2021 Touring bought brand new almost 100k already with zero issues. Normal maintenance always over 33 miles per gallon 600 miles to a tank. Great road trip car. And once you get used to the screen, it’s actually amazing. I am also not one to mess with buttons a lot so for me touching the screen once or twice for hvac is not an issue.
I also have the touch screen disorder issue...
2021 Outback Limited XT here. Sadly, I received a lemon:
- Turbo replaced at 35,000km
- ABS sensor failed and replaced around 20,000km
- B pillar rattle I fixed myself after 3 visits to the dealership (loose curtain airbag bracket)
- Roof rack replaced at 50,000km due to paint peeling
- Transmission replaced at 30,000km
That said, after beta testing the car, it's great now.
@@ekuhlkampwow sorry to here that. I have had 3 outbacks and first 2 went well past 250k no issues. Hopefully after all these issues it won’t give you anymore trouble.
I had a 2011 Outback that was one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Sadly I replaced it with a 2019 Outback after an accident and that one was a terrible lemon. Transmission failed at 35k, battery problems (had to replace it 4 times in two years) and then the AC died at 75k and I called it quits.
@@NodelphiI had a 2011 230k totaled by a drunk driver saved my life no major issues. 2015 over 100k no issues and 21 almost 100k no issues have had amazing luck and will only buy an Outback for safety and reliability. Sorry you had bad luck in your 19.
I like that you can get the Premium without sunroof unlike the Fotrster which upgrades to a sunroof on anything over a base. Where I live we have snow 5 months of the year and a lot of rain in the other months, and to me a sunroof is a waste of money and something else to go wrong. Had a Saab where the drain tube went bad and got a nasty leak soaking the roof pillar and floor. Had sunroofs in a couple other cars without issues but barely used them, just not worth it to me.
Subaru's Premium trims always have been my favorite, well equipped trims with cloth seats. I'm glad they haven't jumped on the vinyl bandwagon (except for the Wilderness) like some others... like Toyota & Mazda...
Mazda is a good product - in my family’s last 5 new cars have been Mazda, Subaru, Mazda, Chevy ( Bolt), Mazda. Most recent Mazda vinyl/cloth has been bulletproof when at the same age the one Subaru leather (limited) interior was cracking and had the finish coat peeling in places. Plus the first Mazdas transmissions were issue free at 120-150k miles with occasional trailer towing and fluid changes. Wasn’t a cvt fan.
Love your car video
Thanks for another great review of this exceptional vehicle. Love the Outback!
You bet!
Lexington Natives!! Hello Friends! Just got my 2020 Outback & in love!
Love the sound readings
I got a 24 Crosstrek Premium in July 2023. I drove a 24 Outback Premium for 2 days as a loaner. I loved the way it handles better than the Crosstrek. Now I am regretting getting the Crosstrek and want to get an Outback.
Well, you still have a very good vehicle in your Crosstrek. But - if you really like the Outback, you may want to see what kind of end-of-model-year deal you can get with your Subaru dealers.
Excellent review!
Just bought 2024 outback touring. There's 2025's out there already but the 2024's has a great discount and 2.9%/72mo. So far I love it. First time to own a Subaru so wish me luck 😀
Congrats on your new Outback!
You don't need luck on that Touring. Just follow the manufacturer's recommended service schedule, and enjoy.
It is about a month since I bought a new 2024 model, second cheapest trim. Despite all Americans are complaining for the awful gas consumption, for me (I came from EU) it is not a problem. I am just smiling when I am paying 30-40% less than I used to when I filled my 2.0 turbo diesel. The car have no alternatives on the market for its price.
I love the color!!
I really appreciate your great review on the Outback. I just purchased the the Outback 1 Week ago, and absolutely love the vehicle.
Question, maybe you can help me with.
I am adding a trailer hitch to the vehicle, and will be pulling a small trailer, about 600 to 700 total pounds.
Is there anything else I need to do the vehicle?.
Again thank you for your great and most informative video?.
It looks alright, I like the seats
So frustrating that there’s no hybrid. I want the power and space of an Outback, I don’t want such awful MPG, and I want to be able to run the AC while I’m car camping. C’mon Subaru!
Certain things don't bode to well with hybrid systems. Ground clearance and full time AWD. Look at the crosstrek hybrid.... thing got like 1mpg more. Both of those are what Subaru is loved for.
@@kyle-qw5yx The Prius and Camry both can be equipped with AWD. The RAV4 hybrid has over 8 inches of ground clearance and AWD. Subaru just fumbled the last hybrid attempt, and the 25 Forrester is getting a hybrid next year.
@@LeviRedrook i think you're greatly misunderstanding the difference between Toyota AWD and Subaru.
@@kyle-qw5yx I think you're glossing over the fact that Subaru is putting out a Forrester hybrid next year and is also partially owned by Toyota.
@@LeviRedrook Oh yeah, and what's the MPG on it? lol
Nice job guys & I think I should buy this 1 day.
Nah, skip this it’s still got TCV issue as well as the 2.5 Crosstreks and Imprezas.
@@tails300 Are you SURE about that? REAL sure? No, you're not......
I've owned a 2010 OB, 2015, & 2022; all 2.5 NA engines,. average ~ 27 mpg on all with about 60% highway driving. I agree with your assessments. While the 22 model is NHV continually improves the front seat area seems tighter with less storage. That is my main complaint. With the touchscreen complexity being # 2. It is usable but requires that I take my eyes of the road for 5+ seconds to make adjustments. That feels a bit too long for safety.
They say it only takes 4 seconds for an accident to occur if you get distracted. That’s definitely a concern
I have a '22 OB Limited XT. I don't need to take my eyes off the road for any "5+ seconds to make adjustments".
Great to see the led headlights….anything to avoid the chronic Subaru short lived halogen headlights syndrome. Last Subaru (and only one of 40 cars owned) i had technically required bumper cover removal for headlight replacement..
But i found (w help from CZcams) bulb replacement from behind was *possible* by peeling the fender liner and cutting up your arm on sharp metal edges. Not fun but worth it.
Please do more reviews on vinfast vehicles please mason and Drew
I like the sunroof delete option. Wish we had that over here…
Vertical screens are a distraction.
Also needa more physical HVAC buttons.
Why? Set the system to "Full Auto", set your temperature, and FORGET ABOUT IT. Unless you're one of those people that just have to screw with your system all the time....
Very versatile and comfortable. Base engine underpowered with leisurely acceleration. I owned a 2024 Limited and only getting 23 mpg in town although it gets 30 mpg at highway speeds! Wish I’d gotten the XT turbo!
We've had our 2024 for a month. Non-turbo 2.5 liter has power to spare, and we live at the top of a steep, mile-long climb. I encourage people to actually drive the car and decide for themselves. If you drive like you wish others would, you'll find it has plenty of power, even without the turbo.
Would be greatly appreciated when u give engine power figures , include converting them to NM and KW for viewers overseas
Just everyone knows, to replace that 12” touchscreen out of pocket is $4500 Canadian, so $3300 US. A friend of mine use to be a Subaru mechanic and he drives a crosstrek with that screen. Also, there is a slight chance when the windshield is replaced that some weird fluke, the software for eyesight can be wiped out of the system and the entire hardware and software needs to be replaced and reinstalled at a cost of $6000 Canadian. I work at an auto glass shop and we are trying to figure out how that happened on a 2023 Subaru legacy. Subaru is blaming us for wiping out the software in two cars.
Wow... you DO like to spew the internet myths, don't cha?
@@eskieman3948 no it’s true. Go ask for yourself
These giant vehicle touch screens are getting out of hand anyway imo. Makes me feel like I'm working at McDonalds again back in 2002 punching in orders for people. Zero creativity putting screens/more flat surfaces everywhere 😆
I'm mostly excited to see that Subaru is finally including the COEXIST bumper sticker on the '25 model. Way overdue.
How do you delete the driver distraction software? I hate those systems.
Read your owner's manual.
It takes a mere push of a button to blank the screen. I would have preferred a dash without a screen, but car manufacturers can't do that now that backup cameras are required. As long as there's a screen there, you might as well use it, and I know from selling an almost-new used car that young people often won't look at a car if it doesn't have a screen.
Does this model include the wire less charger like the the Premium forester
No
Have they already announced the 2025 Outback?
It’s not on their website.
I love how the Outback went from being a station wagon, to a lifted wagon, and now just straight up SUV. Sadly, there are no true wagons from any mainstream car company. Only luxury brands offer wagons these days.
Peugeot 508 SW
@@johanmarnfeldt5262 we don’t get Peugeots in the US.
@@Splendid_Lad THANK GOD!!!!!!!! 🤣😆😆🤣🤣🤣😂
I signed up on your website for pricing, but where is the invoice pricing information information?
It should be emailed to you!
@@CarConfections never got it
No changes from my 2023 touring XT
I like the Subaru Outback! I don't like a CVT transmission. That's a non-negotiable option.
And?
Did they fix the TCV like on the new Forester?
Nope not yet, the 2.5 Crosstrek and Impreza still have the same problem too. The 2.4T and 2.0 NA don’t though.
Turn signal should be LED
We're lucky they still have an independent turn signal bulb... Most new vehicles with LED turn signals are the same as the tail light & brake light.
I love it except for the screen. Would never get it with that screen
It's not nearly as bad as it seems. It's average in performance compared to other infosystems currently available in other manufacturer's cars & trucks.
Mini Vans replaced Station wagons and SUV's replaced Minivans in the USA, yes there are some station wagons left and still some popular Minivans but this is the age of the SUV and I suppose a Compact Crossover, but many people still call them a SUV when they are not an actual SUV
Not much difference from my 2015 Subaru Outback 3.6
Sorry. My 2023 Onyx 2.5L was sloooow. So slow that it wouldn’t accelerate on hill climbs in the New Mexico mountains. I had to hug the right lane while everyone passed by. I would not recommend the 2.5L motor. The 2.4L turbo is a great motor.
Agreed- when shopping the Outback, the 2.4 turbo quickly became non-negotiable. Love my '21 Touring XT.
Electric folding mirror, 360camera and HID?
Power folding mirrors in the Touring trim only. 360 should be available next year when the redesigned 2026 Outback debuts. Not sure about a HUD.
did subaru removed thigh support ?
It's on the Limited and Touring.
360 on the Forester and not the Outback. Strange choice Subaru.
I'm sure the redesigned Outback will have it.
This is the last year of the current generation of the Outback. The Forester is in its first year of a new generation. I am sure the 2026 Outback will have a 360 on at least the Touring Trim
What’s so “premium” about this car exactly?
Agreed, in Australia we’d jokingly call that level of trim “Poverty Pack” these days.
so refreshed means more expensive correct???
Check the pricing section of the video to see for 2025
Yuk, need to get rid of wheel arch black cladding....my 2016 looks better
I agree, my 2019 has very little cladding & I believe it is a much better look.
Also I don't have auto start-stop.
should give the cladding to wilderness trims. less cladding for non-wilderness. i agree 2015-2019 generation is a better looking vehicle without cladding. current generation looks like an original chevy avalanche before future models had painted plastic cladding
@@evanzillich270yes!!! i hate how subaru is embracing this. take a look at the bz4x. i hate it!!!!!
For USA where in one parking spot you can fit nearly two cars, maybe.
The cladding is a blessing in other countries where your car is being constantly hit by people who open their door and couldn't care less about the damage.
2:24 but why is it leaking😟😟
Air conditioning
Nope, just AC water, normal for every car
Seems to me like Subaru is just barely holding out on looking different from all of the other cars. My 2005 3.0 R just looks so unique compared to everything else on the road.
It's not, but you already knew that.
How are ya'll complaining about over 30mpg in a non hybrid suv?
Because they don't know any better. And for the record, the Outback in full battle dress is a 3900lb, AWD wagon.
@@eskieman3948 FR
I had a 2021 Legacy Touring XT (basically Outback in sedan form). I hated that Driver Focus system. Way too many false alerts telling me to keep my eyes on the road. It wouldn't have been so bad if it could have been permanently disabled, but to turn it off you had to go through 3 menus and it would enable itself at every start. It was maddening. I have a new Hyundai Tucson Limited and while it does have a driver attention feature too it can be permanently turned off. Long story short, I would never buy a Subaru with it again.
Never had such an experience with eyesight on my 2019. In fact as a senior citizen I appreciate that it helps me out when I need it.
@@ornative7514 Well, if you enjoy the feature I imagine you wouldn't have an issue with it. I don't like a camera constantly watching me and flashing a message and an audible beep when it thinks I'm not watching the road, even when I am. It's irritating and I don't need it. If I had the choice to permanently turn it off that would be fine (like my Tucson), but Subaru thinks the know better than the individual driver.
@@jeffmorse645 Do you have the 2024 Tucson Limited? I have a 2023 Tucson Limited and I do not have any driver attention feature. Do you miss the extra power of the turbo that the Legacy Touring XT has? I had an Outback 3.6r Touring before the Tucson and that was a very comfortable vehicle yet I like my Tucson more.
@@AJSparacio413 I have 2023 Limited and it does have some sort of driver attention system. I turned it off almost immediately so I'm not sure exactly what its warnings might be. Yeah, I do miss the power of the XT, but it had terrible driveability. 260 HP turbo shouldn't be paired with a CVT. It constantly jerked, hesitated and surged unless I drove it with a very gentle throttle. A friend drove it and he noticed the jerky throttle right away. The dealer said there was nothing wrong and there were no software updates to address it. After 2 1/2 years I needed a crossover and I really like my Tucson. It has almost every feature the Subaru did and behaves much better in city traffic.
I misread your concern - the driver focus system. I don't have that & agree with you that it would be a irritating distraction. My error, sorry.
First like and comment!
Just get a dark color, as Subaru didn't spring for new molds and is still attaching that butt-ugly fender cladding, always in black.
Is it leaking oil or transmission fluid at 2:23?
Condensation from the air conditioner
Nope, just AC water, normal for every car
Nope. Water. Sorry to ruin your expectation....
Subaru, if you are reading this: drop both engines and bring your new 1.8 turbo to the US. It would be a perfect 'middle ground' and simplify your supply chain.
Wish the Outback had more front hip room. 55.5 is not enough...for me.
Maybe you should buy a F-150?
Gas filler is on the wrong side for safety, needs to be on the driver's side.
It is in RHD countries like Japan, UK and Australia. This could be because it’s a Japanese design with some markets like Australia supplied with Japanese built cars.
You're wrong. For safety reasons (though I don't care), the gas filler is installed on the LEFT side.
I am exposing Toyota for false representation. The Toyota connect system is only a very expensive radio if you don’t own a cell phone or when you are out of cell service zone.
I hate that cladding that curls up and under the headlights. Looks cheap.
And yet so many other SUVs & crossovers are COPYING Subaru by putting more & more plastic cladding on their vehicles. Imagine that!
Good regular 4 cylinder engine, I’m not so sure about the CVT transmission. Consumer reports claims not reliable CVT
NO, you are wrong. They DO NOT claim that at all. Stick with the truth, Carlos.
This would have been realy nice and modern if it was year 2005.....🙂
I agree!! but who is buying these ugly cars!!! lol
@@jsundberg5542 My guess is that people who want a permanent AWD, above average ground clearance, can take the whole family (and a dog) almost anywhere, it doesn't cost a fortune to buy and maintain, legendary safety record. And it's very reliable.
Bottom line - people who couldn't care less about the look. They want an actual car.
Is this an old people car?
No
Are you for real? Troll much?
Hey Subaru, stop lingering in the past it’s 2024 please get rid of that hood prop
You'd be surprised as to how many other cars use a hood prop. I'd like a hydraulic strut holding up my hood, too, but there's other cars that surprisingly still use a prop rod.
What's new? Practically nothing!
great review boring car. they need a big refresh and more powerful engine. Subaru = national parks = NO HYBRID
No, it's not boring (obviously you've never driven a new Outback), and they DO have a a more powerful engine.
Nothing new, so boring......
So go play with your toys!
Decade old engine and transmission
Overpriced
Very slow infotainment system
Routine maintenance is very expensive
Good resale value
Better than its competitors as well!
Why are you spreading these lies?
Lesbians: *heavy breathing
The Subaru outback is for everybody, not just lesbians.
A thirsty, weak, dated engine is the killer problem. Then add in general tired handing and lacking performance and this doesn't attract customers..
Subaru need a fully refreshed model with much ,much better economy and at least 50% more power than the present version.
Wow.... so much BS in your comments.... where to start....
subarus cars look so dated!!! old people looking cars. God I hope thar doesn't come back to bite me
It will. Dumb statement.
It’s the same looking car it’s been for years. It’s tired looking it needs a refresh.
I have a 2014 Outback. I love this car! However, ten years later with the bullshit screen and total lack of innovation in ten years, I’m seriously considering a Lexus. NOT HAPPY SUBARU!
