.
Once the 2021 model comes out and people see how much better it is the values of the 2020 model will plummet. No one will want those cars used when they can buy a much better brand new version.
@@LearningFast wait, are you saying that a used car will depreciate because the manufacturer has made improvements? if so, Thank you so much for sharing your unique wisdom.
I’m telling you man, that steering wheel is pure Toyota. Maybe the only Totoya item in that whole interior. It looks just like the Lexus LC500. On the other hand, the Z4 steering wheel still looks like the BMW F-chassis. The only thing, the rounded air bag.
Man everything about this review is on point
Is the new Supra a new icon? Yes it is!
I genuinely feel like they nailed this car (especially with the 2021 version too). However the front bumper, looks so wrong without the lip like yours have. Aside from that I really like it, and was surprised how roomy it is.
Toyota did a really solid first year entry. I've also had zero issues with the car and my friends all have had zero issues to despite much abuse and upgrades.
I’m a little against you I really like the steering wheel for some reason. But the gauge cluster looks so Cheap. I’m a big gauge cluster guy
Sorry but we need more footage of supra and more videos driving tracking everything
I like the wheels
They are Konig Hypergram 18x9.5 and 18x11. Lots of tire choices in this size.
I love the look of your car.
I think the worst thing about the Mk5 Supra is how much is BMW, I don't care about the engine etc, like as you said the Steering Wheel is very BMW, so Toyota cant even give their car their own steering wheel. Now something like the Idrive system I perfectly understand, pricey car (compared to a Corolla), you want good quality
There's no question the Supra is very much a BMW at its heart. At this point though I'm not too hung up on brands. I enjoy the car for what it is.
@@revmatchtv I'm not saying I don't like them though, tbh I think looks and performance Toyota done very well, but I just wish put more in making it a Toyota you know
It was cheaper to build the Supra for Toyota, just like how they did the RAV4 EV, it was cheaper to oursource the Tesla motors and just retro fit them into a RAV4, granted Tesla did not give Toyota access to their software(which is one reason they were discontinued, and many motors had to be replaced) but with the Supra, BMW is the only manufacturer producing an inline 6 turbo engine...but I’m assuming BMW gave access to their ISTA software, which is what we have now at our dealer, but Toyota has a high expectation when it comes to reliability, and some parts are put to the test and redesigned to Toyota spec’s....if Toyota did develop a new Supra from the ground up and a totally new engine platform this car would’ve been an easy 150k car instead of the 50k-60k price tag it is right now...
you do know that detractors aren't always internet trolls ? I really dislike the wheels on the car but if you like them (and i believe you do) it's what matters !
It's not easy to convey subtle gradations of internet culture in a review like this. The wheels seem polarizing actually. People seem to love them or hate them. Not much in between.
@@revmatchtv they're very "like it" or "hate it" wheels indeed. I like your wing tho, it's a very bold approche for the MK5 imo!
@@revmatchtv and I appreciate your replies, I've been watching for a while (not all the time but often!)
The GR Supra and I may become a thing, who knows.
Oh you finally bought the SUPRA ! what happenned to the Corvette?
I've only got space for one car. The Supra is very mod-friendly and I enjoy messing with things =)
I rather have a model Y. Your car looks great tho
Model Y is pretty cool, but it's aimed at a completely different buyer. Having both would be ok, but I'll take a Model 3P instead =)
how can you even compare the two ? its like comparing a lemon to a banana
I just wish they had not used so much BMW interior parts like they had a huge chance to make the car very Toyota and even if they wanted to make it Lexus but they went lazy
Only the HVAC and infotainment looks BMW. The Toyota info systems are terrible. I’d rather have this. The rest of the interior such as the vents and seats are Toyota. I have no complaints. It’s high quality and well constructed.
Is not that its not a real Toyota is that its not even jdm,I think it would have been more accepting if the collaboration would have a came from Subaru,Mitsubishi or even honda...no one cared about the Toyota 86 not being a real toyota 🤔...don't kill me my opinion🤷♂️
Where a car is made doesn’t stop me from enjoying it. That said, it would have been nice to be a bit more Japanese. Why do people not care Lamborghini is owned by VWAG? Actually a lot of people complained about the 86 back in 2011-2012.
My 2020 Supra had the same problems, but found a permanent fix without replacing the subwoofers. With much fuller bass sound as the payoff with all vibrations disappearing as well !! Here’s the fix: remove the thin panel on the backside of the subwoofer box, drill 40 or 50 holes all the way through the panel with a large drill bit, then cover the entire panel with speaker cover mesh held in place with hot glue on the inside surface of the panel. Then Replace the panel back in its original position and you are done! The problem is that the original setup doesn’t have a way to displace the sound waves into the air, resulting in poor sound and a lot of unwanted vibrations. This will work, I promise, what a difference!
I’ve been planning on doing something like this by adding a port behind each sub and make it a little nicer looking. Thanks for the tip! The subs were meant to be ported but Toyota seems to have forgotten it!
I was concerned about my fix looking trashy, but with the speaker mesh, it turned out very very nice, it adds a touch of class to the cargo area!
it's not a Bronco, or Bronco Sport, so I will never like it or ever recognize it!
Haha - while we're waiting for the Bronco I'm out here vibing with my Supra!
FYI greedy Dallas Toyota dealer wanted $100k last fall for one....so I passed I love letting everyone to know what Dallas Toyota dealers are doing....turned me off this car for long time
Mark ups are ridiculous. I flew across the country to get this yellow one at MSRP.
They can be had under 50 grand here in Chicago. I’ve driven the car. And felt it was awesome. Just have not pulled the trigger yet because I’m always on the fence about first year cars. Waiting for the 2021.
I don't think the new Supra has to be anything like the Mk4
Like the Mk4 is a different car from the Mk3 and same for the M1/Mk2
People tend to forget about the 2000GT which is one of the greatest sports cars of all time and the new Supra really goes back to the driving dynamics of a inline-six, two seater sports car
It's a Toyota, not a BMW. U get a Toyota/BMW anyway
It's certainly a Toyota in terms of branding and who sells it. The shared CLAR architecture, drivetrain and virtually every component are sourced from BMW though. Toyota definitely had a huge hand in this car, but at the end of the day it's assembled by a third party, Magna Styr in Graz Austria. It's a global car now.
Its not a Toyota... Its a BMW I Will never buy that. I Will buy Toyota's that are actually made by Toyota that are reliable like a peace of steel.
I know quite a few owners and almost no one has had a major issue despite tons of modding, tuning and abuse. Watch Steph Papadakis' tear down video if you want an inside look at the B58 engine. It's stout. And +1 to the Scotty Kilmer comment!
Gorgeous, slowly becoming one of my favourite cars!
