    The Ray's main weapon is pinpoint accurate at Max range which is means it excels at hitting small targets and surface elements. It's very easy to strip the graviton turrets off a K and the mediums can't break the shield regen.
    I'm planning to use them with an asgard for station busting when I get there in my current game.

      That is true! I had mine with two asgards and it died while OOS. I want to get like three or four with the Asgards and do the same. Been using the Asgards to turn the xenon tide.

    Boron weapons need a propper buff their guns hit like wet noodles.

      Boron ships are great to travel, whatever you need a fleet somewhere in the galaxy fast send a boron fleet.
      Their shields are also great.
      The only real problem is that you can only outifit boron ships with boron tech.

    as a terran producing fighters with 8 mil cost for sale to other races, it cracks me up, your destroyer costs as much as my 3 fighters :D

    Bubbleface (love the name) sits behind a military licence, despite being a scout. But it's the fastest to the point of putting the X3 Kestrel to shame, and that is saying something.
    I agree that the Barracuda is lacking as a heavy fighter for the Boron. It may make a decent torpedoe boat, but not a space superiority fighter.
    M-sized are amazing, enough said there. 😂
    The Ray is either a debuff ship to pin down targets for a fleet take down capital ships, or an escort vessel. I use the Ray as an anti-fighter squasher with its L flak turrets. I have a couple of them escorting other destroyers, voiding the need for interceptors.
    Combining Rays with a Shark with torpedo boats and you have yourself an extremely effective rapid-response fleet taking minimal casualties against Xenon invasions. Why do I only focus on Xenon?
    I played previous versions of X4 where the AI was so dumb that destroyer captains would allow any Xenon capital ship to "climb" above them at close range. Suffice it to say that, in my games, the Xenon would utterly devastate everything in their path. One Xenon K was enough to wipe out 3-4 destroyers, without taking damage itself. While the AI has been fixed, making the Commonwealth and Terran fleets more effective at fighting Xenon capital ships, I'm traumatized enough by the massacres that occurred before that I always seek alternatives to destroyers when taking on K's and I's.

      If you don't focus Xenon to keep them in check you lose like 5-6 sectors quick... The AI is better but i was recently on the landing deck of an Asgard and just watched a K fly right over.... I had to take the helm and correct.

    The Borons are an Aquatic Race that reflects their Ocean and Coral like designs complemented with lights all present outside and inside the hull like the luminescent creatures in the deep.

      @@T-Skillet But out of all factions on the Borons have their own unique designed only made for them while most factions and races except for humans have a very human like designed that is clearly not suitable of their own respective races.
      Although the only thing i don't not like about the Borons Carrier ship is how similar every faction have the similarity for their opening/closing and folding of the ramp pads at least they could have designed that is unique for the Borons itself because it doesn't fit at all from the cosmetics and architecture point of view not just human designed ramp animation.

      @@nikkotan2840 Think the Vigor and Avarice factions have nice ship design. But these designs carry over from previous titles and i think fit well.... Well maybe not the Teladi, still very human-ish not like X3. They had very economical builds i feel.

      @@T-Skillet True but still though if only they could redesigned the aircraft hangar landing pads it's model, architecture, and animation that specifically fits the aesthetic of each races and ship ship for ex the Boron Carrier it should have a Boron designed hangar pad with their own animation and model not the typical Human built hangar pads that simply go up/down and folds. It gives a new level of immersion when done perfectly but i hope the next X franchise would correct that.

    The entire boron line is very original. Now I kinda regret the other races were not designed with the same spirit (well, the splits were a little bit i guess).
    They have an absurdely good scout ship (to the point I was wondering if mass producing them and using them as carrier fighters might be a good idea, compensating low firepower for extreme speed and manoeuvrability), and their light fighter is fast and manoeuvrable enough to have some survivability. Their heavy fighters are problematic tho, and I can't make it work.
    I used wings of both makos and barracudas on carriers (both carriers are excellent, they throw and recover entire wings much faster than the other carriers, so the fighters attack and defend in large numbers at once).
    The barracuda would die in much larger number than the mako, particularly from capital fires; shields are useless when fighters are too slow to run away from the source of damage, or don't evade large turrets fire. The makos were mostly good as an anti module force, striking turrets and engines.
    And while Makos would do a surprisingly good job in anti fighter, probably because of the debuf effect of their gatlings, for pure anti fighter role, I found that my L and XL ships had enough medium turrets anyway.
    Their M class are some of the best, even their gunboat goes against the usual accusation of gunboats being useless.
    The Ray is a very weird destroyer. If the IA doesn't mess up and actually uses its main battery, this destroyer will nearly stop an enemy destroyer, and bombard it from a safe distance. This way (and particularly if piloted by the player) it can be a trolling tool. During one of my fights, I was in a 4 rays vs 3 Ks, and the rays did destroy the 3 Ks without loss, with very minimal micromanaging on my part.
    But would a K be allowed to rush over a Ray, it would obliterate it really fast, the shields and speed of the ray would barely be enough to allow it to escape in time if ordered immediatly (the ray will naturally try to keep its distance, but it is a safer bet to order it).
    Hence my main gripe is that those rays are inconsistent right now, their IA can do the job or be stupid and not fire their main guns (and die in a frustrating way).
    The biggest issue of the borons however is station destruction. They have nothing very good for this job. FIghters are efficient (not even needing torpedoes, just mass makos with anti hull guns will do the job well) but will be destroyed by stations exposions (once I lost half my force, 40 makos, in a fast serie of station modules explosions). As for the Rays, they take forever to do the job.

      I think they have an effective way of showing different factions through their ships. My favorite is the split, then Vigors, Boron. I'll stop there. Cause after that you have the different factions within the commonwealth that have slightly different versions of ships or just one unique ship. I'm glad they added the E class for the paranids they look nice and they have changed the builders as well. I hope there is more of that to come. I'm curious how the Ray will do OOS since the beam should have a 100% hit rate and with a quick cool down. even in a duo or trio it might be deadly. I'm gonna try that out! You have given me some ideas!

      I use the makos in the initial space battle to clean up most of the fighters, then send them to start taking out cap ship turrets and such while the barracudas bombard with torpedo's from range. have not had any major issues and been fairly successful. Im not understanding peoples issues with the barracuda.

      ​@@toneysebits8458 well, issue is simple to me. Better to have 2x40 makos than 40 makos and 40 barracudas.
      The barracuda, if locked by a capital, is a dead ship.
      Makos (well, 80 of them) can destroy a capital just fine.

      The grip against gunboats is usually against AI controlled gunboats

    The Ray is more a support ship you use to slow down enemies until heavy hitters can get in and destroy them - pretty much any other destroyer aside from the Phoenix.
    I wouldn’t use it against a station; someone already tried and the DPS just isn’t there. I’d use it as a part of a screening fleet to prevent enemy reinforcement from getting to your station destroyers.

    I haven’t seen anyone try packing Rays and Guppies with medium dumbfire missile turrets. Use the Rays with Ion Nets to freeze capital ships, and then bombard them from range. Let the pure fighters kill the S and M targets and stay away from bombing the capitals.
    Dumbfires are cheap and very quick to build, and IIRC they’re higher DPS than torpedoes.

    Mods are everything, that's true. But getting enough materials to outfit your fleet with all the purple mods... It will take many hours... I know, I tried. Managed to get my two Asgards and 4 Syns all kitted out in epic quality mods. Every part, every turret. Took me weeks of playing. Now I'm too scared to send them anywhere, because one stupid AI move later I will be down a few days of playing.

      If you have the Bucs you can get mods from them! Only on the S class and Prometheus have them though. But I don’t even have any of the mods unlocked so I can’t even use them. I want to put them in Asgards and the Ray.

      @@T-Skillet Absolutely worth it, I have both Asgards with 4,500 m/s travel speed, and 120 m/s normal speed. At the same time my Erlking reached cataclysmic levels of absurdity when it comes to speed. Base speed is 590 m/s, with travel speed of 28,347 m/s. Yes, 28 kilometers per second. Never reached more than 16k m/s between any two jump gates, though.

    you dont use the barakuda to fight other fighters, you use it as a torpedo boat to blow capital ships out of space. its pretty good at that. you use mako as your dogfighter/interceptor to protect the barakudas while they destroy the big guys.

      Meh, lost 4 barracudas (out of 40) in my attempt to do that against a K.
      Actually sending makos instead, they can disable a capital without losses, then destroy it.
      The barracudas are so embarrassingly slow that i saw them in another attempt follow a k on the move, without firing (but the rear turrets of the K would).

      My Barracudas have been sinking Ks without losses, armed with a mix of heavy and light torpedos. Thinking it as a torpedo bomber is the way. Boron seem to be very good at carrier ops, and outswarming enemies.

    Think the Barracuda is the worst heavy fighter in the game, though Kalis might just beat it out if you include cost.
    Have absolutely loved every minute of flying Boron Medium ships, no complaints, definitely the strength of this faction, even to the point I wish the Boron carriers just skipped on the S craft and had more M ship capacity. I think the carriers will be great with their new launch mechanic if you load them out with pirate or split fighters, maybe even Nodan's.
    And the Ray, well I haven't tried that out yet, I think you need more than 1 and you need to not count on it to be what every other faction counts on their destroyers for. It's a debuffing ship and with 2-4 I think you can stack that debuff quite high until you overwhelm a significantly larger force. That said, it's just not a destroyer, you won't be easily taking out KHK hives once you can field your first Ray. Your not gonna send in 10 rays as a wrecking crew to a xenon sector. You just really need the other races for that, Terran obviously works well with Asgard's and Syns but pretty much any race will do, Even Teladi have L Plasma turrets and a rattlesnake just does everything a Ray doesn't.
    I love the Boron as one piece of a Commonwealth Puzzle whole but don't really see them as complete and independant like the Split and Terran were.

      Ship carrying capacity..... A L class miner can hold like 40 S class ships.... But the Paranid E class miner only holds like 4..... WHY?!?!?! What is the point?!
      Also look at the older models, can they physically fit all those ships and if they can..... where!??!

      @@T-Skillet I see, now. It's the cargo capacity bs. They want to balance it so a carrier can't be an upgraded miner/transport and def not supply, but they also want to use cargo storage for internal storage of ships, iirc. If I'm right, this is the source of the issues. If it helps, stuff is constructed with nano tech, so I assume you can deconstruct to compress if that helps the head canon. They used a related but different logic to explain the boron, actually.

      @@T-Skillet Well, fortunately that's something that could easily be modded, iirc. And they still haven't given us a good reason not to use mods, because ventures isn't worth it. Too many QoL changes needed.
