    Nice review Paul. Upon checking the EA500 again, i did find it to have a bit of a metallic timbre. It also can be considered resolution but as I tried to custom tune it, the metallic qualities are apparent.

    Thanks so much for the tips on modding the ea1000. I used the DIY ea500 kit 500 filter on the kit nozzles and it really makes a difference. I'm learning I like the pinna curve to peak closer to 3k rather than 2k. Small change on the graph but it's really an improvement.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Simgot are masters of small changes, their two nozzles are small differences, but very noticeable. When you do it yourself, you start noticing and what direction things are moving. Anyway, welcome to the club, your version of EA1000 is better than most of the reviewers who didn't muck with it and complained. Seriously, its a pricey set, I want people to be happy with it so glad you went the extra step.

    Excellent review Paul, to get EA1000 into something that is appealing to me will definitely require some simple diying. There house sound just has too much pinna gain for my tastes. They have put out some great iem sets in 2023 with lots of potential with some simple re-tune tricks on the nozzle.

    For my volumes i used the sponge medium density inside the noozle. Amd then i place a filter outside the nozzle with 150mesh. Rocks like a charm at blasting rock tunes

    • @PaulWasabii

      I think Tone Deaf Monk was close to that mod. I went for the slight change which works for me. But not blasting levels otherwise I'd go your route.

      @PaulWasabii ha ha. He does the mod a bit different. I have 3 modes now. Love the noozle twist. Easy to mod inside their nozzles. There is one type of filter on amazon. It's a sticker for outside the grill. But very different from others. Is like a cotton thick sticker that works better than this thin mesh filters. But the best is the sponge filter inside the nozzle. Always thicks the tone. Love it

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Dangerous territory there as Simgot will push the treble right to the edge. The stock nozzles weren't sweet enough for me which is why I used the DIY kit. A bit more relaxed, a bit sweeter to pair with the bass from the purple DD. Simgot house sound really pushes hard, I do wish they would sweeten it up out of the box.

    Great review! Is the layering and note separation similar to $200 BA hybrid sets?

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +3

      Yeah that is one of those bit where I'd say you need to relax the upper mid a bit so it doesn't sound all high. You lose the stage and layering. But yes, if you fine tune it, you are there without the BA problems. $200 is an awkward BA hybrid area as they tend to be good, but not amazing. Hype 2 was one of the better ones recently which did it with Sonions. Some people will always prefer a highly resolving 1DD with no coherency problems.

      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The hobby is all about paying crazy money for small percent increases. No different here, some people will spend an extra $100 to have that better experience, despite being 10%-ish better. As I said, it is subtle but still noticeable, but not a night and day difference. For that, you need planar or high BA set to go well beyond a very nice DD.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +1

      It depends on your music but they two are close. EA1000 added some low end so overall it won't sound as bright but it is still up there and lots of people will agree with your words. Also why I tried to explain the nozzle from their DIY kit for those who jump in to EA1000 and find it is a bit too much. Simgot's target is basically what you have on EA500.

  • @taipan75
    @taipan75 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Thanks Paul, I'm a fan of Simgot. The EA500 is a special set for its price when you adjust with some filters and foams using the DIY kit..
    From the early reviews I've seen on the EA1000, the consensus appears to be that this is a nice set but at $220 for essentially a single DD set (Not sure the PR technology is ready yet) - it looks to be overpriced....
    Simgot might have lost the value proposition on this one. Ok its a better driver, but maybe for some, paying for the passive radiator technology will be a harder sell...

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I agree and said something about that, it is hard to separate the quality purple driver from the PR. I don't think they are that far off on the custom driver though, it can compete at $200 with hybrids. If you spend the time as you did with EA500, its very good. I think about price often and that one doesn't strike me that far out of bounds if it all. As I mentioned, the stock nozzles aren't showing it in the best light in other reviews. You review what is sent or in the box, but I am a fan too and wanted to set it free and hear what it could do.

      Having only a single DD shouldn't really be a factor at any price point. If an IEM is well tuned it doesn't matter if it's a single DD or a hybrid of 5 BAs + Planar + BC + EST all crammed into a shell. More isn't always best.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +4

      That is one bit I struggled on, it is better but the price gap and the subtleness to the better part makes it a harder sell. On one hand, I absolutely wish it was cheaper but when you hear higher quality drivers like that, they are usually in sets that are more expensive. People are willing to pay absurd amounts for small improvements so some people will certainly buy it, but if you start thinking about how much better is it vs your wallet, that is a diminishing return.

    How does this compare with the BQEYZ Winter?

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +4

      The problem with comparing those two is that Simgot executes on their house sound which is brighter. If you like Winter, EA1000 might be too much. If you like EA500, Winter might not be enough. Both are cool sets though, EA1000 with the PR on the low end and Winter with BC at the mids. I'd like to say I like the mids more on EA1000 because of the way the DD& PR catch the lower parts. But out of the box, Winter treble extension works without messing with nozzles but doesn't have the purple DD. Two very nice sets.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I never heard Falcon Pro but that aligns closer to Oxygen iirc. I'd take it over quintet though but I spent more time fine tuning EA1000. EA500, Olina SE, and even Oxygen can all be fine tuned to some extent.

    How does it compare with Chopin or Nova in imaging -technicalities?

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That is the magic question, but I can guess with the tucked bass, perhaps Chopin sounds more technical, but that is the trade-off assuming you want lighter weight sound. EA1000 is tuned for people who want their male and female vocals or a sound with both lower and upper mids.

  • @TomatePasFraiche
    @TomatePasFraiche Před 8 měsíci +1

    I’m really torn, I didn’t found the EA500 to be anything special even after tons of listening and using the tuning kit, I always found it too relaxed and less wide than my P5. I now have a KZ Castor that I also found better than the 500 (but it’s also very intimate, voices are too close). Also the fit for me has been a pain because the shell is so slippery any cable movement will break the seal no matter what eartips I used.
    Anyway I really like what Simgot is doing in the sense that they are cheap, well built and look so good. I want to believe the ea1000 is a good investement but it’s a pass for me since it’s the same shell and same « house sound ».
    What would be the best single DD upgrade after the EA1000?

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Take a cheaper 1DD like Olina SE or Oxygen which is about the same price. To beat those, you need to step up to planar or a nicer Sonion hybrid. Sounds odd, but I am glad you can appreciate Simgot but acknowledge their house style is probably not for you. It happens and great to know what works for you.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 8 měsíci

      Super hard question and it comes down to balance. Thieaudio does balanced and Simgot tends to be brighter. Both very nice sets but EA1000 is bright out of the box which is why I used the EA500 nozzles, then it drops back closer to Hype 2. If you just want to use something out of the box, then Hype 2, it also has a little bit less warmth in the midbass. Hype 2 has that dip so a bit cleaner and better stage. Hype 2 is real, real good. EA1000 is very good after fine tuning it.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  Před 7 měsíci

      A bit of a personal decision there as some people are always drawn to 1DD sets. They would take 1DD over 5 drivers for the timbre alone. Other people will be drawn to the technicals provided by Quintet at the expense of some timbre. You need to figure out your priority vs what is provided by those sets. I'd pick up EA1000 over Quintet though as I have planars for techs.
