As Australians mark NAIDOC week, we wanted to share this beautiful performance of 'I Am Australian' with lyrics in Pitjantjatjara language.
The words were translated by Caroline Windy and Robert Borgas, with 90 singers performing at Simpsons Gap on Arrernte Country, including singers from the Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir.

uwa payla ! I feel so lucky to have learnt Pitjantjatjara at primary school back in the 90's, I had a lot of nunga mates and their relatives would crack up laughing when this(me) little gunya fella would sing heads,shoulders,knees and toes in Pitjantjatjara for them !
Ilovelanguages on CZcams with Andy has Pitjantjatjara and Eastern Arrernte languages saying the Lord's prayer. Pitjantjatjara is a beautiful language and seems to roll of the tongue like melted butter.👍

Well this was sweet. My Mum was an ex-Brit turned Aussie citizen of the 80s.
She died in the 10s, and she NEVER regretted moving here. EVER.
This video makes me want to visit Australia even more. A wonderful land with beautiful people.
I am Australian is a marvellous anthem, and it should become the new national anthem. It reflects today’s Australia for it’s inclusive , cultural diversity should not be divisive.

You can. There a courses in some of these Languages and I'm pretty sure they have one in Pitjantjatjara.

He returned home to Australia as a pariah, suffering unofficial sanction and was ridiculed as the forgotten man of the Black Power salute. He was not selected for the 1972 Olympics and never ran in an Olympics again.
Norman sadly passed away at the age of 62 in 2006

Made me cry. We are one! Remember when Australia won the America Cup? That's how proud we should be that we live here and we all go through the same challenges that this land throws our way.
It's a pity we have left Julian Asanga to rot. This is all great on the surface and is a positive in itself but it's still propaganda if the feeling this video conveys is not carried over into our everyday lives where it matters and not for a one minute song.

Every primary school child in Australia should learn 1 verse of the I Am Australian in the local area's indigenous language (there are 300+ languages across the country) and since it once.
Good for national unity, and local regional identity too. Least we can do👍
What a FANTASTIC idea! It would be so beautiful to here a huge group of kids at the MCG, or Southbank in Brisbane, or in front of the Opera House in Sydney, different kids singing a different line in whatever language they have learn! Wouldn’t it be amazing!

If we truly are one and all Australian then let’s gather under the one Australian flag, For all Australians indigenous and non indigenous. Because we are all Australians, because it doesn’t matter if we don’t have British heritage or any heritage from the UK Or Europe we will always fly the Australian flag with the union Jack on the left-hand side of the corner. Many people of different backgrounds fly the Aussie flag with the Union Jack. Because they strongly identify with the Australian flag because they are Australian regardless of what it looks like because at the end of the day we are all Australian.
