  • Harry Frank shows you how to create the classic Special Presentation logo seen on network TV back in the late 70's and early 80's. To get the effect, he'll demonstrate a powerful technique for mapping color over time.

    First of all this tutorial was amazing. I have used my new retro logo for a class project and got a lot of compliments. Second, could you do a tutorial on how to make a bumper like at the top of the video? That thing looks AWESOME

    I assume that this was made before the debut of the built-in Echo plugin in AE?

    • @harryjf
      @harryjf Před rokem +2

      Sorry for replying 4 years late, but no. Echo wouldn't allow custom color mapping of the echoes, nor would colorama work as they are overlapping. They need to be individual layers.

    Most important thing forgotten in this tutorial - that glow-ish tracing of the letters from the 1st intro of this video.
    How do you approach that?

      @eladbari Před 2 lety

      @@keikikai5005 Thing is- it all looks separated and organic. Therefore- he probably applied SABER to each character of the word separately, since SABER is animated on a whole word very symmetrical, hence, losing a chance to feel organic. Must've been a letter-by-letter animation

    You say you will post the project for download, yet there is no project posed for download.

    Very new at this so I'll ask some questions. 1). How do you position the rotate icon in the middle of the 'C'? 2). How do you make it zoom in? You're just clicking on keys and not explaining how to, which can kinda confuse new learners. Thanks for making the video. :)

      @MaxonRedgiant  Před 3 lety +1

      1) He put the text in a precomp and moved the word until the C was exactly in the center. You can turn on guides in your comp for safe areas and a center crosshair.
      2) He presses P to reveal the position property and then sets keyframes for it in 3d space.
      That said, this is a tutorial that uses some pretty advanced techniques. We would not recommend this tutorial for beginners to After Effects. That is to say, don't let it discourage you if you get frustrated trying to follow it. After a few months of using AE, coming back to this tutorial will make a lot more sense.

    Every time I've ever hit the collapse transformation / continuously rasterize button, it makes it so the comp will not honor 3D animation. What am I missing?

    • @MaxonRedgiant

      You have to toggle on the 3d switch for the layers inside your precomp.

    I'm having an issue with the color expression. I copied the code that you pasted on the gradient layer -
    instances = thisComp.layer("Midtown is Memphis Comp 2").effect("Echospace")("Instances") + 1;
    x = (thisComp.width/instances)* (thisProperty.propertyGroup(1).propertyIndex-1);
    x = [value,[1]]
    and I am getting an expression error. Am I missing something?

    • @ShantanuBaviskar
      @ShantanuBaviskar Před 5 lety

      why'd you make it *x = [value,[1]]* instead of just *[x, value[1]]* ?
      Try that and let me know
