  • A summary of a painting lesson about abstract painting. We look shortly at the artwork of the American artist Norman Bluhm. Examples of paintings made at my painting course and I also show how I work. Enjoy.
    The video about the artwork on the wall behind me: • No idea what to paint?...
    Materials
    The art materials I use in the videos are not sponsored.
    I prefer to work on multi-purpose paper, more info in this video: • How to choose the RIGH...
    In almost all my videos I use with Winsor&Newton Galeria acrylics, if not, I will say so in the video.
    Other materials I use are in random order: 5, 10 and 40mm brushes, palette knives, acrylics medium, Ecoline liquid watercolor, Lyra color pencils, Lyra soft pastels, oil pastels, Stabilo color pencils, paper palette pad and basic masking tape. I also use household items like a permanent marker, scrub sponge, scissors, paper towel, and so on.

    This is a nice video Albert. I'm always impressed by you open-minded ideas. They result in very free feeling work. You could see after your students first try at painting with the plastic pilliows, that they had gained confidence. The second set of paintings was noticably improved. The third set of work was even more developed. You are very inspirational.

      Hi Gordon, thanks. I'm glad to hear you noticed the improvement in the different sessions. Feeling free to do whatever is such a blessing, I'm glad the went for it. Albert
      PS thanks for suggesting to look at Norman Bluhm.

    I grew up in a very abusive environment. My brain was typically in a hyper-vigilant state. I sometimes feel like I never developed an imagination. I am very inspired by your ability to create a story about your lines and marks! Thank you!!!

    Greetings Albert. I can't but tip my hat to your ability to simplify and open horizons some of the other art instructors seem oblivious to. I really admired both the approach and the "tools" that you introduced. The openness of your approach to embrace the child within and encourage us to do the same makes all the difference. Thanks so much for the effort you put into producing this precious video clip and for sharing your ideas and talents with us.

      Thanks Salim, I just like to play and this is what comes out when I do. But there is also the part I want to emphasize: it's all about you and not the tools. Believe in yourself and start creating. Have a good week, Albert

    so wonderful!!.. your ‘fighting red’ reminded me of art classes i did with little kids.. they were amazingly free in abstract creations, but sometimes they wanted something ‘concrete’ and they were not able to draw/paint it.. so we were always looking, after ‘abstract part’ of their projects were done, what we can find.. and we found a lots and all sorts of things! :)).. but we didn’t end there, we cut them up and made beautiful and funny collages.. i also loved your mentioning of ‘to know when to end’.. your videos are very nice, helpful, inspirational and always bringing very good vibes 😎

    • @ImperfectPaintings
      @ImperfectPaintings  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Paneko, thanks for sharing. It's so nice to read about the kids. It was my reason too to dive into abstract (lacking skills). But I found out that there is so much to know, learn and discover in abstract, so I just stayed in that corner of the art world. Have a great week, Albert

    I always enjoy seeing your videos that are inspiring. They are always worth trying. I wasn't familiar with Bluhm, but there are other artist in that style: Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Ritcher, etc. It would be interesting to take that further and try and make a landscape or portrait using that technique.

    • @ImperfectPaintings
      @ImperfectPaintings  Před 2 lety

      Hi Culture Fan, thanks, it was fun playing like this. Next time we do something different. Yes, Bluhm is interesting, just as a lot of others. It depends who I take based on what I think fits the exercise best, but I'm always open for suggestions. Albert

    Hallo from Canada, Albert! I am thinking about the salvaged plastic from your work place. We have a volunteer driven art community in our city called ArtJunktion, where industry, or lay people, can donate any scrap materials (free of charge) that could be used for any form of art. Artists can collect these materials, also free of charge. Your plastic is a perfect example of a great donation. Many art teachers scour about for usable materials for their art classes. It is meant as a diversion of garbage to the land fill, and ultimately some of it ends up their anyways, it has a creative life in the interim.

    • @ImperfectPaintings
      @ImperfectPaintings  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Pat, thanks for sharing this wonderful way of working overthere. I try to open peoples mind and eyes that 'art' isn't defined by official paint and the perfect expensive brush. Art can be anything and made with anything. Creativity is a state of mind and what you can make is only limited by your imagination. Life is wonderful, just join and get hooked. It's so much fun to find like-minded people. Have a wonderful day, Albert

    People always ask me, "But What IS it?" ... i tell them i have painted "nothing"; it simply is what they see.
