Paul Newman, Doc's voice actor, passed away shortly after the release of the first Cars film. So, instead of re-casting the VA for Doc, they had Doc pass away before Cars 2 as a sign of respect to Paul.
@@SophieLents I do kind of hate when the kill off characters though even if it is because the actor died sorry
@@kelsey1467 Doc was old and he had been in a terrible accident needing imtensive 'surgery' at retirement. It makes sense that he would die some time soon. Plus his legacy lived on with Lightning. Once that happened he may have had the peace to move on.

@@kelsey1467 well, if they do that good of a job, it’s disrespectful to recast them
A bunch of people don't like it, I love it because I love Mater,I agree 3 should have came out before this one...RIP Doc Hudson (both in movie and real life)
You are absolutely right Cars 3 should come before Cars 2 but the problem is, then the story line for Cars 2 will change
@@pringlessorted4644 true but they could've easily made it seem like McQueen raced Francesco just for fun after retirement if they truly wanted to make it work
@@marzh5278 Or McQueen shouldn't have retired and he should be selected for grand prix race
I compare it to The Karate Kid Trilogy? 1 & 3 were very similar and fit together well and 2 seemed like more of a departure and more independent! All good movies but maybe didn't flow as well possibly should have been rearranged in order.......?
I actually really like this movie. It’s got a more comedic vibe then the first one, and that’s ok. 😁
I really like it too. Underrated. Only because the problems that the film has doesn't bother me.
I generally like the movie. I DO think that the movie would've been better received as spin off Cars movie starring Mater (similar to Hobbs & Shaw) rather than a sequel to Cars (2006).
I don't usually comment on stuff like this but I feel compelled to agree and share my unpopular opinion. Because thing is, I actually like this one best, and didn't really love the third one. I think this one has a good message that people overlook, and I personally really like the soundtrack. Not saying it doesn't have flaws, though, every movie does. I don't hate the third, but I just found *her* to be somewhat annoying.
Fun Fact: Finn was originally going to appear in the first movie as an in-universe James Bond parody Lightning and Sally would see on a date
This one didn’t feel like a cars movie but it was entertaining lol
@@SophieLents 24:37
He is not in love!
He is just trying to get to his head like the jackass he is
Francesco having some sort of feelings for McQueen makes so much sense now. The obsession, the special attention, the talking and begging to be noticed. The jabs at dedicating his race to Sally, probably out of jealousy. His competitive spirit is probably his own denial for his feelings and viewpoint for McQueen.
Yeah, and he's that "Ciao McQueen" message on his back, similar to how some people in real life get tattoos of the name of their hero put on themselves.
Aah, good old days. Professor Z was my favourite - such intelligent and calculating villian with the ability to actually kill super agents (chew on that, censorship).
Cars 2 is hated too much,It's a intresting movie
@@wilsonmichael655 Literally nothing happens as you’re sitting through it. The plot is just spy exposition extended to over an hour.
For me it's my fav out of all 3
You either love cars 2 or you dislike it alot and don't watch it
So yeah it's one of those movies lol
I honestly love the spy plot. It's so cool how they adapted all the spy stuff like the disguises and the gadgets into the car "anatomy" (I guess that's the word), it might be a bit too violent for some but I love the darker elements.
"Am I really telling a car how to be gay?"
- Sophie Lents, 2021
That car isn't gay, that's just fucked up. It's supposed be to be Mcqueens rival, why can't she get that, god. lol
@Shinobi Prince I think she's making a joke when coming up with that. Besides it's a 2011 movie, so even if Pixar wanted to imply that he was gay, people wouldn't have been that accepting.
"Am I really trying to tell a car how to be gay?" Got me cracking 🤣🤣
There’s a series called Cars Toon that has all sorts of things including a talking rocket ship in the moon Mater episode
(It’s basically a bunch of adventures Mater “made up” overall you’d really like it, the episodes are short and you can probably watch them within an hour or so)
I think I read that the reason they started the series was to make it more understandable the no one would believe him
23:57 I'd probably liken it to scars. Sometimes people do use their scars as a "snapshot" of memories. I got this scar and that scar and those scars, during a lifetime of experiences. Have a scar on my knuckles from playing tag when I was in grade school, still remembered how it happened every time I see it.
Gotta say... As a mechanic... You are quite obsessed with death... and overthinking absolutely everything.
There was a big crash in 1st. That's called "sunday" in Nascar = 0 deaths. but Couple injurys we can agree on. We saw King, that had nasty accident. and Doc Hudson has nasty accident in his history. Both very much alive.
Deathtoll 0
On Cars 2, Yeah 1 car dropped in ocean, We can agree death. the 1st spy car that was crushed to cube... That's another.
Blowing up the oilbarrels on the oilrig, That's a lot of fire, and smoke and agree few shrapnels from the barrels, Possible death to all yes... But more likely just bit scorched paint, and couple dents. and flat tires.
And then there is the Camera/weapon.
Combine the car using certain fuel, and using that "camera" weapon... That's blown engine. But even that is repairable. relatively easily even.
(as I'm watching now, we are on race 1, and I dont remember this movie that well, but I remember that at least 1 is near end.) Athuogh, we can agree that the "american spy" has passed away. so death toll 4 at most.
So in this movie series so far we have mass murder of... 4 vehicles of some description across 2 installments...
Seriously... This goes so far that bumping a stranger in subway... you would call it murder.
And Maters densts are not "deep cuts" They are "scars" which remind him of things he has done.
I have a small scar myself that reminds me of good times... which ended up hurting a bit, but nevertheless I had fun. I ain't getting no plastic surgery to remove it.
Trust me, the third one is SOOOOO much better than this one. It focuses back onto racing and actually gives Lightning a proper character arc like in the first one. It’s a pretty great ending too and definitely the most emotionally resonant of the trilogy
@@rickygforce4217 no he/she is right. The 2nd one is the best one and the 3rd one was so bland and boring
If this had been a standalone movie, I think it would’ve gotten a better response from people. It feels like a stand-alone movie and not a sequel. That along with the very odd spy plot line that made little sense for half of the movie and unnecessary violence is what turned me away from it as a kid.
Unnecessaey violence ??? DUDE ITS A FRICKIN SPY MOVIF NOT THE TELETUBBIES
cars 1: perfect, masterpiece, 10/10
cars 2: good for a fun watch, not for serious story moments, 6/10
cars 3: also a fun watch, but takes it's story more seriously than the second movie, 8/10
For me this is my favorite out of the 3 movies, cause tow mater is my favorite duh but because it is revolves around mater and I like it’s different but for people who don’t like this one you have the first and the third get over it 🤣
Francesco is probably the funniest car i ever seen in cars trilogy. In my home language (italian) Francesco is voice by an italian comic actor from Naples, his name is Alessandro Siani
I Love this movie because is different, despite being a sequel, Cars 2 has its "own" personality is not simply a "copy" of the first movie with some new characters, I really liked the story and has more humor another positive point that differentiates it from the first
9:04 That whole shot looks so realistic! I wouldn’t have expected it to look that good in a 2011 animated film.
I really enjoyed this film as a kid, and I still do because it stuck the landing of the friendship lesson McQueen was taught in the first movie and that's all it needed to do.
Fun fact! That crab boat at the beginning of the movie that Finn takes is based on the Deadliest Catch star FV Northwestern and is even voiced by her skipper, Sig Hansen!
Cars 2 is my personal favorite of the trilogy
i love this movie mainly because it expands the cars universe.. i collect disney cars diecasts from mattel and this movie created so many opportunities which is awesome. even then i still love this movie. it had absolutely no place in this franchise but it was definitely entertaining as a kid.
I like Cars 2, but I fell in love with this franchise for the racing, not so much the spy stuff they went for here. Also, WHY DOES THIS MOVIE HAVE A BODY COUNT?
Fun fact: Finn McMissile’s design is based of James Bond’s car design. And Finn is probably inspired by James Bond(idk)
Sophie your channel is great! I love your opinions on Cars. You seem really mature and polite! It's amazing seeing someone my age reacting to the movies of our childhood and keeping the candle of nostalgia alive!
Dude, this was my favorite of them all 😦,,, ,
I didn't know people didn't like it
i looove that they had eddie izzard casted in this as miles axlerod. he's one of my favorite comedians
I admit sometimes when he is mad he can be irrational and insulting but I think what happened in the pits wasn't what you thought it was when Lightning Queen " Imaginary girlfriends" he didn't mean it like that he really thought he made her up because after he got out of the bathroom and caught up with his friends and asked what a rendezvous was Luigi clarified that it's like a date and Mater thought that Harley was asking him out on a date so he really did believe he had a girlfriend.
As someone who has never watched the first movie, I loved this one as a kid, it's a shame people hates it so much.
I like some aspects of this film, I don’t really like the spy story lines which is most of the story but if it was more concentrated on the race and the fuel and it would be pretty good but the spy stuff just takes it to an odd area
I love this movie!!! :-D The reason this was a spy movie was that the director of this movie really loves James Bond and spy movies. Miles Axelrod's motive was that he was the owner that massive oil rig in the ocean and he thought that alternative fuels would destroy his business. So he created a dangerous fuel disguised as an alternative fuel that would set to explode by an electro magnetic pulse camera. If alternative fuels were considered dangerous, then everyone would buy his fuel. So he and the lemons could make an insane amount of money. :-)
The only reason why you often get lost on the plot its because you speak without finishing to hear the dialogs
I'm in the minority that this movie is decent, like I know cars is a racing and this is completely different by it being a spy movie, but I enjoyed it. It's legit Star Wars The Last Jedi (Based on how different it feel with the rest of the trilogy), but actually entertaining
I like these movies. Every movie you watch im just like "...and now I pause my life and watch a move with Sophie."
All The cars movies are legendary
Fun Fact: Finn McMissile is played by Michael Caine, otherwise known as Alfred

I liked it very much as a kis when it came out. I still prefer the first and third one, but the second one is cool too.
I'm looking forward for you to see the last one of this franchise :D
i liked tihs one more than the first one honestly (maybe because i watched this when i was a kid)
the first one is great tho
This movie is my guilty pleasure- i watch it a lot when i feel down and its very nostalgic for me bc when i was a kid we had only 1 cd of it and it was extremely bad quality so i never got to see the end properly until some years later
The Airport chase scene was my absolute favorite scene in this sequel!
This is such a underrated movie I love it
I didn't know that people didn't like Cars 2 until recently, I honestly LOVED (and still love) it. Obviously it's not like the first Cars movie (which imo is a classic animated film), but it's iconic in its own way, and I love that it's basically a spy movie.
I love these videos of you watching these movies. I love the Cars franchise and its enjoyable to basically watch the movie with someone new!
I love this movie I think this is better than the first and the third is better than the second that’s how I wanna feel while watching a trilogy. I get that a spy movie is out of place but I don’t mind. It’s like a behind the scenes thing. We could have just seen McQueen raceing the world but the fact that we got a look into what stuff tow Mater gets into I enjoyed it. The reason for the “deaths” and the bad guy was supposed to be confusing and hard to figure out. I like the whole thing where the bad guy was praising allinol just to try to expose it and make it look bad so they could go back to normal oil.
Yes they were makeing fun of mater and pointing out how different he was the spy’s not he was the spy and he was undercover but when fin explained it even mater realized how over the top he was and straightened up and acted kinda serious but still was the mater we all loved to see.
To me, the best parts of the Cars 2 is honestly the racing scenes.
Your reaction to 'Cars 2' was EXACTLY my reaction to this movie. Lol!

I for some reason just love watching your content ❤️
The code wasn't easily guessable, Mater just knows every car.
I agree it's important to be yourself. It's also equally important to be self-aware and to recognize that you might need to change.
Fun fact:
One of the race cars is named Lewis Hamilton and he is voiced by Lewis Hamilton (7-time Formula 1 world champion, and currently fighting for his 8th title).
I just looked that up, because I thought the voice of one character (12:15) sounded familiar, and I was not disappointed.
As a Formula 1 fan since birth, I love these easter eggs (also the voice of Francesco's engine is like a massive nostalgia for me). I think Sebastian Vettel also voiced someone in the German and Italian dub of this movie, although I'm not sure who.
But to be honest, n my eyes, nothing can top the end of the first movie with the appearance of the Ferrari voiced by Michael Schumacher.
I understand people not liking, but holy shit have I loved this movie ever since it came out, its so fucking fun
The reason Doc Hudson was written out of Cars 2 was because his voice actor Paul Newman passed away in 2008, two years after Cars. It was his last feature film credit before he died.
In case you are still confused as to why Finn insulted Mater, he was thinking that Matter is an undercover spy, bacause of the stuff the the other car put on mater. Finn thought that the tow truck was his disguise, and the stupid things that matter did were seen as amazing acting by Finn. That's why he complimented him by saying "apply the same level of dedication you did to play the idiot tow truck". Mater misinterpreted it as Finn insulting him
can’t wait to see your reaction to cars 3
Cars 2 was nixed out of the franchise after the backlash it got, which is honestly sort of sad for the people who honestly liked this film. I guess that’s what happens when Pixar doesn’t get good reception, but for that system to happen in a sequel completely screws the franchise.
Watching all 3 of them back to back to back as so weird 😂. They’re all solid movies in their own right tho

If you want to see a rocket, it’s not a movie more like a short. Well, there are many shorts where Mater says he’s a detective, hot rod, etc. he was even an astronaut and he rode on the rocket named Roger.
4:20 I’m sure you figured out that the camera didn’t do that. What happened to Leland turbo was that he got caught and put through a trash compactor.
New sub I enjoy these types of vids
Who's complaining about it? It is the best of the Cars/Planes franchise. It isn't too long either.
About your theory in the beginning of the movie, that what we see here is our future: There is actually a video about this subject on the CZcams channel "Film Theories" called "The cars in Cars aren't cars". It may seem like a stretch, but everything they say sounds very plausible at the very least. If you wanna check it out, wait until you saw Cars 3, it talks about that too a bit.
I don't think this movie is garbage, per se.
The thing that really makes it sub-par, when compared with the first one, is that it "ditched" the classic Pixar element that tends to deal with emotional lessons, things that the characters learn. The "morals", the "wholesomness" if you like to call it that.. in favor for a much more "shallow fun" kinda feeling.
Wich is really a shame, if you think about it. The whole "cars that were designed flawed" alongside the whole "Mater will be central in this" could have had quite some potential waaaaay besides the whole over the top (and somewhat unnecessary) secret agent stuff
It doesn't necessarily mean I consider it to be bad, though. I had fun watching it, but yeah.. it was definetely sub-par in the Cars franchise and possibly in the majority of the Pixar movies. This is probably why it gets so much hate: because we have come to hold Pixar in a very high standard, and we all felt that this simply wasn't making the cut compared to the majority of their products.
EDIT: Also, well... it doesn't look very good when a movie vilifies the guy who actively advocates for clean renewable form of energy, electric cars etc. Like... Yeah, the real villains want to profit out of the oil, but also the guy who represents the only real positive message about clean energy is the ultimate terrorist bad guy...
The message is just all over the place, sloppy, and it doesn't make any sense.
Wasen't the whole point that the villain found more oil and qanted to make alternative fuel look bad so he could get even richer. So your analogy is flawd.
@@samuelclayhills3298 You are right: my analogy IS flawed because the whole point of the movie was flawed and made no sense XD So yeah, the ultimate evil is the corporate greediness, but at the same time Axelrod was the only character that (for most of the movie) spoke towards renawable forms of energy in a 'positive' way.
So what happens at the end of the movie? Well-meaning cars like MacQueen just go back to regular oil, I assume. And the other race cars that used it, exploded during the races XD
What's the final message of the movie? Is renewable good? is oil good? Let's just not think about it and focus on Mater's rockets?
THAT is the point I'm trying to make. Not trying to say this is good, this is bad: only that whatever 'message' the movie tried to make, it just didn't make any sense in the end.
"SPY-derman car" I see what u did there!
Can be a surprise for u but... Director of Pixar said that this films aren't made for kids!
