you answered red03's question. to many bands at the time, music scene was changing, and it seemed like every original band coming forth was always compared to "Tool". ( chavelle? wink!). I saw these guys live in savannah. Goddamn awesome!
+Spooky_ I agree. I discovered them when I was in high school; they were opening for Three Days Grace with this song in their set. It continues to be my favorite song of theirs, and it really sucks to me that they didn't get bigger.
This is one of those songs that I listen to a lot during my struggle with addiction especially the song falls apart by them I listen to a lot over and over.
+Jorge Rezende Well I've been listening to Haken a lot lately. Native Construct is a great new band. Between the Buried and Me is probably my all time favorite though
Randomly got this song stuck in my head today, was glad to remember it after all of these years. The lyrics were oddly formative to my child self and was part of the first little bit of momentum that led to a lifelong love for music, dreaming that maybe somebody I would contribute something to the ether that resonates with somebody like this resonated with my pre teen self. What a happy memory
I was involved with the recording of this record when Capitol signed them. My good friend from High School single handedly recorded, mixed, mastered & produced this entire record and Ten Ton Brick. My contribution was an acoustic guitar and a coupled of mics I lended for the recordings. Was so happy to help, love all the songs and was a huge influence on me being an 80's rocker. Was looking for inspiration for my project and I found it with Hurt, only wish they would've got the credit they deserved!
Then you'll "get it" more when I say that this song has the cleanest and snappiest snare recorded since Madonna's "Material Girl". In short, I'm comparing ya boi to Nile Rodgers...send that along. Fantastic work... 👍🏻
I love the mix of hard rock and melodic vocals with subtle harmony… The way the instrumental builds, then slows to a symphonic sweetness gives me chills. Excellent song and video!!
Gotta say, this sounds like a radio edit, and that really takes away from the power behind it, especially the whole ending part that was cut out. For those who don't know and somehow ended up here, there's a whole verse dropped in this edit. "She swore she heard the voice of Jesus/ Telling her it was wrong to keep it/ And one more thing/ It looked like me/ When it breathed/ Rest in peace."
@@ojikakun Here's youtube's automatic upload of the song, might not be the most amazing quality, but it gets the job done, czcams.com/video/tZWz0fq0Xdo/video.html
I remember buying and listening to this album from "Shallow" to "House Carpenter" when it first came out. It was loud, angry, emotional, and hauntingly beautiful. This song, especially, STILL makes the hair on my neck stand up.
I listened to this song years ago, fell in absolute love since I also Am an Army Vet. Now, to this day, it still holds sheer power into me, and as I listen just now, silent tears remind me of how much I have survived, and keep soldiering on. Despite all those attempts to put me down. ❤
I'm convinced that not too many other bands songs stay so appealing and touching to so many... I feel the band has had a very slow but consistent increase in popularity
Mastering of this song has been done by a genius. I am an audiophile that JUST found this masterpiece and listened to it the first time. It is genius genius genius. The song structure is SO UNUSUAL. Every time you expect an outburst of sound and emotion, the song goes quiet with instruments being so subtle, so soft. These moments of complete silence... These lyrics. Listening on my HE1000 and dying out of enjoyment.
When my son died at almost a year old. I was so devastated and crushed. I didn't know if I was going to be able to get though it. R.I.P Darryl Edward James Simpson 3-15-05---2-14-06 My soul died a little bit that day. And I'll fucking never be the same. This song really helped sooth my soul. My baby belonged with me. absolutely a masterpiece. This is what I feel. Never could explain but this song "So until your Rapture falls to piece." And I would if I could destroy God. Cuz born again til you are worn again. Just one thing, it looked like me, backed when it breath.
Listening in 2020 and still remember how great the songs structures were perfect and made this song epic reminds of Tool maybe they are influenced by then
This song is deceptively beautiful. Find in Christ all that is life. Without him, you are not truly alive yet. Without the Holy Spirit, you can't even see the kingdom of God. With him, we are led into ALL truth
I love this song so much. I can't even describe it in words. From the music to his raw voice so full of emotion to the dark, twisted lyrics and the tragic story contained in the song...one of the most touching songs I've ever heard. I've even cried listening to this song. So moving. I am so fortunate I got to see them perform.
Randomly, tonight, June the 6th 2024, this track emerged from my brain, I couldn’t remember the band or track name, I dredged my mind all day for crumbs of lyrics and I finally found it again. So glad I did 🙂
I was like 10 years old or something like that, in middle school when I found this song. I remember being in love with the passion and the sound and memorizing every word, even though I didn’t really understand it all. Coming back years later at 25, damn I always had good taste but damn does this song hit hard right in the feels 💀 amazing song
Just re-listening for the first time since early high school. For many years this was my favorite band of all time, after Tool. The intensity of the instrumentation with the poetic ever-changing vocals always got to my very soul. I saw them live several times and was just heartbroken no one seemed to value them the way I did. I also think they changed and became a bit more generic with each album that passed. Raw talent, intelligence, creativity, and that special soul-defining quality was always there with Hurt. It's too bad more music like this is not appreciated nowadays. The closest we have in a hard rock spectrum are good bands like Royal Blood, Chevelle (still relevant!?), Muse, but Hurt was so much more than this.
I was about 13 when I first heard this song and I was hooked, well my friends all thought I was weird. Until I bought the CD and played it while we were drinking one night
This song and Falls Apart are two of my favourite songs, so much emotion packed into those two tracks and they're just awesome. This band should have been huge.
Goddamn, man. I would hear this song on the radio on gloomy nights in 2006, and it always struck me as profound. However, I knew nothing about Hurt. (Like the fact that J.Loren's a virtuoso violinist who writes all their songs) What really gets me are the violin lines during the chorus. And the video's absolutely terrifying.
Thankful my dad put me on music like this never understood the meaning of this song til I got older and he explained it to me, about the woman taking her child’s life. Very thought provoking song. Very sad song; with that being said this band deserved a bigger spot light also ten ton brick is such a good song.
@red03mitsu they have alot of music people don't know about. They had a album in 2000 (just called hurt) and also as someone else commented, besides and footnotes in 2015.... Both on CZcams only
One of my favorite bands. Such a unique sound. Never got the full acclaim they should have. Massive talent. But the songs ....the lyrics. It had its lifespan. Only so much life one can live. Too much would've left them generic and less authentic. Simply badass just as it is.
victoria darling Yeah it is it's because she thought that God told her to do it. I think it's also about how damaging faith is on a whole too using her case as an example.
One of those bands that never quite got the attention they deserved. Amazing track.

"One more thing it looked like me when it still breathed, rest in peace" They left that part out of this.
Lord Alaster, I wondered if anyone else noticed that!
I was wondering where that was. Makes me bawl every time I hear it.
This was a video they put out for the song and they cut that out so it didnt directly relate to abortion
