The joys of fitting aftermarket parts. You wonder what these companies are thinking of, to me the scope is to produce a presise copy of the origional panel, not something that is almost, but not there. Keep up the great work lots of attention to your videos from us guys in the UK. Dave,. London
I aquired my 68 coupe in 2012. It was only a matter of weeks before I found your channel. I have been referring back for the last 11 going on 12 years to learn and also validate things I've done. I've watched so many videos 5 times over or more. I'm still working on that same car in 2023. No longer a young man but I still get after it. Thanks Barry for all the hard work you put in. You're a valuable resource/teacher brother.
Gotta say, that was looking like a huge green weenie there for a minute. Cutting those reliefs was an excellent way to dodge the bullet on the quarter panel to door dilema. Very informative, nice trick with those complicated angles.
Another great job..I especially like to see how you address the inevitable issues that come up ...that's where the real "education" comes from.
Once again fantastic video. Your attention to detail is greatly appreciated. Thank you Barry
I recently purchased a 67 coupe, thanks for the vids, very informative, I've subscribed!
LOVE the "I spoke too soon"....Know that feeling well...
Great video as always! I really appreciate watching a true professional at work. Thanks!!!
Well, misery loves company as the saying goes. I have so many of the same issues with the full quarter, inner tail fin and tailpan on my 57Chevy. Nothing quite fits. Thanks for the inspiration to get on with it, although you would expect an $800 quarter panel to fit at least somewhat close.
You are a great source of inspiration, thankyou for these fantastic videos
great fabrication and problem solving your the best ive seen on youtube thanks for sharing your skills learning so many good technics much appreciated
Man you wrestled that jacked up quarter into submission. True craftsman working through the mess to make it fit like it should. Awesome 👍I'm happy my quarters are in good shape I've seen and heard horror stories with fitment of the aftermarket panels.
Love your videos Jo Daddy!!!! You have crazy awesome skills sir. I have learned tons and tons from watching your channel. Thanks so much. Cheers from Motown!!!
Love the videos man I can't wait to see this car come together!
Damn dude, you're freaking amazing. Just found your channel yesterday so still watching through your vids but I had to sub after watching this one! Nice job and thanks for the content!
Great video as usual, I really appreciate the lessons and have learned a lot here. Your constant fitment verification techniques came in handy last week as I thought that I had good fitment on my 73 Mach 1 trunk pan, I was off by about 3/8 inch, but good now after a little manipulation. Had the same "fighting" issues with the quarter and the trunk drop offs too. Thanks for everything and keep it up.
Bruce you are the Mustangs Unlimited generic part Daddy!!! Great Work!
Thanks very much for posting, love these educational videos.
Great videos I love the mustang too. My favorite car because I had one in high school in the seventies.
Great video and instruction as always. Thanks Ron
Very nice, I like your info, GREAT job.helps me a lot as I learn how to deal with the aftermarket parts.
Great job Barry.
All my best.
Bobby
Nicely explained and well done! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos :-)
Thanks for sharing. I'm at the same point and this is how I got my car. You have just explained alot
Great video !!!! Thank you for showing how to work the metal
Great video, very educational for a new guy like myself. I am currently working on a 76 bronco, and your our attention to detail is greatly appreciated and helpful. Please keep the videos coming!
Thanks. Will do.
Great job great video! Can't wait till the next one thanks for sharing!
Amazing video Barry! The way you film and explain things is fantastic, Super instructive and of course, your attention to detail is right on the money!
Cheers from Uruguay!
Hit the edge with a 2x4 where it's concave and hit it ,it will go in 1/4 to door gap
Fantastic attention to detail.
Thank you very much for the awesome video. :-)
thanks for the inspiration and great videos you put out!!!
Great work and video as always!
Fine work, Sir.
Great vid Barry. I really like how you showed the work and also the problem solving techniques used. I thought measuring the fitment of the wheel house to quarter before they were on the car was a great idea. Thanks for the info.
Thanks Russell.
You are a very smart man thank you for sharing knowledge
Excellent Work getting that quarter to fit...
GREAT VIDEO! I LIKE YOUR LITTLE BUDDY IN THE TRUNK.
fantastic work !!
THANK YOU...for sharing. Nice work.
Great video going thru the same stuff right now,
Great video, great work too.thanks.
Nice video , greetings from the Netherlands !. Love your work , A lot of the mustangs I have got from the US have verry bad repairs with bondo and trafic signs in places you not want them and a lot of rust
Hello. Sorry to hear that, but it is all too common.
Great job my friend
This helps me a lot on mine.
Great, informative videos! Definitely gives us novices like myself hope. In the future, can you give a short lesson on your welding set up. Thanks again and keep posting your videos, they are the best without a doubt! GB
I will keep that in mind. I can't remember if I covered that before.
Nice job looking good
I just bought a 67 fairlane that they overlapped the quarter like that one never saw that before i will be cutting fixing that correctly i want to thank you for the vifoes even though you are doing a mustang a lot of stuff you point out is the same i am not a professional body man just do my own so the pointers sre a big help
Rebuild my Mach 1 👍 great work
i use cavity wax inside sills at work, helps provide more protection on top of paint
The people that make the panels should watch
Just FYI...not sure if it was the idea I gave you but that same method for spraying INSIDE works inside the doors too...also behind the rear quarters...anywhere that is not easy to reach ...also , under the hood, in the channels - and the way to store POR 15 so you can re-open ? Use plastic wrap around the top and a rubber band...No metal lid needed
Nice 😁. As always
Good info video Barry on the fitment issues on the quarter panel and tell extension looking forward to the next video how's Brooklyn Pony coming along.
awesome :)
Hey Jo Daddy, super job on the quarter panel on Jade, so much to get everything right, glad your back on Jade, really missed the work on Jade during the down time, would be awesome to see Jade come closer to completion, oh yeah one more thing when you are mig welding do you use argon or just shielded wire? Thanks Desert Rat
Argon/CO2 mix.
Just got a 68 to restore for my wife. Your videos have been extremely helpful is preparing me for what I am getting into but the previous video to this one seems to be missing. I couldn't find one with the removal of the quarter panels.
Should be in the playlist.
iron man in the trunk
Great video. I'd like to see how you'll fit that fender to that door. They didn't make that part fit well at all. The cove area is all wrong
I see you have the flash super hero in your trunk!
Iron Man.
Great Video and very informative, you are my guiding star to tear into my 67. I need to replace the driver rear quarter and also what ever is discovered on the way in. I wonder if your existing quarters are from a 65-66 because the way the accents attach in the scoop area (dished area by the b pillar), I kind of wonder if that was what they could find or had on hand, so they made them work? they definitely weren't 67/68.
65/66 quarters would not even come close to fitting. I think they were generic panels stamped in the 80's.
Exactly what I needed, this video is gold. I need to do this same work, but on a 68 fastback. The way in which you worked with imperfections in aftermarket panels is definitely a lesson to lean on. I contemplated ordering a coupe fender to save a couple hundred bucks on the panel, cutting below that top corner body line, and then matching contour. However, I understand there's enough difference between coupe and fastback contours to make that a risky proposition. Thoughts on that? After all is said and done, what coatings do you put on the inner wheelhouses in those nooks and crannies where it meets the quarter?
I would go with the fastback quarter to be sure. I can't say if there are any real noticeable differences though. Typically, I will heavy spray self etch primer into the gaps. You can add seam sealer later to make it air tight.
very good skil again,,, now it fits,, but barry dont you do nothing on that service rust on the b paler and wheelhouse holder..? something like owatrol oil... and then paint it or put the black tar on it,,
I may. Not really necessary in the Southern US.
Have you ever used Corroseal rust converter metal primer? I had idea of using long straight brake line hooked to siphon nozzle
I have not.
how to did you separate the outer wheel housing from the inner. I know its rolled welded and I'm having a hard time figuring out how I'm going to do this. Thanks in adance
I can't say for sure on this car. I did a video on the Mystique mustang. On that car I didn't actually separate them, I cut the flange off for the old outer, and just welded the new one to that piece. it's not that thick, and it was a lot easier.
Will you be saving the other quarter and tail panel or just disposing of them?
Not saving them.
What is your back story Jo Daddy? Where and how did you learn all this. I am just Amazed. Dayyyyyum! I sure wished you were my neighbor, lol
Dad had a junkyard growing up, so I've been around cars since I was born. I'm also an aircraft mechanic, and owned /operated a body shop for 7 years.
@@JoDaddysGarage It all makes perfect sense now! Bless you sir. Glad my 67 Mustang is pretty much turn key now. Converted from 8 sec race car to street car. Just have to get than dang full spool out of the 9". Can I go with the spider gears or have to go to limited slip differential?
I actually did a video on removing the spool. You can go either way. I just put in spider gears.
@@JoDaddysGarage Yes sir, I viewed that one yesterday. Spider gears are $100 limited slip is $339 summit. Excellent video on that spool, I can do this if I can get my old A$$ under there, lol
@@JoDaddysGarage Hi Again JD! I did my research on spider (Open) and limited slip applications. I have to go with the LS diff due to my Horse power and torque specs. I will certainly review the vid as it still applies to my 9". But damm, the price difference, lol Take care and be safe. Bob in Michigan
Great video Barry. Are you going to leave the side marker lights off?
I think so. They were just reflectors on this car anyway.
are the aftermarket panels close in gauge thickness ? great work
They're pretty close.
Love the use of the cardboard template for a comparison! Would it be beneficial to you to make one out of MDF or plywood and use it and the relief cuts to press the quarter into shape while welding it?
Hmm. I suppose you could. Never really thought of that.
@@JoDaddysGarage I'll have to give it a shot when I weld in my 69 quarter and let you know!
Yes he does. Love the videos. Keep them coming? Do have an email address I could send a question to you about 65 mustang I’m looking at

This stuff works great for inside rockers and frames, has a long wand and nozzle that sprays in all directions.
What kind of gas do you use fot your mig wilder?
Argon/CO2 mix
Jo Daddy's Garage thanks:D but i Mean what is the ratio? With My Mig welder i get alot of "bubbels" in the weld. So maby you Have another mixture
75 Argon/25 CO2
Jo Daddy's Garage thanks thanks!
whats the car worth when its complete barry
I really don't know. Not something I tend to consider when I'm building something.
Whats with the Iron Man doll you have placed though out your video?
It's my tribute to Iron Man. As a kid, he was my favorite character because he could build anything. Uses his hands and mind to overcome challenges. I guess he motivated me.
Well Barry is somewhat of a "Metal Man" himself with all this body work. Iron man is the perfect sidekick! I got a kick out of him in there too.
I see the secret to your success. Is that Spidey?
Iron Man
Whats up with ironman
He was my favorite superhero growing up. Guy used his mind and hands to get stuff done. Kind of a tribute.
same made in u.s.a is the shit !!!!
Barry,do you have a email or face book page that I can contact you??Thanks Harvey

I don’t think you can call it original anymore. Lol
I don't understand why you just cover up the rust and just weld new parts on top of rust. The next guy is just going to have to replace every thing you are doing. It's all open. It should be rust proofing at all times!
I assume you've never done these type of repairs before. If you're referring to the surface rust on the inner structure, it's not going anywhere. Everything else including the inside of the rocker was treated.
