  • This pellet smoker exhaust modification for your Traeger or other pellet smoker and grill will give your rig a whole new attitude! Not only does this vent those hot gasses away from your face while your cooking, but it improves the efficiency of your smoker by increasing the scavenging affect of your smoke chamber. I found this increased the temperature of my 'Lil Tex Pro Traeger's "High" temperature setting by almost 20 degrees when used with properly dried pellets and a clean machine. Enjoy!

    Hey Todd! You did it again....called it a Yoder! :-) I can appreciate your Metal Skills.....not everyone is handy. Yes it fit together like it was meant to be....almost too easy of a Mod!
    I'm fascinated and interested in what your findings will be with this Mod. Like You mentioned......a pellet grill is a forced air design......will this make a difference?
    I need to know because I'll be the first to add that stack to My Lil Tex! Oh....wait.......I sold it. :-( Cool stuff Bro!........I can't wait for the results! Metal On!!! \m/

    For those of you who are going to duplicate this don’t use gas vent USE PELLET VENT INSTEAD reason being the pellet vent is stainless steel! WHEN you heat up galvanized metal it puts off dangerous vapors that are NOT good to breathe!
    AND The taller vent stack will create a better draft through the fire therefore you may find your temperatures are higher than normal just have to compensate and that’s exactly what I wanna do to my green mountain grill because I can’t seem to get enough heat out of it!

      @mountainman.j2570 Před 3 lety +1

      Be careful doing any mod. However the gas vent pipe he used is the same as what is use in most homes for your furnace and water heater.
      Ps. The make a cap for that vent that you could use to top it off

    Cool mod, Todd. I especially like the idea of the double wall pipe. The outer wall should shield the inner from cooling from the wind. I think keeping the inner wall hot will create a better air draw throughout the unit, promoting higher maximum temperatures? If this is the case, I hope you will give us an update in the near future. It definitely added some “coolness” to your pit. 😎 👍

      You are right again! The High temperature setting gets way up there now. I do want to do a comparison soon and see what I get. I may have to take that stack off for the "before" but so be it...

    I have a pit boss 540 and I want just the short attack with the cap. Plug the majority of the holes and be able to contain the majority of the smoke as I'm not liking how little smoke taste I'm getting. IAM using good pellets and my smoker has and endless supply of smoke but I feel it's leaking out and it's not able to stay in the area of the meat. If anyone disagrees with this idea please let me know why and if you know of a better solution. Thank you

    Lower your stack outlet to grate level, not as much hot air will escape.

      Hey Jim, I thought I was having the same issue as well, it over time and heavy use, the seasoning inside the smoker has built up around the inside edge of the door and hardly has any bleed out of smoke anymore. I do clean my smoker after every use, but I avoid cleaning the built up seasoning around the inside Edge of the door. Hope that helps sir.

    My new Traeger doesn’t really smoke unless it’s like 120-180f. I am wondering how to smoke at 250.

    • @GreenhornBBQbeer
      @GreenhornBBQbeer  Před 4 lety +2

      It should smoke at all temps. The auger cycles and smoke is not constant. But you don't want to see the smoke anyway, not on a real smoker. It should be more of a blue transparent color. But pellet grills make these "puffs" now and then. Just have to get used to it.

    • @AM2PMReviews
      @AM2PMReviews Před 4 lety

      GreenhornBBQbeer yeah Traeger responded to me about this on CZcams. I guess they recommend mesquite and 130-180 for smoking. I did a pork butt but it just tasted roasted like in an oven.

    You know you shouldn't be using galvanized anything with food, especially when heated up, it releases toxic poisonous fumes. Should be using regular carbon steel tubing.
