I just bought this watch yesterday. I picked it up for $550. It is a perfect fit. I love the looks of it. The fit and finish is amazing. The wife and I went into a shop, and I had planned on buying this watch. My wife found a Seiko 5 mechanical auto field watch at 36mm that she loved, and purchased. It was a win/win for both of us. She felt her dad approved of our choices. Her dad was a watch repairman at Osterman Jewelry in Ohio wayyyy back when. Thanks for the great video. 👍🏻
A good fix for the clasp having only two micro-adjustment holes is Uncle Seiko's clasp for this bracelet. I bought one for my SSC819. It's comparable in quality and aesthetics to the Seiko clasp but has a third micro-adjustment hole. It made it possible for me to find the perfect fit.
Great review. i went ahead and bought the ice blue version yesterday. it is really pretty but during dawn and evening the legibility of the whitish hour marker against the light dial was not legible. i ended up exchanging today for the pepsi version which is much more legible. the fit and finish is really good and worth the money - solar, sapphire, fuel gauge, milled bracelet. looks and feels excellent quality!
This version looks way better than the smaller versions to me. The proportions are much nicer and the design is more appealing. I’d go for a quartz/mecha-quartz chronograph around this price point over a mechanical one. WAY cheaper to service. This is a home run and like all Seikos, wait and shop around to get one way under retail.
I love my 39mm panda-style Speedtimer. The size is perfect for my wrist and I often get complements on it. It’s great that Seiko offers different case sizes. I’m a big Seiko fan and own a few watches. They make well-designed and well-made watches at an excellent value and you can’t go wrong with them.
Just purchased the ssc915 love the look of the watch but not a fan of the bracelet, it’s either too tight or too loose and keeps grabbing arm hair, do you know if aftermarket bracelets for the 813 will fit this one as well?
Got the Coke version at Christmas and love it. Bounce back and forth between this and my Apple Watch Ultra -- and every time I put it on, I don't know why I wear the Apple. Outstanding watch for the price.
Excellent review, Teddy! Are you also going to review the new "Hundredth of a second" Speedtimer? (SFJ001, 03 05 and 07) Greetings from a happyy owner of a 39mm SSC813P1 Speedtimer!
I felt the 39mm looked too small on my wrist. I went with the 41mm. I prefer the red hands and the reshaped minute/hour hands…and the upgraded lume indices.
I recently bought the 39mm Speedtimer after much deliberation for daily wear and it's also my first watch purchase! Dutifully keeping it clean but unfortunately, the clasp is prone to scratches. In the very near future, I will be buying a leather strap to complement the panda dial as well. It's a beautiful watch by all standards in my opinion.
If this had their mechaquartz flyback movement that you can get in cheap Pagani Design watches, this would be a grand slam. It's still a Seiko stunner.
Honestly, those Pagani watches made me question a lot of things when it comes to watches, i would rather have a Pagani chrono than a seiko just for the VK63/67 movement (although i own Seiko watches lol), but they really are just great, well built good looking cheap watches with great specs, it's just hard to beat.
Bought this in february and absolutely love it. Only thing I hate is date window, the date roll is too deep and it's hard to read. If you don't look at it directly from above, you can't read the date, big mistake. Otherwise worth every penny
Great review. I could really go for the larger diameter. But, after wearing chronos for the last 15 years, I realize I rarely used the chrono feature. Its wasted on me. In the last year I've switched over to divers.
@@namir91 I do. Expanding on my first comment, I would use the chrono if I thought to use it, which was about maybe once a year. But since switching to a diver, and I'm always cranking on the bezel (figitability thing), I use it once every couple days. Usually to time stuff on the grill. 👍🏻
I keep flip flopping between this particular model Seiko & either model of the 43.5mm black or Snoopy versions of the Bulova moon pilot. Having not actually owned a chrono I feel there is room in the collection for one. Thanks for the video. Still deciding.
It's tough in places like Alaska or even northern states like MN. 5pm looks like 5am in the winter, and a deep nap can often have you waking up confused 😂 but I hear you, just look at the phone.
I had this watch for some time and ended up parting ways. The fact that it retails for around $700 and has a generic bracelet that does not feel integrated to rest of the watch makes made me feel like Seiko had lost its way.
I have this watch and really like it, but the date is just stupid. It is unreadable without a microscope. The date is not only ridiculously small, it is also depressed below the dial further making it unreadable. Other than that, it wears great, looks sharp and the price is right (can get a decent discount).
It'll be a bummer if they don't make the new color / variation in the original 39mm size though.. I like this new look, but 41 is too big for me. they should keep this consisten
I like everything about these watches apart from the position of the date window, and that's the deal breaker for me. If Seiko can't be bothered to place the date window equidistant between the 4 and 5 markers, I wish they'd make a No Date version.
@@HandlewithcareVibes it's really the only reason I refused to buy this watch when I went to try it. But I refuse to pay Seiko for sloppy design or lack of attention to detail.

Its no perfect fit, but works fine. Note: anyone above 40, dont even try to look at the date window without ur glasses on.
I only have a handful of watches in my collection with my most expensive being about $400. But 700 seems like a lot for a SS quartz. At least it's solar and has a sapphire I guess.
This and the SSC813 are two of the prettiest looking watches on the market. Simple, but attractive. Well done Seiko 🫶. Love my SSC813, but I may have to pick this one up too 😅
I just purchased the 39mm. After much consideration between 39 vs 41; I just keep coming back to that all black dial. I also have small wrist and I think the 39mm will wear better. At the end of the day you can’t go wrong with either choice
Personally, I really find 24 hr subdials to be useless, it just feels lazy movement wise whenever they make one like this. Can anyone share what uses you might have for this feature?
maybe it's just me BUT the date is NOT at 4h30 it's at 4...20? maybe?!?!? that's what makes it stand out like a sore thumb. if it would have been exactly at 4h30, the symmetry with the hour markers would not make it stand out so much
Beautiful but the 24hr subdial is such a throwaway. Also, make the minute sub dial 30 minutes, 60 is too hard to read. This is a fashion watch with these flaws.
Why the F**** would they make the date wheel black??!!! That’s Seiko just flipping you off every time you look at the dial! Seriously, designers work so hard to melt the date wheel into the design and Seiko said, “screw it! Put it in an awkward spot and make it an eye sore by using black.”
Nah, Ive had two Solar Seikos ended up either dying on me due to not absorbing enough energy, or just not working. Id rather replace a battery every 3-5 years all day
Seiko does have automatic chronographs powered by the 8R46, but they're pretty dang thick. And pricey. Check out the SRQ0XX line. Over 15mm from case back to crystal! I'd take the slimmer profile and more palatable price tag of the solar chronographs over their automatic offerings any day.
Seiko dropped the ball on this one. Lug to lug needs to move to 49-50mm to hit the next level of buyers. Making it wider doesn’t help unless you expand the lug to lug. Seiko needs to get some bigger wrists in the test lab - they’re missing the market. I’d get one, but they only produced another small version.
Seiko is so out of touch from realistic prices. A sub-$500 watch for roughly $1,000? I rather just get the Citizen Promaster Chrono, Eco-Drive tech that offers a very wide service interval, better accuracy, and even better aesthetics, and STILL pocket $400 for a Orient or a G-Shock.
