    It's time for an extended video format from Tedward. Just him driving and talking about whatever for about 45-90 minutes. Similar to what the podcast was, but in video format. And if this ever happens, do not trim the silences, nothing wrong with just driving around with you for a couple minutes without talking.

    Your view on classic cars reminds me of a story about my uncle. He had a very nice, high quality vintage fishing rod that looked brand spanking new. On one fishing trip, one of my brothers or I worked up the courage to ask him how he was able to keep his old fishing rod in such great condition. He started telling us how thoroughly and carefully it should be looked after. He let us into a world of fishing rod maintenance we didn't even know existed. Then, he paused. His wisdom was still sinking in, so we all stayed silent. Finally he said, "Well, you just never use it."
    Limiting exposure.

    Living in Texas, we've got mostly straight roads with very few fun turns. However there are always a few gems that help me relax. Lime Creek Road, Cow Creek Road, and a few others out in the hill country help me decompress. It's great to see others doing the same thing and still staying within safe speeds (spirited, but safe). They're often far enough out that the folk who would drive around while on their phone don't bother with the trek.

    These 911’s from the 70’s and 80’s were just so perfect to drive, even without a turbo it was so enjoyable (unless you spun out). What always was most impressive about Porsche’s from the 70’s and 80’s was the level of build quality. They were always expensive, but you knew you buying the best of the best.

    I went down to visit family in Southern GA this weekend in my IS 500, and honestly, having the open farm roads to be able to use the power got old after a couple times. There were too many State Troopers around, and the roads were not the smoothest. But! There is something magical about looking to the left and right and just seeing open farmland, and then, I just cruise with some music on. That kind of driving has its place, too!

Going out driving into the country, running, exercising and actually meditating, playing golf and nature helps a lot. I watch your videos to relax. So thanks 🤙

  • @qikqbn77
    @qikqbn77 Před rokem +1

    Not sure how old you are Ted, but as I get older, my ability to deal with bs is less and less. I hate to think that some day I will be that old guy yelling "get off my lawn!", but I feel it coming. I also know what it means to work so hard and for so long that you even get frustrated with the fear of missing out on life and doing more exciting things than the daily grind. Being able to relax get's difficult and sometimes when on vacation it takes me 3-4 days just to start to calm down and then it's all over and back to the grind. Driving is good for the soul, but it's got to be relatively easy to get to your favorite roads too. Otherwise it just becomes another hassle to deal with and the amount of effort versus the amount of reward becomes a big factor in the enjoyment of the car. Fortunate for me that I am only 10 minutes to some of the best canyon carving roads here in Southern California, but the joy and adrenaline can only last for so long before reality and the daily BS kick in again. From a outsider's persepective and true car enthusiast, it is awesome to get to experience all the different cars that you do! Keep up the great work and hoping you can find more of that joy in your daily routine, not just when driving Porsche GT3 RS' 👍🏼👍🏼😉😉

    We live in a region where you only need to go 10-15 minutes to find nice back roads through hills to wineries and other destinations, yet most non-car people (which are really most people) can't figure out why one would drive recreationally (i.e., without having to go somewhere like Walmart, Target, or taking kids to soccer games). So the existence of sports cars, Jeeps, etc, is still puzzling to much of the suburban world. I can feel what Tedward is going through on a day to day basis.

    Sounds like you need a few more drives still Tedward...lol. I totally get what you are saying though, I have a lot of struggles with anxiety and depression myself and driving is one of the only ways I can really relax sometimes. Unfortunately after putting a few grand into my car this spring fixing some paint and body stuff I had been saving up for it promptly had 2 significant break downs last month and is still sitting in the shop waiting on a transfer case...so it's kind of the opposite of relaxing for me right now seeing my savings dissappear...lol. Such is car life. I'll just have to keep living vicariously through yours and others driving videos for now...lol. As for your comments on having empty roads and also civilization, that's what's nice about the Midwest, I live in a city in Iowa that is typically one of the better rated places to live in the country yet I'm 10 minutes from the middle of nowhere at any given time...lol

    It sounds like you need to take a vacation to Germany. Because of a business trip, I've spent the last two weekends driving around Bavaria, where many of the B-roads have 60 mph speed limits, and many of the Autobahns still have unlimited stretches. The cars are so competent! Even my humble 1.5 liter turbo'd VW T-Roc ( aka Taos in the US) was a comfortable 110-plus mph cruiser. You will also see many of the cars that you cover on your channel being driven around. Just this weekend, I've seen a Merc 300SL Gull-wing, a BMW 3.0 CSL, a few Lambos, Aston Healys, a Merc Pagoda, A BMW V12 coupe, and countless other Mercedes AMGs, BMW's and Porsches.

    I completely agree with the sentiment about limiting your exposure to classic cars. I took my Alfa Romeo Spider out last night for a drive and the past few drives I keep thinking about what I could replace it with. Is it no longer meeting my needs? I can't say that's true at all, but what I do think is true is that I'm not giving it the roads/situations where it shines best. I need to be conscious about when and where I apply the classic life to avoid driving it just being a slog of the classic pitfalls, which, if you do only experience the bad parts of a classic car, will make you really not like it.

    I was smashed into while in my first 944 that was also my first car. First accident I was in where I was driving, and one of many accidents I’ve been in while other people were driving (none of them our fault, we were always hit). I’m not talking Mickey Mouse fender benders either I’m talking proper complete violent accidents. And I’m 25 for fucks sake. The way people disregard other human life on the road blows my mind. Driving for me used to be therapeutic. I loved taking my 944 out in the mornings on a Saturday or Sunday. I’m also an avid believer in owning a car to drive it. That’s why even after all this I force myself to daily my replacement car, an 86 944. But holy shit can I not just have one day in my life, where people don’t cut me off, where they don’t pull right up to my bumper at a light, where they don’t ride my ass while im doing 50 in the right lane and the left lane is wide the fuck open. The amount of times I’ve had to eye my rear view mirror as someone is pulling up behind me to move forward because they’re not paying any attention, or worse, they’re deliberately trying to get as fucking close as possible to my rear bumper is insane. I’m at the point where I’m seriously considering garaging the 944 and just getting a B8 A4 or something. I share your frustrations and I find comfort in someone like you with a large platform saying the things I say in my head every single day. I keep trying to respect the drive man, but if one more person swerves into my lane or does any more of the aforementioned atrocities it makes me wish I could just drop a couple gears and triple digit myself and my car as far away as possible from every idiot I encounter so I can just get to where I’m going intact.

    Want to live out in the sticks. Have to live in the city for work. Drive a Corolla because of it. I do have a dirtbike though. That helps.

    I hear you on the anxiety. I'll be doing something I like and not really have any identifiable source of stress and still be on edge and worrying about things that are sometimes entirely inconsequential or things I have no control over. There are times where I'm reminding myself that I'm doing something I like and should be enjoying myself.
