Judy Dench has to be one of the best people ever in history. Her acting skills and singing skills are brilliant. A bucket list would be to meet her in real life ❤
OMG. So here I was searching the web for sheet music to play this song on the piano, and came across this... And now I'm stuck on this... Now THIS is how you tell a story with song and music... Most beautiful rendition I've ever heard... Dame Judy... Love her in everything... I'm bawling my eyes out... Good night
I *love* Judi Dench's voice. Have you heard her singing as Sally Bowles on the Cabaret soundtrack from 1968? czcams.com/video/OhwvDYHeX7U/video.html I love her voice there, it's kind of hoarse. Not what you typically hear.
Her voice and the meanings she puts into the words are indeed deeply moving, and very lovely. This is one of my favorite renditions so far of this song. She's so good. ☺️
As an actor, one must intrinsically feel the imaginary wall between the stage and the audience, and never ever cross it otherwise the wall breaks and you have the realness of reality instead of the performance. At the end, when the audience was applauding and cheering, Judi was feeling all of what she had held back so as not to break that fourth wall. The alchemy of artistry. The genius that is Judi Dench.
There are no words I can find that say the right thing about Dame Judi Dench. This actress to me stands head & shoulders above all accolades I can think of & I adore her humour too.
this was a segment of a live performance called Hey Mr Producer: The Musical World of Cameron Mackintosh -- Judi Dench and David Kernan -- a 1998 concert given at the Lyceum Theatre, London, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. It was a charity gala in aid of the Royal National Institute for the Blind and the Combined Theatrical Charities. Originally was only available on non-US VHS (which I promptly had converted) -- but I see it's now available on several pricey imported DVDs. and worth every penny for the performers: Bernadette Peters, Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors), John Barryman, Millicent Martin, Lea Salongo, Jonathan Pryce, ALW/Sondheim birthday duet, Tom Lehrer, Maria Friedman, Elaine Paige, and introduction by Julie Andrews.

@@gareththomas6714 I am a fellow debunker of many things. But JD doesn't just _sing_ this song, she _acts_ it - that's what she _does_ . You don't listen to it for her voice, you watch and listen for her acting. She has never AFAIK claimed to be a singer. (I think Sondheim liked one of her performances of this, mind.) As the original Sally Bowles, she suited the original novel/play better: Sally Bowles is not _supposed_ to be good - she's singing in a tawdry cabaret in pre-war Berlin. (Liza is of course great and made one of the great landmarks of musical film; it doesn't matter that she's so good, as it's a musical, not the original play.)

Typically Dench, she gets every last drop of emotion out of this. Stunning!
100% agree 😊
It's like somehow eavesdropping on a terribly private and raw moment. So moving...

There's something about JD's voice and way to deliver words that is deeply moving.

I just don’t understand why there’s no closed captions provided? I can only guess @ how lovely it might sound if I could hear!

It's hard to remember she was the original Sally Bowles (Cabaret) in London back in the 60s. Would have loved to have seen it.
I think the audio is on here.
A magical piece of theatre that never ceases to touch one's soul.
It has nothing to do with her fame, it is her rendition of words so poignant and true that makes me love this so very much, thank you Judy !
I would listen to Judy Dench read the phone book!!! She is always awesome!!! 💚💚
An Artist of Many Talents. Goosebumps!!! A real Diva.
Lovely clarinet.
Definitive performance. She acts the piece, and interprets it magnificently.
A master class.
Please change the title - it's "Judi" and not "Judy".
Splendid actress *and* splendid singer. 🎵🎶🎵🎭
Multitalented.
Not everyone can do both.
She can.
Brava. 🎭
Love, anger, regret, irritation, irony--such a beautiful round performance. Brava!
Heart-wrenching performance! I was bawling!
A wonderful performance by a Dame. Well done Judi, you’re the best xx
Anyone who has gone through a break up can relate to these lyrics. I can hardly bear to hear it but I love it so much too.
Pure magic.
Simply awesome in everything she does. This lady needs to live forever xx
Skyfall notwithstanding.
Dame Judy Dench sings with absolute facial passion and of course a voice to match.Ahoy !
Moved me to tears
Wonderful performance!!! What an actress!!!
I was blubbing before she even started singing. This is being typed as tears are streaming down my face. Just so heartbreaking.
Brilliant. Put everything on hold and just enjoy it 🌹
Love that lady.. great artist
I agree with all these comments. perfectosxx
OMG. This is ........ the best...❤❤❤. 🎉
One one of the best renditions but every singer that does it is great thank you Stevenson tine one of the greats
Bravo Judy dench
She never fails to pull me into her gift. Such a treasure ♥️
Beautiful.
this is the first time I have ever truly understood that song and the lyrics. I held my breath and a huge lump formed in my throat as I listened.
How many times have I watched and listened this masterpiece during the last 3 or so years?
Oh my, I'm in tears....
She broke my heart 💔
She's good at anything she does 😅❤❤❤❤
A fabulous song and the singing is very emotional too. LOve it

Dench is a great talent. She wrote a good set of memoirs, too.
Truly Magnificent
Wow just fabulous ❤
Powerful. Thanks for sharing.
I love her. She is spectacular.
So clearly and beautifully delivered.
Dench, the phenominal Dame with a voice that goes straight into ones soul. No wonder Johnny Depp, also a multi talent, adores her.
Beautiful song, sung beautifully. ❤❤❤
The most expressive, lived, version
Wow! Amazing.
I didn’t know she had this talent have always admired her excellent performance
WOW!!!
BEST I have ever heard!
Beautiful❤
Simply magical.
Wow ... "M" can sing!
I did NOT know! Dame Judy is so much more than M.
Sooo moving. Wonderful !
Magnetizing !!
That works on so many levels.
RiP Mr. SONDHEIM
Mine too!
I have a great print from the song
The phrase, " shivers down the spine ", springs to mind.!!
I love this DJD but I also like DET covering it in the film.
❤❤❤
Wow
🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭
Oh............
Wow. That's acting.
Beautiful performance!
I think though she came in at the wrong time toward the end on "Isn't it rich..."
Might have been intentional, since the next line is "losing my timing this late in my career."
She did it because she sang maybe she got the timing wrong
Her name isn't spelled that way.
She's Judi. Not Judy.
No complaints from me otherwise, this video is absolutely beautiful. ❤️💙❤️
Do we know what this was from? Concert, semi-staged production, what?
It's from the Stephen Sondheim production "A Little Night Music

She's great but Peggy Lee's version is divine.
Who is asking us to choose?
who told her she could sing?
