May I suggest when using kinky curly it is a two part system . You use the leave in first with lots of water and less of the custard with lots of water. You want to use a little of the custard to prevent that build up you saw at the end.

I believe you are mostly type 3. I have 4a/3c hair with my nape and a little of my crown being 3C and the rest 4a. I believe that you are mostly in the type 3 with some 4a hair.

Hey Jae!! Girl your hair growth is amazing! Your wash n go turned out good! Kinky curly has a 16oz for $30 but I wanted to tell you a cheaper alternative is the As I Am curling jelly! I love both the Kinky Curly and the As I Am curling jelly! They both give the same results and have the same texture! I did a video on them a while ago but my hair is finer than yours tho!! Don't feel like you need to use a lot bc a little bit does go a long way! xoxo

Yasssss As I Am it’s 10$ and it made my hair soft for days and i struggle with dry hair. After 1 year being natural I have found my holy grail
I like As I Am I use the twisting cream or the curling jelly for my wash n go styling both work very well for me.
I currently use kinky curly and I generally apply while in the shower and it works best with the conditioner. Great product and my curls don’t shrink. It is expensive but well worth it!

Your hair came out cuteee! I’ve been using this product for about a month now & I loveeee it! It works with soaking wet hair & a quarter size or smaller goes a longgg way! My wash & goes last for about 7-8 days now! I buy mine from either Walgreens when there’s a sale or when I have coupons/rewards on my Walgreens card or Target, the target in NY has it for $14.49 & if you change your location on the app to a NY Target, screenshot it, & go to your local target, you can get a price change. I think I’m gonna eventually give in & buy the 16 oz. that’s $30 b/c the 8 oz. isn’t really enough for more than one wash & go for me. Try it the leave in conditioner too, that’s $11.99 & it’s amazingggg! It melts in your hair & detangles it sooo good! The leave in & custard works great together & I no longer do the LOC/LCO method b/c those 2 products give me all of the moisture & definition I need & plus my wash & goes last sooo long with just those two! So yeah I think I’m gonna just buy the $30 cause technically I’m spending the same amount that I would usually spend on more than one product that eventually flakes my hair/builds up on my scalp in like 4 days of my wash & go. Any who, I hope these tips help! 😊
I've been using this product since 2012! I love it! If you pair it with Camille Rose Naturals Honey Hydrate Leave-In conditioner it makes your curls elongated and extremely defined!
Hey! I've used the product, it works best right out the shower on very wet hair. I use it with the Knot Today leave in conditioner, add the gel\curling custard custard on top. After its dry use an oil to scrunch out the crunch. The Knot Today leave in conditioner adds moisture. It's trial & error but I think your hair turned out gorgeous😉. Oh, and you don't need a lot of product for great results. I've gone from almost waist length hair, to a pixie cut, now I have a bob, & I still have the same larger container I purchased from either Whole Foods or Amazon.
It’s my go-to product these days! To make it last longer, I would recommend that you also buy the Kinky Curly Knot Today leave-in!! They work wonders together!
It's actually best to use the product on soaking wet hair like when you're in the shower.
When I wore my hair curly, that was my HOLY GRAIL STYLER!!! The larger jar is about $35 if I'm not mistaken might be a little bit cheaper but DEFINITELY $30 at least. Nonetheless, it's SOOOOO WORTH THE INVESTMENT IN MY OPINION 😊

I don't know where you live but I bought mine from my neighborhood beauty supply store. They had the large and small jar, and yes the large was $30. I just left Sally's (did a return) and bought the Come Clean shampoo for $11.99 as they recently started selling Kinky Curly. I have yet to see the large size in stores here in NC outside of beauty supply stores.

1 bottle normally lasts me like 2 months. The less of this product and the more water you use, the better results you get and you'll have absolutely NO residual. You don't need to use a brush it.
I usually get 5 wash n go's out of that jar. Just for reference, my hair length is BSL and type 4 also. I use it in the shower with dripping wet hair. It's difficult to get your hair wet enough for this product with a spray bottle. Also, you don't need as much of the product when you use the Knot today leave-in with it. I usually buy the 16oz jar and it lasts me of few months.
If your hair is soaking wet like as soon after you wash it you won’t use nearly as much product. Loved your results tho ❤️
The key to kinky curly is using it right after u wash your hair. I use the knot today leave in the use the custard and u use way less and u won't get the product build up. Use it in the shower and then apply it in sections use less and u will love it more. I was skeptical about this product to because of the price but I use it for my was a go all the time. I can get SEVERAL wash n go's from that small jar.

Jae, it seems like you're REALLY heavy handed with the product. I'm not sure if you need the entire bottle on one style. Maybe if you were applying it right out of the shower where your hair is truly dripping wet, it would be different. I also think if you used a leave-in conditioner with it, along with the dripping wet texture, you'll find you use LESS product. I wanted to comment because you said your front hair doesn't want to curl. MINE IS THE SAME! I thought I was the only weirdo. Its so weird. My back curls are snatched and the front of my hair is weird. Thanks for sharing. I may try this next.
I Am Sharon I may have been. Granted this is my first time trying it out, i needed to get the feel for it. But i may try next time straight from the shower, 🤷🏽♀️ I just bought a new tube so we will see! And FACTS, the back curls are LIFEEEEE but the front is like nah sis... 🙄🙄 idk what to do about them lol

I find it easier if you apply it in the shower. You end up using less as well.
4c and I use this now mainly. Twist outs don’t work for me. My hair needs moisture and water. I use it as a gel. It is pricey, yes. But it’s probably because it’s not overloaded with a ton of chemicals and simply costs more to make? The guaranteed results keeps me using it. I was tired of buying products as well, so although pricey, I’m probably saving some money and a lot of space. I buy the big containers at Whole Foods for $33. It washes out easily too, unlike eco styler, for me in my case. I use Shea moisture shampoo. I just keep telling myself the results are worth the money

This is definitely a throwback product. It was one of the first products for type 4 hair along with miss Jessie’s back when we had to order everything online. Tried it when I big chopped in 2010 and it was too sticky for me. I liked it on my twa but not my bigger fro.
Amazon has the lowest pricing, 2-16oz jars for $50.42. Also, I stopped buying the Knot Today leave-in. Instead I leave-in my Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner (16oz for $3.99) and Alikay Shea Yogurt (8oz for $11.95 purchased in Feb 2018 and jar is still full ) with the custard. Takes me 7-8 months to finish the custards and I apply then while still in the shower with soaked hair.
I dont like middle parts either. Just now trying one this week. Its aight lol. This is not a product in my budget, but that wash n go came out BOOOOMMMBBBB AF ! LOVE the results. I'd buy it for special occasions.
Giiiirrrl that middle part was cute in you, you should have kept it. But the results before and after you went to sleep were so cute. It didn't look dried out, in fact it looked almost a little wet. And that's the look I like so I'm going to try it with their leave-in. Also I've seen that you should have your hair super soaked with water when applying and that way you won't have to use as much.

I love Kinky Kurly custard. I have been using it for a couple of years. Lately, I have been using Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil leave in with it and my hair holds moisture and curl several days. A little goes a long way. I don’t think you needed as much as you used. It initially does not appear to give good definition but as it dries, you will see definition. You don’t have to add more of the product. After a few days, my hair will need more moisture and the gel will bead up and flake. I have high porosity hair and that happens with every gel I have tried. I simply wet it again with some olive oil or cowash and it looks great again. The Kinky Kurly Knot Today leave in is really good too.

your hair grew so much and your wash and go came out bomb. i have to try that kinky curly custard again because when i used it the last time i didnt get a successful wash and go. i think it was because of the leave in i used with it and i didnt use the kinky curly leave in
Lol, you're using a lot and it doesn't take that much. It's the only product I use for wash 'n go's in part because it's natural ingredients. I rock a teeny weeny afro too though so it doesn't really hurt my bank account (although I'd pay for it even with longer hair lol). LOVED watching your initial reaction this lovely product :)
Hey Jaela, Lovely video as usual! Love it! Ive been using Kinky curly for years now, and my advice to extend the use is to use it in combination with other products, like a leave-in conditioner (that mixes well with it). Also, having your hair soaking wet, like "fresh out the shower soaking wet hair" with some leave in condition! Wheewww girl.

I use this on my 4c hair!!! I think you may have used a bit much, I don’t use nearly as much and still get great results

I started out my natural journey in 2011 with this product. Target/ Beauty supply will be the cheapest places to purchase. I have 3C/4A-B, it doesn’t last long in my opinion(1-2 wks). I have super think hair requiring a lot of product. The slip is amazing, but I’m I prefer Wet line Xtreme or Eco Gold. The matching Knot Today leave In is a Holy Grail product for me though!!!
I love this product! You should consider buying the leave in conditioner along with it to save product and to have better definition. The conditioner is bomb ❤️

Love that product, that is the only thing I use to do my two strand twist with adding shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie with some oil, and most definitely love the outcome!
Your hair turned out super cute. You used way too much product though. Trust me, I’ve been there too until I learned how to use it. Although you said you had already washed your hair twice that week you should have soaked it with water and then you would really only use a tiny bit on each section and it goes a long way.
I love the hot tools low dryer. I found mine at Ross for like !

My hair in the front is the same BUT it’s cause when you blow dried or flat ironed, the front is the area that you manipulated the most! Just keep on deep conditioning it and it will curl!
Also, if you do it in the shower, then once you’ve applied it all, take your hands and add a bit of water so you dilute the product some so it won’t cake around your edges!
You should Deff try using a lean in or a curling cream with it so you won’t have to use as much product
Hi! I have type 4 hair as well and I find that the custard/jelly products have always been best for my hair type for curl definition. Cantu also has a good custard for like $5/$6!! I get mine at Walmart 😉

I use Kinky curly and I love. You used a little too much so you might get flakes. Don’t give up on it... please Try again but a little less.

Girl that is waaaay too much! Damn! If I use any more than a tiny scoop it sucks out all the damn moisture in my hair. I really wanted to love their leave in with it but it dries out my hair too. The best combo for me right now is the Cantu leave in, aunt Jackie’s curl la la, and devacurl arc angel gel.

Jaelan, if you use Mielle curling custard, As I am coily gel, Camille Naturals curl maker and Ouidad curl immersion will give you the same results. Mielle curling custard is not crunchy and your hair will feel so soft.

I think you used too much, but beautiful curls. They say the Kinky curly not today leave in works very well with it. I just bought both products wish me luck.
You can get 16 Oz from Amazon for around $25. This is my favorite product ever.
You wouldn't have to use as much if your hair is soaking wet. Water is the key to the product especially for type 4 hair. It will bust your curls and it won't have a filmsy cast. One thing you should know is that kinky curly brand does not work will with others.
You can save a lot of product if you put in the product when it's soaking wet

Great review!! 💯💯 I’ve only used this product to sleep down my buns and it’s great for that. I’m a new natural so I can’t wait to try it on my fully natural hair!! I was on Amazon and you can get the bigger 16oz jar of the gel for like $26 to $28 I believe so that’s what I’m gonna be investing in.

Dilute the custard with water before applying it. It is a very concentrated product.

Thanks for this upload. I forgot all about Kinky Curly Custard. That works so good on one of my kiddos hair and it was decent on mine. We both have type 4 hair. It is a little expensive for such a small bottle but it’s definitely worth putting in your stash. I’m about to order a lot 😂.. oh yeah and definitely use on wet hair.

You’re hair looks great but you definitely used too much product. You’re hair should be like dripping wet when you’re using the gel! You should try the Knot Today leave-in with it. It is bomb!! I use both the Kinky Curly leave-in and gel and I use maybe 1/4 of the container each wash & go and my hair is 4a and longer than yours. Give it another try!
You should let it air dry to about 65% and then diffuse or you can invest in a hooded dryer.
Still the only wash n go product I use.
