    Hi Karen. The background really is so beautiful. Pulls it all together. The muted soft colours match perfectly. This was the fastest video on a background in a good way, so quick and easy. I starting watching and in the blink of an eye it was over. Looking forward to seeing you again in your non colouring video. Whatever you bring i am sure will be helpful to many my friend. Love Ya ( Lily ) x🌸🌾🌸

    It all turned out so beautiful. And the background is amazing!!! I love how simple it is to do yet so incredibly effective!! I officially HAVE to try oil pastels! I have thought about them before because of their opacity. The other colours of this paper would be fun to experiment on! I have a pad of clairfontain painton paper which has a few colours ( white, grey , blue!!! Green!! Black And tan- It doesn’t have the same texture as strathmore). I can’t give a review of it as I haven’t really tried it, but it has some good reviews ( I guess there are probably bad ones too- everyone is different. Maybe search CZcams if you are interested)
    Thank you so incredibly much again Karen
    Ps now I really can’t wait til February comes- another beautiful fairy from you.
    Edit- so sorry to ask, how many oil pastels are in your set?

      Never be sorry to ask a question Paige! The set I have is the Mungyo Gallery 48 set.
      I may have to see if if my local art supply store sells that paper in single sheets. I may try it! ❤️❤️❤️

      @@ArtbyKarenValentine thank you so incredibly much!!!
      And the paper- you can get it in a ‘variety pack’ to try several colours in one pad ( doesn’t have the green), & whole pads of a single colour of course. The colours on the front are not the best representation of the actual colour ( I don’t think- I’m sure that’s what I thought🧐… it is 5am so I may be thinking of something else! Lol). The blue/ denim is fewer pages than the others ( I checked out price& page numbers… nearly missed it ), so keep an eye out for that . I have a multi pack (I was gifted!) a white & tan pad but I would love the denim/ blue & grey the most I think( currently in my amazon cart 😂) . It’s 250gsm & is supposed to be multimedia paper ( I guess comparable to Strathmore mixed media but not the same texture as that or the strathmore thinner/ sketch versions as mentioned above ). 💙

    This is extremely beautiful and I love all the freckles. I am wondering if you will need to spray this because of the oil pastels or is that only chalk pastels that requires it.

    • @ArtbyKarenValentine
      @ArtbyKarenValentine  Před rokem +1

      Thank you Sandy! I do not spray my oil pastels. The thin layers cure up fine and don’t transfer to other things like the chalk pastels do. 😃

    • @FernCurtis
      @FernCurtis Před rokem +3

      Actually, if you were to stop and think about chalk pastels, ask yourself: “why is it most people have to spray their pages after using chalk pastels? Got any ideas, yet?
      If not, let me try and help you understand. The vast majority of people will put a little bit of the chalk pastel on, their fingers, a cotton swab/bud a cotton ball, etc., then they simply lightly go over the page. That is where the mistake is. By doing that, the chalk is simply lying on the surface of the page and thus it will go all over the place unless you set it. The first one or two images, that I personally did, using chalk pastels and/or eyeshadow, I did the exact same thing, so I understand. However, I then saw a video, about a year into my coloring journey that changed everything. (And no, there is no way for me to link it. Unfortunately, I don’t even remember which channel I saw do this and I honestly tried to find it again, but couldn’t). What you need to do, if using chalk pastels, is to take a few extra minutes and make sure you work the pastel into the actual tooth of the paper. It is simple to figure out if it is in the tooth or not. You simply take a clean finger and rub it firmly against the paper, if there isn’t anything on your finger, then you have gotten it into the tooth of the paper. If there is a bit of residue on your finger, then you know you need to work into the tooth a little bit more. It really and truly does only take a few extra minutes to do. Although, you can’t use just a light pressure to do it, you need to use a firm pressure to get into the tooth. However, once it is in the tooth of the paper, it isn’t going anywhere and thus, you don’t need to spray it. I have been doing this for 5 years now, when I want to use chalk pastels and I can say with absolute certainty, that when I go back to look at images from 2, 3, 4, and 5 years that there is absolutely no residue that has come off onto other pages or other things if not in a book and when I rub my hand or a finger over the page, they come away clean. I know I was thankful for having found that video because I need to be careful of using chemicals and I know others who also had to be, were thankful for me letting them know about this. Hope this helps!

      Thank you so much Fern for this information. I had no idea that I could rub the pastel into the tooth like you explained and it would stay there without smudging off.

    Oh wow, I never thought to just use fingers for applying oil pastels, but that works great! One question, though, and forgive me if you covered it in the video and I missed it....but what if you get oil pastel (or also Gelatos, when doing backgrounds) over the pencil work and you want to erase it? How would you recommend doing that? Thanks in advance! ☺

    • @ArtbyKarenValentine
      @ArtbyKarenValentine  Před rokem +1

      I’ve done that many times Jen. If you just go over it gently, it should come off just fine. If colored pencil comes off too, just add it back.

    • @jenscoloringcorner
      @jenscoloringcorner Před rokem +1

      @@ArtbyKarenValentine ok, but how do you remove it? Do you just use your eraser? I used a Q-tip previously for removing the gelato from on top of the pencil work, but I didn’t know if maybe there was a better way to do it?

    • @ArtbyKarenValentine
      @ArtbyKarenValentine  Před rokem +1

      @@jenscoloringcorner I just use my mono eraser for small areas. (That’s usually all it is) if it’s a larger area I’d use my beaded eraser. Just be sure to clean them before using again. 😀
