All About The Raccoon Butterflyfish

- FINALLY! I got footage of the Raccoon Butterflyfish! This one has been on my wanted list for what seems like forever. A great fish for all experience levels in the hobby but they are know to nip at those corals so be careful what type of tank you place them into!

Hey Brock. Do these eat aiptasia? Trying to find a suitable tankmate for my tank and if they do it would work out perfectly.
Quite surprising how the same fish can look so different depending where in the world it’s caught. Where I live in South Africa raccoons are quite common but they look considerably different. Ours are flatter and a bit more elongated, almost a little bit more disk shaped if that makes sense. They also have an additional big black spot on their backs. Ours are so much prettier in my opinion.

What’s the fish with the orange color along the top to the back line of orange
Hi Brock I have a quick question for you if you don’t mind answering, I’ve watched majority of your videos and I am wanting to put a blue spot puffer a stripped dog face puffer a scribbled fox face and a powder brown tang in my 125 with a Indian mud moray I already have in the tank at the moment, would this work/is it a with caution kind of thing or a no don’t ever do this kind of thing
Those choices in that big of a tank should be able to coexist just fine. I would keep up with your water levels though, with those messy eaters, they can spike ammonia and nitrate pretty easily. Stay on top of those water changes and you should be fine!
@@BrockLeonard I’m running a over sized skimmer a 20 gallon refugium and a 18 watt uv with 4 sponge filters rated for 30 gallons each in the sump also sporting 110 pounds of live rock and 150 pounds of live sand and would you say probably a 20% once a week would be a good amount to change?
@@argygang4962 that is some solid filtration! Once a week is a lot in my opinion, you could probably go longer (2-4 weeks) before having to do a water change. Best way would be to test the water weekly as see how quickly the levels are rising.
@@BrockLeonard awesome, and another question for you, any recommendations on tank mates for maroon clownfish in a 47 column ? I’m gonna make it a reef tank but the clowns might be the only thigns in there or would a Indian mud moray be good with maroon clownfish?

@@Morpheus_input ye it’s a male spotbreast or swallowtail angel Genicanthus melanospilos. You can tell it’s not a Wantanabei bc it has vertical tiger like stripes not horizontal

Why do I see this in a *reef tank* if this is not reef safe?
Butterflies can be stingy to eat the food you give so putting them with corals allows them to eat those while they adjust to eating your food. At a massive aquarium like this, it’s nothing for them to just replace a coral later on. Just letting the ecosystem do its thing!

@@BrockLeonard That Butterfly Fish got its name because of the black mask with a white stripe on top which resembles a raccoon mask, Hence the name, Raccoon Butterfly Fish.
Butterfly Fish and Angelfish are closely related to each other, what characteristic distinguishes these two relatives is no other but the gill spine, which is found on any species of Angelfish.
