Lastly-my kids are now 16 & 18, and they’ve been in 4-H since they were both 7. They started with rabbits and then from 9 on, pigs. It is a WONDERFUL way to learn and the kids will love it!

My son used cattle panels and arched them over the chicken coup area and then covered it with chicken wire to keep out gritters and big flying critters. It works really well. We even had a possum..a BIG possum that went round and round the chicken area trying to get in and could not find a way.
I get excited about flowers blooming too. Spring just started where I live amd I'm pumped

You are such a good Mama. I know times get tough and times you want to run out the door and get on 95 and don't look back but I promise you these are the best days of your life you're young beautiful you give so much to your family it will all be worth it when you get 60 and look back. You will smile at all the good memories that you put into your family .and just wait till those hundred grandkids come to your house. That will be the second part of your life that you really will enjoy because you can give them back LOL.

Poor CR,but it was funny. I had a couple of little chipmunks that lived around my house and I'd put out cheerios grapes etc.for them.I came out the door one day to see a Hawk swoop down and carry one off! I was so 😡. Oh Lottie ,the star of the farm,🥰.Isn't it funny how 52 feels cold in the fall,but 52 in the spring,kids will beg to wear swimming suits and flip flops! Lol.Hugs from Missouri!

Maybe consider getting a guard goose! If you raise it from a hatchling with the poultry it will see them as it’s family and attack any predators that come near them.

I love the dahlias 🌸🌸 my grandmother passed away this spring and I got her dahlias, two of them actually still bloom and remind me of her. A hawk has been here as well, it took a chicken once and the other time a hen, now I keep my chickens in the chicken prison as I call it…

Get a guard goose! They can be great pets and will keep hawks and others away. They stay in the coop with the other chickens. Justin Rhodes has one

Too find out what exact type of flower it is I’ve always found the best way is to take a pic of it in the google search bar and it instantly tells you what exact type of flower you are looking at! I have had sooo much fun doing that since I was introduced to it! I guess it’s just the green thumb gardening nerd at heart lol!! Gardening

When you said you had exciting news. My first thought was your garden has something exciting. So my expectations were met.
I have had full grown chickens taken by hawks,one got free and came back home days later and was featherless!
Based on my experience with having llamas, it looked like they were having a dominance tiff. The one was sniffing CR and the camera, and the other got jealous. The mounting is dominance too.
Once the Daliahs have gone black in the first frost, cut them back, dig up the tubers and store them upside down in a dry shed or garage and they can be planted out again next spring.
Artemnesia is great to plant around chicken coops (it deters mites) it also doesn’t allow a lot of plants to thrive around it as well. When you trim them you can also dry the clippings and throw them into the chicken bedding and it continues to deter mites. 😘 also if you read about a little bit of chili flakes going into their feed, your yokes will become more rich in color😏❤️ they don’t taste the capsaicin

I know exactly how you feel about flowers. My garden is my happy place. Have you planted blackberries and raspberries? I added yellow raspberries to my garden, they have a subtle taste of apricot, not as tart as red raspberries. Enjoy the cooler temperatures, I know I am. Sorry about the hawk incident. Yesterday I had a falcon land on my fence, four feet from me as I was cutting some scallions. A first for me, he/she was beautiful. I’m glad I have German Shepherds and not a smaller breed. 🌸🌺🌸

Yes, that's the way to make burgers. I pass on the mushrooms too. But my husband started making the burgers with the cheese inside and it's so delicious. Also the crunchy onions! YUM!
Sorry about your loss. I can see that you struggled sharing the story and it's really sad. We tried to save little mice last year and later a sparrow baby. When we lost them we were all really sad. Thankful we didn't have to say goodbye to our Aussiedoodle Cupcake yet, nor our bunnies Ashley and Fluffy. That will be really hard!
You should look into string above the chickens outside coop. Hawks won’t fly into an area without a 2ft opening.
omg those cabbages, man... every time we have a bouquet that has a decorative cabbage, it sprouts roots, we plant it, and it grows into a giant, lopsided menorah and looks like something out of a cartoon :D

I know CR said the girls wanna do 4H with the goats but they also may enjoy the state horse show. I’m assuming your state has one- we are in GA. Our daughter loves it! They offer so much! English, western, huntseat, dressage, saddle seat and more!
Fake Owls and aluminum pie plates sometimes keep hawks away. No personal experience just hearing from other sources. No promises but worth a try! Have a good day!

Angie, so sorry to hear about the chicks. But you KNOW that you do your very best for all the animals who are fortunate enough to live on your farm! And TOYS for the chicks? They'll be well-entertained and it will be interesting to see which chicken is the most musical with the xylophone! . I have a question for you - why don't your kids wear socks with their gym shoes/leather shoes? I would think they'd be more comfortable with socks and socks would keep the shoes from getting smelly!! I'm seriously curious as I've seen people on other channels not putting socks on their kids!!

We had 4 chickens that were killed by a turkey vulture, hawks and more then likely a mountain lion. I say that because the chicken feathers were entangled with volture and hawk feathers. We know a mountain lion was on site due to prints. We did not see any blood or bones or anything. We have 30 acres of mountainesc terrain, we though maybe they were hiding but after months obviously we know they are gone. I was so sad for awhile
