- Check out another new arrival in the shop, the ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition G513QY. In today's market, this one is more of a budget-friendly gaming laptop, complete with the AMD Ryzen 9 5980X processor, 16GB of memory, and a 512GB SSD. To top things off it has the Radeon RX 6800M dedicated graphics. There's a lot to like on this unit, but stick around to the end where I share 3 likes and 3 dislikes on the G15 series and on this specific G513QY-SG15.R96800 configuration.

I swaped out the slow ram, upgraded the wifi, and put in another 1tb storage ssd. It's running so much better than it was when I first got it on sale from bestbuy. Runs everything at high to max on 1440p above 60fps. I haven't tried the latest like hogwarts, or the last of us but other than that it runs freaking amazing. A lot more happy than I was when I first bought it.
Finally a no webcam gaming laptop. Looking for this long time for work and occasional gaming my job site is restrictive on any type of camera beside having a desktop this laptop will be my all around no need to shuffle when working and gaming.
I'm in the market for a G15 Advantage... But based on the serial number you displayed - this is one of the "affected units". Wifi problems, slow memory chips and random crashes.
Yup. I have one. Don't buy it.
@@bumbaclot813 Indeed. I should've got Intel/nVidia
Wich serial si that, cuase im thinking getting one of thia g15
Podrías especificar la serie, también quiero uno
You can literally upgrade the ram and wifi module
Same model as mine. bought it for just 1100$ on bestbuy 3 months ago and it's insanely good.
my own in-game benchmarks (average fps):
[shadow of the tomb Raider: 86fps at 1440p with highest settings, horizon zero dawn: 82fps at 1440p with ultimate quality settings, assassin's creed Odyssey: 64fps at 1440p with ultra high settings, gears 5: 83fps at 1440p with ultra settings (and ultra textures: Installed), far cry 5: 91fps at 1440p with ultra settings (and HD textures: On)]
Pretty much everything above 80fps on average & even the heaviest games like red dead redemption 2 and assassin's creed odyssey and valhalla are above 60fps at 1440p ultra settings.
I don't know why people making things up about it.. I don't have any wifi issues or sudden crashings or dead/stuck pixels on the screen (but the ram thing is true, it's the slow one cuz it's 2021 model even the legion 5/legion 5 pro have it. but if you playing at 1440p this will not effect the performance only a couple fps (2 to 6 fps) depends on the game optimization).
Try it yourself. It's a crazy deal, I'm really happy with mine. 3 months of use with no issues (I play 6 hours a day). just make sure before you play anything update the drivers and windows stuff to latest thing & I promise you will fall in love with it.
I did have issues with the Wi-Fi card needing a disable/enable after waking up from sleep. I bought a 20 dollar intel Wi-Fi card and problem solved.
what website did you buy it from? 1100$ seems like a nice discount
@@gapple_yt8004 bestbuy
@@Showz333 the strix have the better cooling system & the better screen.
my model screen specs is:
15.6" IPS
QHD (2560x1440), 165Hz
100% sRGB, 100% DCI-P3
300 nits, FreeSync Premium
It's very colorful & sharp detailed better than my old legion 5 pro screen + the laptop can handle most of games like shadow of the tomb raider, horizon zero dawn, gears 5 I get +80fps in average at 1440p max graphics settings. first person shooter games like battlefield 1, doom eternal & cod ww2 I get +120fps in average at 1440p max graphics settings.
this thing is a beast 💀
what a deal you got it for!! I bought mine around 1600 and I still feel like I had gotten a great deal at the time but 1100$ that's unreal.
So the model you showed is the more mobile version due to the screen as far as the rest it's also the highest version model 5980hx full upgrade is 64gig ram and 2 2 terabytes nvme gen 3 drives vary nice desk top replacement
What would I buy if i were to fully upgrade one of these?
Would you recommend this laptop for video editing? I am a Motion Designer who is fluent in After Effects.
I'd consider this a budget-priced laptop for video editing, so a lot of bang for buck. You could spend more and get an Intel-based unit with RTX graphics, and sure it'd perform better compared to this one. But, the price point on this Ryzen 9 model makes it attractive.
@@JayBrokers Thanks for the details.
They know why my GPU (Rx 6800m) is not used 100%, only 70% is used
🤩🤩Webcam is a NO NO no need for it
Is it worth buying this model in 2023 as cpu is old gen now 5980hx. Although gpu if future proof but i am concerned about wether cpu will last for next 5 years or not
Looking for same thing tho it's on power it 6000 series and you are getting that in most of the laptops so it's a good deal ig
yeah it’s still worth it. If you upgrade ram, wifi module, ssd, and use a external monitor it can put up a good fight against an RTX 4060/4070 laptop
Its look really worn. Really bad that you cant remove fingerprints. Have you tried to use any chemicals to wipe it down?
Rubbing alcohol works pretty good
