Sticky Ricky opened his 3rd eye. Giving away rotund tidbits. "If you need a day off or to cheat on it it's not sustainable" relates to so much more than just lifting
One thing must be admitted that for 8 or more years Eric has been providing us with energy, motivation, new ideas and golden tips. Thanks brother for this journey.
Stick I live in Charleston, South Carolina a.k.a Flordia Jr. and I also am training in my garage (baby rat nest) with no insulation which gets up to 104 degrees at 88% humidity. I am certain that like the primordial soup that created life, a sweat soaked southern garage gives birth to the mindset. I know almost exactly what you're going through in the rats nest and I love seeing it.
I've been doing this, but only with stupid body weight after I destroy myself on squats... I'm definitely adding this to the repertoire for the total fatigue. Honestly my favorite tidbit so far
Speech at the end was epic and completely resonated with me. I’ve been stuck at the same weights for a long time and I’m only getting older. Changing things up periodically and trying new bars, techniques, etc is what keeps lifting interesting and enjoyable.
Great tidbit and I totally agree with the Viewpoint and it can apply to a lot more than weightlifting and I appreciate how you put the concept into words because communicating and truly getting your point across to someone is a difficult thing to do nowadays
Game changer for sure. nice for extra reps when you're normally taxed. As well, Eric, your enthusiasm and passion is so intoxicating. Really. Keep at it, the fitness world needs more people like you. Old school mentality!
Pure genius. I have been a band advocate for years not because of any direct carryover if you only use heavy band tension and don't use heavy weighted stretch straight weight 2/3 of the time or more but frequent use of bands with compensatory acceleration which is kind of a given if you are using enough band tension and a weight that isn't too heavy, with a decent amount of tension in the bottom position say 20 or 30 lb will teach you how to drive weight through the top without pulling back on the weight involuntarily so the fear of it coming out of your hands disappears it is a natural involuntary instinct when lifting weights that have a lower sticking point such as the bench press which most people stick somewhere off their chests up to about where their upper arms are parallel to the floor typically involving a medium to wide grip which is what most people use, tends to lead to a sticking point someone between 2 and 7 inches off the chest with the last four to 10 in depending on the grip width in your arm length under stressing the triceps because of the momentum regenerated with strong pec in front delts such that the weight seems to explode much faster after the sticking point leading to an involuntary pull back sort of similar to people pulling their punches when punching a semi-hard surface such as a fully packed heavy bag especially near the lower part of the bag or working punch mitts as a beginner especially if you do not have your hands properly wrapped and your fist properly closed tightly with a decent high density foam glove covering your hands.. people mistakenly think that boxing in the pro and amateur matches they see on TV is unlike a bare-knuckle fight, which it definitely is but not in the way they think most people think of bare-knuckle fight results in punching harder and more intensity being delivered the reality is that wraps and the gloves and even headgear are not designed to protect the person getting hit it's designed to protect the hands of the person doing the hitting when you have your hands tightly wrapped and your fist protected, following a few months of training you learn how to drive your hip and dig your feet into the ring surface or the gym surface and essentially relax your weight so that you actually have more balanced and are more sturdy and heavier.when you have your legs and body tensed up you are not delivering power from the ground up through your legs turning your hip, rotating your shoulders and really tightening your hand at the point of impact while punching through the target penetrating a few inches before you explosively pull your hand back to the guard position with your fist protecting your chin. This is the best analogy I can come up with because most people before they box have gotten angry and hit something a little bit too hard like a wall for instance and realized that the small bones in your hand will always lose that contest. The same is true with the bench press because most people will warm up with a weight representing less than 30% of their one rep max and realize that if the excerpt the same amount of acceleration force as they do with a fully loaded bar with 90% plus of their maximum effort if they don't pull back on the bar the bar will fly to their hands and land somewhere on the chest or face it will invariably fly out of their hands a few inches before coming down hard and hitting them in the face then throws or the chest. Obviously that's not a desirable resolved so the body starts involuntarily reversing the momentum on the bar by pulling back on it this is why so many very strong pressers don't achieve their potential by probably 5 to 10%. This involuntary reflex is ingrained in your system but a few weeks of band training will completely reverse this involuntary response because the weight is getting radically heavier or should I say you are getting radically more tension as your leverage improves so you train yourself to try and outrun the bands which of course is impossible as the bands cannot be outrun they simply increase in tension at the same amount of length that they are pulled. This will force people to use their high threshold fast twitch motor units (this refers to the way muscle fibers whether fast which are slow twitch are bundled together and then innervated by a single neuron). The more you train with fast concentric reps learning to explode from a dead stop or reverse the direction of the bar with extreme speed and efficiency as you go from The eccentric to the concentric or positive push it This trains your nervous system to fire as many motor units when you are pectorals front deltoids and triceps as possible so that you are using or more precisely commanding all of your muscles to fire at the same time alarm in a kinetic chain that maximizes the use of force so your pecs Dallas and triceps all fire at the right time so that there's no slow up during the movement and it's a smooth explosive drive through the top because you are using maximum resistance, the bar is not going to come out of your hands. That's the benefit of using bands for raw pressures because the strength curved is totally different. Sure depressors can't figure out how much lift they're getting out of the shirt and use band tension or board pressing range of motions to mimic the way the shirt works. When replacing raw presses for shirted presses the strength curve is radically chanced. As a result the benefits of using bands for raw presses has more to do with training your nervous system to fire without quitting through the top of the motion. This particular set up for squats is ingenious because of the specificity of the straight weight, followed by the use of the band to get out of the hole and overload the top of the lift still using straight weight said that you are not f****** with the strength curve. Absolutely brilliant and something that I've never seen before despite the fact that I have come up with some goofy uses for bands after using a comedy resistance since the late 90s
My GOD! Stick Del Hagen, I am going to the garage right now and first thing in the morning. That’s the most motivational lifting video since the I Need a Hero video!!!!!!
That speech was so powerful, I almost stood up in salute. For a second I heard an eagle in the background. Idk if from the video or from the pure succulent manliness here. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I tried kneeling del Hagen hammer curls supersetted with reverse EZ bar curls following your earlier video Ricky, they were amazing. Minimal body swing and a succulent pump. Will be trying this setup some time too. Many thanks big horse ❤🔥
Rick, in this world of confusion, your golden tid-bits continue to provide me with sound, actionable, tactics that I can employ to reach my goals. Love you man.
Hey Eric could you go over your power rack setup? Which attachments you would deem must-haves, useful, waste of space (of the current ones you're using)? Going to build my home gym soon and looking for more input. Your garage looks about the size of the area im going to fit my setup.
I tried the supinated grip dumbell fly yesterday- holy buckets! Had to go lighter because shoulders felt a bit compromised (even after doing the Sticky Ricky resistance band warm ups as per your video). But the pump and stretch was unreal.

I’m ready to run through a brick wall! I’ve got a resistance band on my toilet to practice being explosive out of the hole
Outstanding

Your passion is second to none - INSPIRING
thats actually a brilliant band trick for squats
P.S. We need a HOLY BUCKETS shirt asap
Yeah, nice twist on long chains on the squat bar. Seems like it would compliment the stretch reflex better
Holy Buckets This video made me want to stop what I was doing and go squat. Love you Sticky Rick and all the Golden Tidbits
The speech at the end... Training is not about discipline, training is about how much we want to better ourselves and the thrive for it!
Sticky Rick you’re a damn legend! You said you only were sharing one golden tidbit but there is so much more here… God bless you brother
