‘man people today always like to gatekeep their own interests, why can’t we all just love and respect our interests just like back in the good old days?’ The ‘good old days’:
It’s a good thing the Yankees were a great team towards the second half of the 1970s because I can only imagine the Yankees in the South Bronx having a special combined Disco Night on Bat Day with a special 10 cents beer night. Oh, what could have been?
I just saw "THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE" on PBS and I had never heard about this incident . I am a senior citizen now and I knew about the "DISCO SUCKS" movement in late 1979 . I have to admit that I was a fan of disco music but my friend Mark was not .
This event has never been forgotten but not for good reasons. The majority of people DON'T think "Disco Sucks" so fortunately it ultimately failed. But even if these knuckleheads DID hate disco....why the aggression? who were they trying to intimidate with all this? The music industry? The musicians? Other people who like to go to parties and dance? Or is it black people? Gay people? Most people by this time, going to discos, were white and straight anyway!! At the core of it is just confusion, a lack of purpose and meaning....just pointless. Fascinating, but pointless.
It does. After this event, many radio stations still played the music but did not wish to call it "disco" any longer due to what was becomming a negative connotation. The name was changed to "dance music". Eventually throughout the 80s and 90s it would become "techno".
@BlubberBrother I hear that. I am into really complex gothic music. Not only a guitar bass and drum, but an entire orchestra. lol. Trust me I adore REAL music. Then there is punk rock which is as real and raw as it gets and dare I say some of those bands from the 80s were way more talented than the 70s generic so-called radio "rock" But Disco sucked and will never come back
I imagine the legacy of disco music will outlive the White Sox in the long run. Seriously what have they notable achievements have they had in the last 100 years beyond that 2005 World Series win? Tim Anderson getting knocked the f*** out by José Ramírez perhaps?
People were absolutely sick of disco. Rock and Roll took a backseat on the radio stations who played the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever, among others constantly ad nauseum. This made way for the more creative sounds of the early to mid-80s, but by the late 80s the music got downright insipid. That opened the door to a lot of actual rock bands of an unlimited amount of influences in the 90s we called alternative rock. Many of those bands had been around in the 80s and some, like REM had been rocking since the 70s. The found a highly receptive audience. I wish we'd have another music revolution like we had in the early 90s. Still some good stuff today, but it's getting harder to find.

"things were much better back then"
back then: exploding vinyls, overfilles stadium, inhaling toxic fumes, stampedes, flying metal shrapnel
This is how society CANCELLED people before social media.
Hell, they cancelled an entire musical genre!
In America. In Europe, it stayed popular for a little while longer.
If you say so

When do they do this for f-ing kpop??

The Old Roman, Charles Comiskey, would have been proud.
they were definitely heavy metal fans
Ironically, their own Rock n Roll was about to die in the early 80s when hair bands came along. 🤣
They were all rock fans apperantly
@@PincoPallino-zh8wmthank god for thrash & grunge, hair metal was more embarrassing than disco, fun but embarrassing imo

That’s really deep bro…
A little wacky?
I'm sure 150K people now swear they were there!!
Thanks for House music
Oh what a night!!
I think that's why Retro became the main electronic music of 1981 to 1989, and it's more synthesized and dancier than Disco.
Just my theory
