- Allison Janney and Oscar winner Sissy Spacek are experienced actresses who know a good thing when they see it. That's why when the opportunity came along to star in the new drama "The Help," they were immediately onboard. The film, based on the best-selling novel, is set in Mississippi during the 1960s. It revolves around a southern society girl (Emma Stone) who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends' lives-and a small Mississippi town-upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families.
Bonnie Laufer from www.Tribute.ca spoke with Allison and Sissy about playing two very different mothers, the mass appeal of the book and how working on the movie made an impact on their lives. - Zábava
One of my favorite lines....
"Skeetah, sometimes courage skips a generation." ❤
Sissy Spacek is so funny in this brilliant movie! Without losing her professionalism in acting.
Sissy's line "Daddy ruined you" told where Hilly got her mean streak.
Aged 22 I found myself sitting next to Sissy on the bank of the Seine in Paris and was already a fan. She took my sketch book and wrote to me from Sissy with love. Still a lovely woman.
Two Oscar winners right there!
Sissy is one of my top 5 actresses. Allison is superb. They both have class
I'm still scared of Carrie but I love Sissy Spacek. She was great in this movie
Allison Janney is a BAMF. Seriously y'all she's awesome.
the original Carrie... her eyes still gives me chills!!
Ladies you were both wonderful in your roles and I would have given you both an academy award!
I just love Sissy Spacek I bet in real life she is just down to earth and nice to be around I just wish they had more of Miss Walters in the movie
I heard by people who talked to her in real life - and they said she's humble, sweet and kind :)
Sissy Spacek is marvelous! So funny, so talented, I adore her!
I watched this movie... probably one of the best, BEST movie i've ever seen :)
Great interview. I loved these two women in their roles, a lot of depth in their characters. A class act.
With regard to Hilly Holbrook's personality, either she became a Narcissist, or was born a Psychopath. Her mother, (Sissy Spacek) seemed a lovely lady and well grounded. So the Narcissism was not inherited from her. But her position in life, being pampered, and still being so cruel, where she enjoyed putting others down, seems a psychopath's personality. Hilly was either a Narc or Psychopath, or a combination of both.
Two greats together
They were AMAZING 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
“Put momma in a chair before she breaks a hip”
“🙄 I’m not deaf yet hilly” 😂
Charlotte Phelan and Missus Walters
2 great women. And yeah, the little girls were awesome 2 :)
Sissy spacek is my friends cousin texanna
Almost forgot, Sissy made me laugh :D
I dont understand why, in the story, mrs walters should be old and has dementia when her daughter hilly is barely out of her 20s. She couldnt possibly have had her in her mid-40s as that was rare back then...
Very very good point. But she could have been a change of life baby, shocks did happen .... would explain why the daddy is also gone.
Maybe people aged more rapidly back then
Good point. However, I have female relatives that had children in their 40s back in the day.
I don't agree that dementia made mrs. Walter's not racist. I think (more or less in 60s standards) she wasnt really racist. She mentions how hillys dad ruined her in the scene where she wouldn't let minnie use the toilet. Even when minnie gave hilly the pie, minnie didn't want mrs Walter's to eat it. She clearly liked her. So it was probably mostly the father being hyper-racist plus probably spoiled hilly which is why she became a witch wanting to control everything and doing whatever to do it. It would also explain why shes not close with her mom (considering her dementia is still really mild).
carrie :O
