  • Today we repot some of the cutest miniature Orchids ever, the Aerangis Orchids!
    🦋 More info below! 🦋
    Aerangis Orchids are some of the most popular miniature Orchids in every serious enthusiast collection and they are worth their tiny space! They can produce superb, long sprays of white flowers which are often fragrant at night!
    It was time I remade my old collection of Aerangis and I'm not stopping here.. they just fit on any shelf! The more the merrier 😂 the IKEA spice jar was a blooper, but what's the point of hiding it? might as well have a laugh!

    All the Orchids in this video are quite common and findable at Orchid nurseries, just google for one in your country, city, or economic region! Though prices vary from territory to territory, checking multiple sources will give you an idea of the typical prices in your area, so you'll avoid overpriced sources! Careful with internet hype, be an informed buyer and you'll save money! 🧡

    I keep telling my friends that I am getting an on line degree in Orchids from the University of Danni. Your sense of adventure with your experimental nature is what keeps me coming back.

    While I can't be 100% sure, as a student of latin, aerangis (if singular) is most likely a 3rd declension noun, and would be aeranges (with a long e) in plural if the gender is male/female, and aerangia if the gender is neutral :) hope that helps

    I had some aerangis seedlings that were doing great until summer came. They loved my intermediate temperatures indoors but hated being put outside. Oh well, you live and learn. They seem to prefer stable more cool temperatures and drier conditions than I expected.

    They are beautiful. Looking forward to seeing them in bloom. Miniature orchids are cute but not sure if I would want to grow them. Maybe in the future at some point my mind may change. Have a great day and enjoy these orchids.

    I did like the little glass bowl, I may need to find a mini orchid and do that myself :) Thanks for sharing the trial and "error" not really an error ;)

    I was just thinking about miniture orchids the other day and here you are reading my mind😍, do mini orchids grow great in a wabi kusa/kusamono set up? There miniature features are perfect for scaping. Thank you Danny for sharing 😊

    I love aerangis orchids! I got my mystacidii and my somalensis from the same nursery as you got your somalensis on. My mystacidii and other aerangis species lean from their mount and the somalensis grows upwards on the mount indeed 😊
    I am gonna keep mine on a mount, i can keep way more orchids that way 😁

    Cute idea, Dani! Do u have any idea where I could get the plastic pots u slip your orchids into or just the saucers? I decided to get rid of my old tray & pebbles & just put the orchids on the racks. But, I need something to catch the drainage & not get knocked over! Thanks so much..

    Hey Dani! How are you? I hope you are alright! I have a question, why is this thing on having shorter videos I personally like longer videos. I remember yesterday I was watching some stuff on Netflix but then I switched to missorchidgirl haha (on CZcams of course). So yeah I like longer videos. On topic: I would suggest trying trying that leaning thing pot with a phalenopsis of course in a bigger pot. BTW love the video you are awesome!

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  Před 4 lety +5

      Hi, haha well the length of my videos is not predetermined... I film what I film and the result is what happens to come out of my editing software 😂 no worries, Friday it's orchids in bloom time and those videos cannot be short 😜

    My mini orchid had gray mould on it. It only has one top-leaf left!? Can it survive? I reported the poor thing, cut off old roots etc. and I'm going to do my best to care for it. What are the signs that it's recovering?

    I actually liked the globe thing kind of, but I think it would look better if it was an opaque container instead of clear.

    When you burn the holes in you pots are they sharp inside? I made a pot with holes. When I finished I ran my finger around the inside. It was very sharp. I sanded them down with a piece of sandpaper. It worked. What do you do?

    I studied Latin and the plural of Aerangis should be Aeranges, since it's a substantive (=a noun) belonging to the third declination and it should be feminine, as the majority of plants' names in Latin. The English pronounciation of the two forms (singular and plural) should be really similar, while in Latin (and I guess Rumenian..?) the last "e" of the plural should sound like the "e" of the word "best"

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  Před 4 lety +1

      Lol in Romanian I think it would be Aerangii (read as ee).. but Aerange (e as in best) sounds legit too and both names would be feminine 😂 I'll say Aerangises for the sake of my English speakers hehe

    • @crestedargo4663
      @crestedargo4663 Před 4 lety

      @@MissOrchidGirl You're right, best thing is going with "Aerangises", so that it sounds better and it's more understandable for your English speakers!! Actually nouns of the second declesion in Latin (wich end in -us) form their plural with -i, so theoretically "Aerangius" would be "Aerangii" when plural.
      Wonderful channel, my Beallaras and Cattleyas (or Beallarae and Cattleyae in Latin..? 😂 ) are finally thriving and growing some flower spikes and it's all thanks to your videos!!
      Shoutout to @poples, who had also written about the plural of Aerangis more tha 15 hours ago; I hadn't seen the comment...
