Okay, so if I don't watch it for 10 years and then want to watch it, will it be availabe to me? I doubt it. So I paid for something, yet I don't have the actual item......I do not like that. Joe Bob is beyond correct. Unless its ONLY on VHS, i disregard tape. Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra Blu-ray along with NES to Nintendo Switch cartridges & PS4 discs, physical books and comics etc. It is MY Private Property. Partially one thing i think is disheartening with my generation who are upper middle-class and Upper-class socialists? They disregard physical property the moment it inconveniences them. Funny thing in my case, wall sheleves filled with games, movies, books, i have to do wall shelves i have a 135lbs Cane Corso, trying to give him more floor space. Point is, display your media, be proud of it, it is YOUR physical PRIVATE property

He leaves out a bit of context on the Clownhouse story. That director's other movies are available, and in fact they still make movies (the Jeepers Creepers series). The reason that particular film is hard to find is because the abuse he was arrested for occurred with one of the actors, during production.

I had to watch this rant again after the recent news broke about Best Buy announcing its discontinuing DVDs and Blu-rays come 2024. I'm a definite supporter of physical media and would hate to see boutique labels like Vinegar Syndrome, Severin, etc. fold due to the shrinking marketplace for stores that sell Blu-rays & DVDs. I miss having multiple options for stores to shop for movies, from Media Play (whose selection crushed Best Buy's, to say nothing of MP's book, video game, CD, and other departments) and Suncoast Motion Picture Co. to Sam Goody's and Coconuts. The 21st century just continues to get worse in terms of people being disconnected from face-to-face life and having actual places to meet. Once Best Buy axes its DVDs and Blu-rays, the only options left for movies on physical media will be Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes & Noble, FYE (what's left of it), regional chains like Bull Moose in northern New England, and the odd independent store. Truly sad. 😭

I’ve gotta agree with him. I prefer my DVDs to be honest. As much as I love to watch movies on Netflix, Amazon, etc there’s a far better feeling of comfort I get from physical media, knowing that I own it, and that it’s not just going to disappear because Netflix’s contract expired. And on Censorship… He does have a point, but the Internet is such a huge expanse of code and separate entities that whatever you want will available somewhere, whether or not it’s practical, easy to locate or even legal is another matter, but it’s probably somewhere out there. I don’t really have too much of an opinion on Censorship in general anyway. Yes, I know all about Free Speech and whatever, but that doesn’t really apply to the Ratings system or companies refusing to purchase something they don’t want to show. You have a right to say what you want, just be mindful that you don’t have a right to be listened to.

I think the appeal of VHS is more about nostalgia. You get to see old previews and imperfections in the sound and picture quality. I had a copy of True Lies on VHS that was recorded off of HBO in the 90’s or early 00’s. I can still remember some of the flaws in the tape where the picture or music was distorted. I watched that tape like 100 times.

Risk drops stock price. They dgaf about free speech. Movie causes a fuss? eliminate it. Pretty soon it won’t just be extreme music or movies… it’ll be everything. They Live is becoming a reality, sadly. BUY THE PHYSICAL MEDIA!

    Good evening Joe and friends..
That's why I just spent fifty bucks on the UHD Last Waltz film..
While I do continue to purchase films via Google etc; anything that i really love, particularly music related, ends up on DVD, Bluray or 4K Disc. I'm hoping to eventually wean myself off of Digital Streaming Service completely and finally go back to choosing a film off my shelf as the only way for me to view a film. Perhaps it's a good idea to purchase an extra Bluray player while they're still available. Skits such as those we see on Red Letter Media and the VHS repair shop, I'm confident they'll be Bluray repair shops still around, at least till my time is done within the next 20-30years..

my advice would be DO safe those VHS tapes because when a sturdy pre-1990s VCR gets a malfunction after 30 years of usage you can usually MacGyver jerry-rig it to start working again but try building your own microchips or laser-eye for your DVD/Bluray player that with regular use is guaranteed to quit working within 10 years and by that time they stopped fabrication and replacing it will be as difficult as trying to rent Edward Penishands 3 on LaserDisc from a Blockbuster Video Store next to a RadioShack that sells new factory-sealed blank E-240 VHS triple-packs

    • @darthjsin
      @darthjsin Před 3 lety +4

@@MontagTheMagician you obviously don’t know how VHS, or any magnetic tape works. Every time it is played, it loses resolution. The tape is worn from friction. It also loses resolution each time it is copied from its original source. These issues do not happen with DVD or Blu Rays. The instance you gave of the trailer and VHS promo is most likely that the quality of the original source material were different. The original trailer and the VHS promo weren’t recorded at the same time on the same equipment so they didn’t come from the same source

I'm a feminist, and I own both a blu ray and the new 4k of I Spit on Your Grave. I also have a VCR player. I do not watch it because I am a hipster; I watch them for 3 reasons:
    1. It is the only affordable option (I recently bought a cheap VHS of a movie that is OOP and goes for $50+ on DVD)
    2. It is the cut I prefer (I prefer the VHS cut of Conan the Barbarian to the blu ray cut)
    3. It is more fun to watch on VHS (the audio on my VHS of Out for Justice is better than the mono audio track on the blu ray and/or I would argue--like vinyl--some films do look good on VHS--in particular, anything shot on VHS or some films intended to look grainy or grimy)
That said, yes, I buy physical media because I don't want people telling me what I can watch and streaming services only care about movies they think will make them money (ie they don't actually care about films).
That said, if you don't watch Tubi, check them out! They show all kinds of old movies almost no one cares about. Lots of old '70s movies you can't find anywhere else and a bunch of old Full Moon films, for example.

Joe Bob - "The Chances of I Spit on Your Grave Deja Vu getting into a mainstream movie theater in 2020 are somewhere between zero and impossible."
Me - Well yes, but that's more because of COVID than faceless corporate bureaucrats who work for "the Cloud"
All jokes aside LOVE JOE BOB BRIGGS!!!

@@TooTallTurtle87 the first one of those is "Life." Your rights end where they begin to infringe on someone else's ability to stay alive.

Deja Vvu Grave is a terrible film. Not bad in a good way, but just bad in a bad way. To the point that I thought it was some sort of money laundering operation.

Clownhouse is actually here on CZcams for free. I didn't know Prime censored the dick scene from Victor Crowley. I have it on blu-ray and that's the only way I've watched it.

great...except i really do think Tipper Gore wasn't trying to get rid of explicit music, she just wanted a label on the records to let parents know that there was explicit content inside, and i actually think that's fine.

No she was evil. I lived it. The satanic panic made people act stupid and see satanists in every shadow.
