The Gunshop Fizz - What IS this drink?

  • Today, we’re making the Gunshop Fizz! You may wonder, “What is this drink?”. I did too (I’d never heard of a cocktail that called for Peychaud’s bitters as its base spirit). I foolishly questioned if it would work, but my doubts were put to rest when I had this drink that’s built in the style of a classic Pimm’s Cup. This is a complex cocktail that is brilliantly balanced, and I don’t know that there is a redder drink out there. Created in 2009 by Kirk Estopinal and Maks Pazuniak, the Gunshop Fizz was named in honor of the pharmacy owned by the creator of Peychaud’s bitters, Antione Amédée Peychaud (now an antique gun and sword shop located in New Orleans’ French Quarter). If you’re intrigued even a little bit, you have to try this one. Cheers!

Different products. The bitters are concentrated, the aperitivo is like aperol. It's confusing, but not interchangeable.

I did not have a lot of these ingredients but wanted to use my Peychaud's sooooo badly. I believe the cocktail gods blessed me because I ended up making a beautiful, bright pink drink that is also delicious! I welcome anyone to give it a try.
    1.5oz Mezcal
    3/4oz Maraschino liquor
    1/2 lemon (juiced)
    1-2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters.
Salt on the rim of a chilled glass- up, down, whatever ya fancy
Shake in shaking tin filled with ice, strain, and enjoy.
seriously this drink is so pink I was amazed. I bet it would be delicious with Gin or Vodka as well!
