i know this is off subject but i just wanted to thank you for your great recommendations in one of your older videos when you went to otsu for omi beef. last week we went to ishiyama-dera temple and then did lunch at matsukiya.
the temple was so peaceful and uncrowded. as we walked around the grounds there were many times when we had whole spaces to ourselves. we had gone to todai-ji temple in nara the day before, which was beautiful... but the crowds 😱 such a contrast.
matsukiya certainly lived up to expectations. we did the gozen set menu as well. the service was great and the restaurant setting was pleasant and quiet. everything came out in a very timely manner, which i liked cos when i go to a restaurant im there to eat 😆
loved the steamed egg dish. and the omi beef was amazing. we went to another great restaurant for kobe beef last week. i have to say i prefer omi beef for the same reasons you mentioned i.e. it's not as fatty and you can really taste the beef. kobe beef, i was quite full after the 160g steak we had, which surprised me. omi beef tho, im sure i could've eaten a kilo of the stuff 😂
so thank you, simon and martina 🙏 this day trip to otsu/ishiyama turned out to be a real highlight on our holiday!

While I’m pointing out stuff, I was confused when you translated “おかし
こまいぬ” as “candy dragon”. According to my dictionary, “りょう” is dragon and “こまいぬ” refers to the lion-Dogs outside Shinto shrines. I can totally see the connection to Spudgy, especially since the first kanji refers to Korea. And “candy lion-dog” is less snappy. But would it be worth changing the translation you provide to avoid further confusion?🤔
While I was looking things up, I came across a word I think really fits Spudgy: こうりょう, a dragon which has already ascended. 💖

If you want to stay in Asia:
I like Shanghai because it’s really immersive, almost to the level of Tokyo’s Disneyland. It’s also Feung Shui’d the heck out & generally really Chinese (e.g. they don’t have the traditional Haunted Mansion ride because Disney was worried it would mock praying to ancestors)
Some people don’t like Shangai Disneyland, saying it’s “dirty” or whatever, but I think that’s just because they’re not used to Chinese culture. You guys were able to stomach (heh) the belly slapping on the bus when you went to Beijing, so I think you’d be fine. Hong Kong’s Disney is cute too, but a lot more was put into Shanghai IMO.
I also like Disneyland Paris! The attitude in Paris can generally be like “Alors! Ve are frensh! We do naute carrreeeh about anyzing!”🐌🥖🍷 so it’s kind of weird to have that atmosphere enveloping Disney’s sugary optimism, but I think they play it off really well and it’s equally as ~magical~. This is also for sure the prettiest Disneyland OwO. They really played to Paris’s strengths and made a lot of this park SUPER detail oriented and romantic. Just don’t go to the backlot in Walt Disney Studios ;) They literally put in zero effort.

I have never been to Tokyo Disney Sea but I have been to the Osaka Universal Studios and the Halloween there was very very very amazing and fun.. Every attraction turned halloween themed when the sun went down and zombies are either running around or chasing people. I am not a huge fan of zombies so I was always the one running away when the zombies approach. :)

I used to be the type of person that would laugh at people like Martina and Simon because they were so happy and keeping their childhood alive. I was so insecure with myself and then I wondered why I’m making fun of peoples genuine happiness. If I saw Martina and Simon in public laughing and enjoying toys and cutesy foods that would put a smile on my face. Truly.

I've been to Japan 3 times already and I've been so stubborn about not visiting theme parks, i was always "no! You didn't come to Japan to visit Disney, you came for the culture and amazing old buildings" and right now I'm like, nah bugger that next time I wanna go Disney Sea and scream my pants off in the tower of terror.
I really like how authentic looking all the different areas are, like some designers really sat down and did some hardcore research to get Disney Sea to look so fantastic.
Next trip, totally going Disney Sea, been totally sold on going there now.
P.s. Martina if you ever want help or advice on your drawings for Merchandise I'd be happy to give some help!

Since you've been to Japan 3 times, would you have advice for a first timer? Ive been researching for years but never been quite yet. Im just very nervous about the language barrier? Id love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!
@@aviirose9743 Well, having a rental pocket wifi is a life-saver, googlemaps also helped me get from point a to point b.
If you are worried about the language barrier or running into issues, download a translating app (not google translate tho) so that if you completely can't communicate you can use the app to help even a little (read the reviews before downloading!)
However, you'll find most places have an English menu, but if you visit some places that are more for the locals they may not, e.g. like Min Min Ramen in Harmonica Alley doesn't but one of the guys there took me outside to their window to point to the food I wanted.
My last trip I learnt to worry less about my comfort zone, Simon and Martina showed so many wonderful places to eat that that drove me to be more confident, plus the Japanese people will do their best to help you.
If it's a first trip, don't make it too long if you are travelling alone. You will get really lonely and lazy towards the end, so a 14-16 day trip to Japan is a good starting point. You'll think its short but that's good, keeps you going back for more, plus once you get a handle on it, you can take a really long trip and see how you feel.
Biggest advice; don't.travel.in.summer. It is bad, people were fainting (even at night) from heat stroke in my last visit and it was September! So yeah, avoid summer if you can't handle hot weather.
I could keep going on and on honestly, but I believe that once you make that first step, you learn how you want to travel around in Japan, and that'll change with each visit. It'll be nerve-wrecking the first time, but once you do it, you'll be like "yea! Why was I nervous to begin with!"

Awww this makes me remember my honeymoon. My husband and I went to Disneyland and one night we decided to ride thunder mountain while theunwere doing the fireworks because the lines were super short. We popped over a hill and the sky erupted with one of the giant fireworks right at that moment. Truly magical for the both of us and one of my favorite Disney memories. Today is actually our wedding anniversary as well!

Wow! Just Wow!!! I remember visiting Tokyo Disney land in 2003 and Tokyo Disney sea had just opened. I don’t even remember it being that big or that awesome. I can’t wait to share this video with my parents and see if it drums up any memories. I think they will just be blown away. Great video guys!

Dancing kid story time! Last Christmas, I was waiting outside the grocery store while my mom was grabbing something. As I'm waiting, I see this cute kid and his two granddads (I'm guessing) come out. This kid is busting a move like I have never seen. Such style, such grace! As he spins around, he notices me watching him and stops. He looks at his granddads. They all look at me. I wave. The granddads wave. The kid locks eyes with me and dances backwards all the way to their car, never breaking his gaze.
It was the single most magical moment of my life.
Amusement park most important tip: get there before they are open. Literally become the first 20 people at most.
Rational?
1. You dont have to wait for long
2. The weather still chilly and nice
3. NOT MANY PEOPLE YET.

I went recently for Halloween and zombies were stalking around ‘twas fun would recommend.
YES! We went there for Harry Potter land a few years ago AND IT WAS AMAZING!
Simon and Martina come for Halloween sometime if you can! Lots of great Halloween attractions like haunted houses and horror shows, and then zombie clowns and pirates and dudes with chainsaws running around the park to jump at you when you finish a ride ;)
