  • Slipknot "The Nameless" reaction. Guys. This song. Usually, I'm not ready, but let's just say, this time, you are not ready. (I wasn't either, just to be clear.) Fun fact: today's video marks my first jaw drop on this channel. Leave it to Corey Freaking Taylor. Fun fact #2: this song contains my favorite transition in any Slipknot song I've heard thus far---to my recollection. Thanks to: Bowhunter 4550, Jumpy, Scout Fortress Art.

    Because of this addition to my Slipknot playlist, some adjustments are required. Top 5 are pretty solid now, but the rest are all a blur and change video to video.
    1) Snuff the Magic Corey
    2) Nero Play-it-again Forte
    3) Vermilion Pt. Obsession
    4) Sympathy for the Devil in I
    5) Unsainted to Save My Soul
    6) This. Freaking. Song. I can't even deal with it.
    7) Colin Firth is Pissed
    8) Little Orphan Annie Taylor (can't think of a new title since last time)
    9) Dual POV, Both with Fingers Stuck in Eyes

    --Hailed as the first modern psychological thriller, The Collector is the internationally bestselling novel that catapulted John Fowles into the front rank of contemporary novelists. The second from the left is Paul Gray. He was the bass player for Slipknot from 1994 to 2008. He died in 2010 to an overdose on a cocktail of powerful drugs. There are many Slipknot songs that either mention Paul, or are entirely about him. The song Goodbye that I have been suggesting is a Goodbye to Paul. The song Skeptic is about Paul. The man was a great friend to Corey, Shawn and the rest of the band from early on and their grief over him was a big deal. R.I.P. Paul.

    Idk if anyone has answered this yet, but Corey's voice sounds different on this album because he was literally just screaming on the first two records, and on this one he actually started taking lessons.
    He also said in an interview he was "just trying something new because I like to change things", which I think is partially true, but he also got sober while recording vol 3.
    So you can imagine how much pain his throat was in being 100% awake and aware all the time. I feel like he landed on this scream because it was the only technique that didn't hurt his vocal chords while he was recovering from the first two albums/tours.

    • @FlyboyHelosim
      @FlyboyHelosim Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah and another point of note is that there's virtually no swearing on the album, as the band wanted to prove people wrong who said that they were incapable of making an album without excessive profanity... and this was obviously coming straight off the back of Iowa which is full of harsh language and delivery.

  • @LordSpongy
    @LordSpongy Před 3 lety +11

    Corey Taylor stopped smoking in the last couple albums. A big enhancment to his voice control and sound. He was screaming his throat bloody on Iowa. Hell he was cutting himself with glass during songs in Iowa. Dude is taking MUCH better care of himself right now. :D Chris Fehn (long nose, not in the band anymore) Also did backup vocals on a lot of songs, so you may be hearing him as the second voice layered onto Corey's voice in affects.

    I know we already confirmed this in the last comment section but yes you are right about The Sid part, he is up front and center in this song scratching and using the xylophone sound which is a kinda sample he uses. As for the meaning you are pretty spot on, it’s really entertaining to watch you squirm sometimes as you try to figure out the lyrics lol but you always do a great job of piecing the puzzles together. As far as being trapped by a stalker and dark lyrics this song is good and all but I challenge you to make a poll and put The song Purity on it. Purity is about an incident in Iowa where a guy kidnapped a girl I think in the 80’s and kept her in a box. It’s off their first album but like this song it’s angry Corey and then soft Corey but with a darker twist. The song was banned and taken off the album and Slipknot had to go to court to defend the lyrics. Eventually Slipknot won and decided to make it a bonus track. I’m just sayin you would love it. Anyways thank you for this song! It’s one of my favorites. PS: Corey blew is voice out last album so he needed to take a break from Psycho Corey. This album is like a vocal experiment that threw a lot of people off. Some of the more hardcore fans did not take kindly to this album but it grew on a lot of them eventually. Sometimes Coreys genius needs to Marinade for a while.

(Download is a music festival in England somewhere if you didn’t know) The reason this one is so HEAVILY requested is the showmanship of it all. (LOTS OF CURSING outside of just the lyrics) Corey’s command over the crowd (70,000+ people) Joey GOES OFF on the drums, the crowd is insane, Jim and Mick go heavy, Clown and Pinocchio as well. There's some comments here about how he blew his voice after Iowa tour, but what he does in this album is what's known as vocal frying. Corey is literally frying his vocals doing this which is why it sounds so angry. This album is what really blew his vocals so after the album he hired a vocal coach to learn to do healthier screams which is why he sounds so different now. It's because he literally changed how he does vocals completely. It's not as aggressive but at least he can still produce a sound out his voice.

    The reason that Corey sounds different on this album is due to improper screaming techniques on the self-titled and Iowa albums, and severe alcoholism. He completely blew out his voice in late 2002/early 2003 while on tour with Stone Sour. His alcoholism was so bad that he was waking up with a bottle of Jack and passing out at night with a bottle, which led to him almost jumping off a balcony. For Vol. 3 he was newly sober and essentially had to relearn how to scream again.

  • @maximilianoalexander9924

    I will get very 🤓 and technical about the singing because well I'm a singer and corey is my favorite singer of all time right next to chester Bennington and Chris Cornell so now if you stayed that's because you are interested: Corey's voice in this album sound different indeed and that's because this is right after iowa. Self-titled and iowa tours destroyed Corey's vocals because he was using a very weird "technique" and that is basically screaming as hard as he could. When you scream that hard your false cords activate automatically, this is not a voluntary thing it is a reflex so you can't really control it and you need an absurd amount of diaphragm strength to make a whole show and even more stamina. This along with corey jumping and running during performances made his false cords to give up the pressure and that damaged his voice, that's why his screams are so raw, because they're just raw screams. During vol.3 he realized what he was doing to his voice so he changed that to another technique that is basically the same but now it uses fry scream, that's why he sound way higher and he could do way longer screams, this technique is very silent but it isn't as abrasive to his voice as the last one. Years after he went to full false chord during AHIG and during .5 he struggled to make the screams so he took vocal classes and quitted smoking which is always a good thing. Finally nowadays he uses a mixed voice between fry and false chord but perfectly applied and safe this time.
    If somebody read all of this just be aware that I love you and I thank you so much for reading ❤

    Hi! Ok first of all quit apologizing for how you do your reactions! If we don't like it we can go somewhere else. You're doing great! If it's a recorded song everything you hear is Corey Taylor sometimes live the band helps out on the vocals. You should definitely do a reaction to Spit It Out live at download! Thanks for doing these!

    I was waiting for this one.
    Theres a lot to say, If I miss anything I'll put a reply under this comment.
    Where to start..
    I did warn about the subject matter. It is definitely a weird one, I totally understand that. I only requested it because of the way the song is composed. I usually don't listen for the lyrics really, I'm not much of a lyrical analysist.
    The vocals in the Official Audio are all Corey, but in their live performances, it's Corey and Chris (Pinnochio). He really ruined his voice in Vol.3 (3 Years after their most brutal album, Iowa), that's why he sounds totally different here.
    The Instrument work is what really makes it stand out. The switch-ups, the dialog-like vocals in the verses, and whatnot really give this song a personality of its own, even if it has a horrible topic, which quite a few songs tend to lack.
    The instruments. Yes, there's a lot going on. Of course you have Mick and Jim (the iconic duo) and their Bassist, Paul Gray, who sadly passed in 2010. There is some instances in the song where both the extra band members play, and I noticed you picked up on that. The scratches in the intro and pre-verses are indeed Sid. The weird additions like the screaming were sampled by Craig, I believe.
    Im glad you're keeping an open mind when listening to this. Most people would've been put off by songs like these ones in particular. You handled it well, is what I can say.
    Thank you for the reactions. Please don't stop doing them.
    I hope to see your take on Gematria (The Killing Name) soon.

Also for live shows i know spit it out 2009 is like a great thing but i like the kimmel and conan shows better ( the blister exists/ the heritic anthem) also custer live show or (im sorry) the iowa stuff with people=shit and disasterpiece from 2002 (i think).
