Crazy how the main character was just one of the developers who did performance capture because they had no budget.
It's not crazy that they would look internally to save money/time. It's just crazy that they had this gal of such latent talent.

Because it's a fixed camera.... You are basically seeing motion capture...there are actors who did that and motion capped the faces. Nothing special. It looks like a cutscene because it is.

It's mostly cutscene don't let them fool you. The game will play itself mostly with basic puzzles. Easy parry and dodge mechanics. It's basic story driven game.

Wow the graphics leap looks huge.
The ambient occlusion on Senua’s face/eyes alone is massively improved, which is deceptively huge in a game with so many closeups. Probably one of the biggest pushes out of the uncanny valley for in-game footage

That being said, some games aren't as bad as others at 30 FPS. This game looks like it won't be that bad at 30 FPS. It is a cinematic game with few camera panning moments

I'm still baffled how a short point a to point b linear corridor experience that requires dynamic resolution to maintain / reach 30fps took about half a decade of development
A lot of mo cap. Covid happened and Dev’s were not able to use mo cap for a third of development. Also it’s ue5 and the best visual looking game this gen.
Small studio, COVID, and they're pushing the visuals and animations as far as they can.

So, this game started development seven ears ago, yet it took inspiration from The Northman that released two years ago. The production seems very abstract.
So far the only Xbox game that I’ve been interested in playing. Disappointed it’s not running at 60FPS. Looks fantastic otherwise.

@@Marshmallow-ht8me nope, it’s also playable at 60fps with shittier graphics. This game is pushing UE5 to the limit. No console can run this at more than 30fps. Since FF7 on quality looks worse than this and runs at 30fps. We don’t know if this game will have a performance mode, most likely it won’t since graphic fidelity is one of the sellling points, but we do not have the technology on consoles to run these graphics at 60fps. Maybe on PC we do, and the game will be available there too.

If FF7 was running on UE5 and was a linear, corridor walking sim then yeah I’m sure FF7 would look out of this world. The standard for XSX was 60fps according to your lord and savior Aaron Greenberg.
