A brand new collaboration featuring two world class virtuosos, a meeting of harp and kora. Leading classical harpist Catrin Finch and inspired kora player Seckou Keita combine forces to explore the traditions of Wales and Senegal. Both nations share a centuries old bardic-griot tradition of intricate oral history expressed through music, song and verse. The harp and the kora, instruments from the same family, occupy a vital place in these rich cultures. Catrin and Seckou dig deep into Manding and Celtic roots whilst adding a fresh sound of their own. This is something special!

So soothing to the ear that it even snatched my soul. Beautiful indeed.
These two will be together in concert in Norway in July, then Germany and Shrewsbury in UK in late August. I'm really looking forward to seeing Seckou Keita at the Wyeside centre, Builth Wells on 15th May as part of his little Welsh tour.
This is great. Keita has expanded the range of the kora with additional strings & tunings (& amplification) to make it more than the traditional folk-music instrument, while Finch's experimental (or improvisation) leanings are better evidenced, I think, in this kind of duo setting than in her small jazz-combo line-ups like Crossing the Stone. This is somewhat akin to Rudiger Oppermann's Klangwelten folk harp duos, but somewhat more refined and perhaps uplifting & virtuoso-like as well.
