    If you assign one different MIDI channel per track in Cubase to each of the synts in AUM (and configuring each synth in AUM to receive only the MIDI channel of it's conterpart channel in Cubase) you can record all AUM channels at the same time but with each channel as a separate audio file by selecting the rec button of each channel in AUM. Then press Rec in AUM and then press play in Cubase. After the song ends press stop in AUM and stop in Cubase). Each of AUMs tracks audio will be available separatelly in AUM rec folder. Transfer those files to the Cubase PC (using Audioshare or a USB storage device plugged into the iPad, in Files App), and allign them by ear on the timeline.

      I’ve made a couple of videos demonstrating this process. Normally, moving files between pc and iOS I use Dropbox. The method you describe is probably the quickest way if there are a lot of tracks to export. I’m trying to get a step closer than that though. I feel like I should be able to get this integration a step closer, smoother somehow but at the moment I’m disappointed - it’s not as integrated as I want it to be.

    Sweet setup! And super cool to see King of Digital in there! :)

    Have Cubasis 3 on the iPhone, and use mainly Logic for both iPad and MacOS. RE app prices, Silo by Unfiltered Audio is $170 on desktop and $10 on iOS. Insane!
    Thanks for that part at the end where you’re thinking out loud about your process. We got the trial for Cubase but didn’t like it as much as Logic. Right now, we’re trying to figure out how to get Logic for Mac to work with iPad - usually we BPM/key/time sync the iPad when working on Mac, make sure notes on iPad are in the right key when playing new lines, and AirDrop WAV files to the iPad. No hardware routing or anything, but you’ve got us considering it now!

      I get what you’re saying. I’ve worked like that before. Many times I’ve done a rough mixdown, sent it to another device so that I could work on parts on that device and then send stems back to the “main” device. If I can be of any help, just ask

    I also like to combine my macbook with my ipad in creating new stuff. Mostly I will use AUM and Ableton to produce the stems. To finalize I use Ableton, Reaper or Logic Pro. Because of the prices of the ipad apps there is a whole lot to experiment with sounds and efx I never can afford on my macbook. This creates an inspiring world of sounds and endless possibilities. And opens the door to musical styles I usually not would go to to play with. Also the community with all its content creators supply inspiration and teach about new stuff! Or explain with a different approach already known concepts. That also means your work! ;-) keep up the good work! Thank you!

      Totally hear you on this my friend! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice comment. So, I have a question for you. Does your iOS sync ok with Ableton? Can you run the 2 projects ableton linked reasonably seamlessly?

      @@JamieMallender There is a tiny delay which doesn't bother me when recording ideas and sketches. First from the rme babyface to the by opto connected mic pre in which the ipad outputs (1 ms) its signal. Then the ipad + focusrite(the old 2chan) plus the AbletonLink is giving a bigger latency (8ms). Moreover it is not rock solid. It seems to vari when looking critical at the recorded tracks. But after a short time like 2 bars it seems to stabilize. It looks like it starts slower and then catches up.lets say i am saved here by the count-in...

    I work with both Cubasis 3 and Cubase 13 Pro. Usually work on the iPad unless I need tempo changes. My vocal synth software is desktop only so I ship stems and MIDI files back and forth via FE File Explorer Pro app using SFTP, it's fairly painless. I'd like to move my Cubase onto a Mac Mini at some stage. I love Cubase features like the chord track and vocal harmony generation.

      I’ve done similar - in the past if I’ve needed real sounding drums for instance I create the drum track on the pc, render the individual tracks to real audio and Dropbox them to iOS. It’s fairly easy but I am trying to find more ways to integrate the 2 things. I don’t want some elaborate kind of setup that looks clever for CZcams though, I want a very real everyday setup that just facilitates getting stuff done. I have more exploring to do.

    Great workflow setup! I use iOS apps in my desktop workflow as well and probably figured out how to do it from one of your older videos lol I especially took a lot from your LK / Ableton Live style setup tutorial! Always great stuff and thanks for sharing

      Thank you for commenting. It’s nice to hear that something I did helped someone. I’ve always been a big Cubase fan but I really could do with a DAW that Ableton Links to my iOS stuff so, perhaps I should try something else…. I dunno but I feel like I can get closer to what I want - always searching - but also I need to take some time to enjoy what I have and make some music with it. Thank you for watching my friend!

    Great workflow, thanks for the video, i wonder why in 2024 we don’t have an easier way to do all this… i heard about IDAM, enables ios as sound source on mac

      I really don’t know. I can’t believe there has been so little progress made in this area. I’m still struggling to improve upon this. I’ve tried a bunch of things since but still exploring. ✌️✌️✌️✌️

    Not using multiple platforms just the iPad you have to do work arounds all the time so working on parts in a different environment would not really bother me ,yes a good workflow is important ,but if I could use a pc I would probably be putting tracks together on the iPad and finish the project in a pc with all the power and ease for all the final mix with filtering and volume automation…..and yes sorry I hate cubasis where this is possible and still not settled into GarageBand plus opps I mean Logic Pro.I probably have a ridicules work flow that could make my life a lot easier
    Considering I use nanostudio 2 a daw without audio tracks but have guitar,bass and drums tracks in my projects.
    The point is making the best of what you have…we make music so we want it to sound good so if you have 2 good platforms it totally makes sense to integrate two systems to get the best results,that’s what I would do given the option but is not physically possible for me

      As convoluted as you may think your process is Russ, it works. You do amazing work and that is all that really matters - what comes out of the speakers. I admire you so much for that. I’m just kind of, trying to explore possibilities without the time it takes to do that detracting too much from actually getting music finished 😂

    I found that if I want to use any of the synths from the ipad (Sunrizer, korg, ect)
    it's easier for me to open an audio track on pc, and simply record the audio part..(Audio out from ipad to audio in on tascam, straight into the pc) 😁

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  Před 7 měsíci

      @@JamieMallender just play while the pc is recording,
      for midi I would record the midi part on the ipad, freeze it and import the audio to pc,
      i often use Bram Bos Hammerhead from the ipad and import the wav file,
      it's a much easier work flow for me personally.. 👍🏼

      @@PAL-MUSIC-1 yeah that makes sense, I’ve done that too. I just think though, that there has to be a better way. I don’t think we’re there yet but I’m pushing it. I mean if Cubase had Ableton Link there wouldn’t be any rush to consolidate and it leaves more options open

    How does Ableton link work with Cubasis?
    Just started trying out Ableton Lite on pc, but all my synths are on iOS.

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Go to settings, midi - Ableton link + select options. Then switch on Ableton Link in any other app on any devices that support it and they will sync to each other via WiFi. That could be hardware devices or pc, Mac or other mobile devices. It’s very cool!
