The music video was directed by Derek Jarman and features two intercut storylines; one filmed in black and white, and the other in colour.
This track is included in SMASH - The Singles 1985 - 2020. The complete collection of Pet Shop Boys singles in chronological order. “SMASH" will be released on Parlophone on June 16th in a variety of formats including 3CD box set, 6LP vinyl box set and digitally, as well as two special limited edition formats available exclusively via the Pet Shop Boys store - 6LP white vinyl box set and 3-cassette box set. A 3CD/2Blu-ray edition will also be released which includes the complete video collection of the singles plus extras.

There is absolutely no doubt that the 80s and 90s were the best years in every respect. Anyone who was able to enjoy this time as a teenager or older can count themselves lucky. Today I am 58 years young and still enjoy watching and listening to it on the internet, wonderful.

Experiencing the music in the 80s was an indescribable feeling. The hits, the beginning of the home computer c64 and atari are legendary. I miss that time very much and with the Pet Shop Boys it's like traveling back in time. Great band.
Pet Shop Boys is one of those bands that you appreciate more and more over time. They have so many great songs, ahead of their time.
Im now 43 i first time heard about pet shop boys from my older Cousin and i still love them and i love the english that they use its so clear i understand all of them beside the fact i just learned scool english and im from a non english speaking Country but im still use all chanses to practice on vacation or Job peaople from England very nice and open!

One of my favourite PSB songs/videos….I’m a train driver and the train you see pulling into King’s Cross in the video number 43077 I’ve actually driven numerous times over a 19 year period between Leeds and London and she always reminds me of this song ❤️

They are more than LEGENDS, I have always admired Chris for the music he composed for this song, the melody, the contrast in the harmonies, the emotions behind every sound...and I admired Neil for the lyrics so meaningful, sarcastic and yet so deep...RENT IS AN ETERNAL JEWEL

I was a young girl and a teenager in the 80s/90s and although I was a metal fan, I also loved the Pet Shop Boys especially and other synth pop bands like Erasure, the Communards, Depeche Mode... I know the PSB were singing about being gay but it was more than that - I'm autistic but not diagnosed until my 40s, I'm female and heterosexual - but songs like this talked to me. Made it ok to be "different". And the music is just wonderful. My mother loved them too. Thank you Pet Shop Boys!

I loved all their songs from West End Girls until this came out. It was all such great pop. But I remember that with this song I thought: This is more than "just" pop and a few hits, they're here to stay. They are gonna be one of these groups. And here they are, almost 40 years later, still standing, still relevant.

Times have changed so much. Back in the 80’s, we knew so many artists were gay, but their record labels made them pretend they were straight in videos. Today, that would be unheard of. But one thing- the Pet Shop Boys music is timeless. It actually gets better with age! I’m as old as the sugar mommy (in the video) now! 😂 She seemed so old at the time…😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤❤ But their music just stands the test of time. ❤❤❤❤❤

so much to unpack here - Derek Jarman was a fantastic director whose work included Caravaggio and Sebastiane (and many others - google him if you're unfamiliar) and seeing - more alarmingly - seeing Chris Lowe SMILING?! It's almost too much. Love this. I used to do a mashup back in the day of the 12" of this and Cold Hearted by Paula Abdul. They worked really well together.

As Neil described that time from 1985 to 1988, "the Imperial Era of the Pet Shop Boys". The album Actually is the reason why I became a PSB fan in 1987 at the age of 14. Here I am decades and albums later, still and always a big fan! Thanks Chris and Neil.
