    Green held Irvin in check. The only big play Irvin got was that TD which should have been ruled out of bounds because Irvin didn't get both feet in.

      @jasondean88888 Před 2 lety +9

      Rules at the time were different. Judgement call was allowed by ref. Pushing a player out of bounds while they were in the air was still a TD if the ref felt he would have come down in bounds without the push. You can see the ref making that gesture to another ref during that call.
      Irving knew the rule, he likely would have run a slightly more shallow route or tried harder to get both feet in if it was today's rules.
      Irving knew he could come down in bounds from there, and he knew that if he didnt it would be because he was pushed, so it will still be a TD. He was only out by 2 inches on that push that moved him 2 feet.

      @@BuzZoo It's been a long time, but I thought the force out rule only applied if the guy didn't touch a foot in-bounds first. If he touched a foot in-bounds, the rule didn't apply. Again, it's been a long time but I feel like the rule applied only if a receiver was clearly going to get two feet down and a defender knocked him out of mid-air. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but this actually happened to Art Monk in Super Bowl 26 where he was hit after he caught the ball and his second foot (his toes) hit the end-line and they reversed the TD ruling because his second foot wasn't in-bounds after he got hit.
      I think the refs just missed this because it was a regular season game and they didn't review things like that back then.

      @@certifiedjay7485 he was not like those guys you mentioned but the game was played a little differently back then. It wasn't as much of a isolated 1-on-1 thing for most of his career. That kind of football really came into play when Deion Sanders hit his heyday as a pro. Green was pretty solid in man coverage because he could run with anybody. However, a big body like Irvin was an issue because he could out position him for the ball.

    You can clearly see in these highlights right here that Darrel Green, as fast as he was because everyone talks about his 40 yard time, wasn't on Deion Sanders level as a cover corner!! Deion may of not had the fastest 40 time but his game speed was unmatched!! Michael Irvin had his way with Darrel Green, not only did he score a touchdown on him, he was running slants on him and catching the ball. When he tried that shit with Deion, Deion caught that shit and shut him down!! He only made catches when Deion wasn't covering him. Darrel Green was still the fastest man in the league at this time but you can see the difference when you match them up and Deion is by far a much better cover corner, not even a debate!!

      This is complete bullshit. Green was not just better than Sanders...it wasn't really close. Just go look at the numbers that primary receivers got during games against Washington. Green would go man to man and let the rest of the secondary play zone. He would shut down his man and that left other player many more interception chances. Sanders was more of a zone coverage guy and looked for the interception more. Look at Green vs Jerry Rice numbers and compare them to the numbers Rice averaged in his other games. You'll see who the GOAT is.
