- Ukraine says it has captured 92 settlements so far in the Russian Kursk region. This comes after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed the goal of the surprise incursion is to create a buffer zone with Russia. CBS News' Ian Lee reports from the Ukraine-Russia border.

It 100% is..... It is great people who love Ukraine get this now. It is and has been a small border skirmish with 1 tiny sh*thole nation and a big nation of losers. UA has never had global relevance though. For 2 decades being the most corrupt nation in EU was their gig.
War happens. Some are irrelevant like this Russian one. Sometimes when you go to war no one cares. People on the internet and youtube cry about how much they care. But as you watch your child carved into tiny pieces by shrapnel, none of those youtubers would ever be there. War is horrible/horrific. If I could die and my death ends this I am in Indianapolis, Indiana Tony S.... I will trade, this is awful.
But as you pointed out its a minor skirmish. Russia is fighting larger battles on 2-3 other fronts, building up the largest presence on the north pole, traveling to outer-space and making their own bullets and most of their other weapons. How is that possible? This as you pointed out isn't really a war its a limited and isolated military operation

Truly a sad statement about the Russian military. They can't even defend their own border, don't have air superiority after 3 years, and have barely made any further gains in Ukraine. All this versus a country much smaller than them, and right next to them. They could win entirely today and it would still look horrible for Russia. Ukraine is never going to surrender it's land, Putin should end this embarrassment before it ends him.

No, the operation was likely to destroy resource lines and capture as many conscripts as possibles likely a few thousand have been captured and almost a thousand more killed.

Some of these "villages" are not even large enough by local standards to be villages. Some are a few families "farmstead" with 60 people or less - " khutor".....
No offense or hate to the people there in RU. But we know a lot about this Oblast. It is irrelevant, the people are poor and until 2020 mostly forgotten about. The closer you get to UA the poorer they get. Average is about $550 USD a month many closer to $400. People are bragging about how Ukrainians with tens-hundreds of billions of dollars, access to satellites and the best tech in the world (like the whole thing). People are bragging bout how UA kicked down the door or some farmer whose 60 + and probably didn't shower in weeks whose 1 legged goat passed 3 yrs ago.
(It sucks, I am not mocking. People in that part of RU are not educated and very poor. Which is why this PR operation is occuring there I guess)

The 3 bridges are to the very north of Kursk oblast far to the rear. This has prevented the remnants of Russian forces - 7-800 soldiers from retreating, or at least retreating easily.

Fact check - Ukraine has ordered the evacuation of the city of Toretsk. It's population as of July 2024 was estimated at around 5,000. (It did have a population of just under 31,000 in February 2022).
