  • The Asics Gel-Kayano line has long been synonymous with all-out stability. For those runners looking for a high level of support, it’s an option that sits at the top of the list, but has offered little versatility for runners who want a balance of stability, comfort and enjoyment.
The Asics Gel Kayano 30 sees one of the biggest revamps the shoe has seen for a long time, featuring an increased level of cushioning, a new FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam and a 4D Guidance System that aims to provide a more natural level of stability.
The Gel-Nimbus 25 sees some big changes from the previous version. As well as noticeably revamped aesthetics, the shoe now firmly sits in the max-cushioned category of running shoes. The new FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO cushioning, combined with Asics’ PureGel technology, aims to give a softer, more comfortable experience for easy and longer runs.
There’s an engineered knit upper for a stretchy feel that’s also designed to offer a good level of breathability, a knit collar construction for a plush, flexible fit, an OrthoLite X-55 sockliner for extra comfort, and a healthy covering of AHAR outsole rubber for grip and durability.
Tom and Nick give their verdict on which one to go for.

I always ran in the nimbus and had 0 issues, but after a small stint in PT for back pain related to a construction job, the PT told me I needed a stability shoe because my right knee collapsed inwards 🤷🏼‍♂️ I cheaped out on the Kayano and have been running in the gt 2000. Still no issues bio mechanically, no shin splints etc. but they are super stiff. Might give these new nimbus a try!

I am using the Nimbus 25 for most of my daily miles and, as a lighter runner (~62kg), I don't find it overly soft. However, I may go back to the Novablast next time, which still has more than enough cushion for me and is a little more versatile. Overall, the FF Blast+ works really well for me. Great comparison. I've been wondering because these shoes are so similar. I wonder if the Kayano is not as good for midfoot to forefoot strikers though because of the 10mm drop and there is so much foam around the heel. Thanks.

Both are EXCELLENT options and should be at the top of any nonrunners OR runners list. ASICS is hitting it out of the park with these two.

I’ve been rotating between both. I love the nimbus for long runs. I tend to lean towards the kayano when I’m nursing a little pain and need some support for my ankles or knees

Nice video as always. But it's the Gel-Nimbus 25 all day long. It's the better shoe. I also love this blue/orange colour scheme in this shoe. Looks so cool on your feet when wearing. I can highly recommend the Gel-Nimbus 25. Great cushioning and stability and I feel I can run quite fast in them to.

I work mostly in standing position. After a long day at work my legs are really tired but I don’t want it to stop me from running. Between The Nimbus-25, NB SC trainer 1 & 2 which one would you recommend for the max soft cushy runs? Stability isn’t an issue for me.

Used Nimbus for 6 months, and just got Kaynao, Nimbus is like a Cloud, K30 is like something more rigid.

Could you please next time explain what this stability exactly is for people who just started running? Does anyone even need such orthopedic shoes?

To give a rough starting concept, I am a person with a damaged ankle which tends to roll excessively inward (opposite of ankle sprain direction). If I try to run in a shoe with a very soft and narrow sole, I tend to get easily injured due to excessive 'unstable' side to side wobble, which detracts from the main efficient forward propulsion desired. If you put me in something like the Kayano, with a very wide, relatively firmer platform (sole), this tends to help control my excessive, inward(side-to-side) wobble. Does anyone do better with such 'orthopedic' shoes? Yes, me for one. On top of that, I use hard 'orthopedic' insoles. But in recent years the trend is to believe that fewer people absolutely need this strong side-to-side 'stability' assistance, which I happen to require in order to avoid a quick crippling. Many people do just fine with less "stable" shoes (often labelled 'neutral' ).

It would make more sense to get a stability needs runner to review both shoes. You tube are full of reviews by neutral runners testing stability shoes.... doesn't make sense

Not enough forefoot stability for me in either, the foam is too soft. The gt2000 v12 however, perfection.

Dude... as a heavy runner, these new shoes are underwhelming. They bottom out and deform very fast, novablast did not last more than 6 months. I was very interested in these two but i think I'll have to buy the 29 before they stop producing them.

Curious to know more, I am buying the Kayano 29 for my bro who is approximately 200 pounds and he's not that keen to use them because they are kind of stiff, but I think its worth it if they last longer for him.
