I imagine it would be an extremely challenging, wide open-world world game with an emphasis on depth and scale. Not sure how they'd integrate the curse though. Maybe you'd need to have different save states to go back and explore the different layers fully.

The first layer would give the character just a debuff in stamina.
The second layers debuf effect is even stronger and additionaly you have a nausea effect in you. If you are to long in this state the character puces and looses some saturation Points (I guess because Made in Abyss is also about survival and eating all these edible Strange animals should ne Part of the Game. These Points could increase stamina Regeneration rate and if starving you take slowly damage).
Now the Gamedesign should take the curse into Account to prevent to much frustation for the Players.
The third would additionaly to even stronger debuff to stamina give a strong nausea filter over the Screen to make orientation difficult. And hinder the running ability because of pain. You also loose health at a very slow rate.
The fourth layer would increase all the previous effects and also warp the color of the screen to simulate halucinations. Even walking ist now slowed down because of pain. In this layer you lose much more health because of blood loss. Clothes get dirty so you need to camp to change them, otherwise you get an effect that increases the probability of sickness.
The fourth would already be a hard Mode. But now there are the Game breakers!
The fifth layer would make Gamedesign very difficult as going up will (additionaly to the previous effects) give you total sense loss. The vision range decreases basically to nothing and you can't controll your character. Leading to taking Fall damage or, worst case, falling into the sea, resulting in certain Death. Lakes become basically Lava for you and climbing up would be nearly suicide. The areas further away from the Center would have less severe effects to enable at least a little exploration.
Layer six would make climbing up an insta Game over as you mutate into an slime and may die from the transformation. To make a little exploration possible the Naherate Village could be like a Tower with many flores, reaching to the bottom of the sixth layer with an elevator for value. The village would also act as a second safe point. The first would be Orth. Therefore you also can safely go up as the village blocks the curse and explore the layer.
The seventh layer would be a one way down. Not much exploration as any attempt in going up would result in an Instant Game over.
So basically You loose the ability to climb Up over time and the Game Design should adapt to it to not have a lot of literally dead ends.
I guess by adding animals from layer 4 down below, that can literally see your next moves would already result in a lot of Beinen Controllers.
It would slowly turn toa DARK Soul eske survival experience where You avoid ANY Predator to avoid Death.
stuff like this is why ill never get the same emotional impact out of manga

けど根底にあるのは何故か"安心感"。
Most memorable scene in the show for me is when riko explains her long dream while sleeping at end of s1. She dreams she is trapped, crying, and afraid. But then she sees someone else afraid and crying. That gives her comfort. For some reason, they contact each other with their eyeballs. Then eventually this person stops crying and leaves. This person was mitty. The whole time this scene was being played, this song was being played too.

The soundtrack perfectly captures the beauty and underlying terror of The Abyss
Honestly this is my favorite track in the series. It plays whenever there’s a mystery hinted at, or a hauntingly eerie moment. Personally, I see this as Ozen’s theme because of that one scene where she states that Lyza is alive. Also it reminds me of Nanachi and Mitty, and just anything to do with the white whistles. It encompasses all that is the abyss, feeling like you’re going into a downwards spiral of bizzareness.
To explain what The Abyss’s atmosphere (as well as the atmosphere of the entire series), I would just play someone this song. Truly a gem.

i dont know what anime this is but i would definitely agree with you since i remember a time where this music used to play in a very famous roblox game, yba. Now the game is just kind of abandoned by the devs and it receives no updates and it truly captures all the emotions you said, about a time where this game was glorious.

Same, when I think of Made in Abyss's OST, I immediately think of this one. It mixes everything in MiA. Sadness, hope, mysterious, nostalgia and curiosity
It's incredible how only a few chords can paint this mysterious tone of the whole season going forward.
This soundtrack is the best of the series! This is one of those songs that you remember over and over.
It makes me nostalgic just listening to it and it's hard to describe...
It's almost like the song itself is describing that feeling of adventure.
Only a few rare things have inspired me like this. Eventually I have to let them go in some way but the feeling is still with me.

I really love this Ost. When I listen to it, it reminds me of the feeling I often get when I look at mountains laying on the distant horizon. It's a bit of frustration, almost like I am in one place when I know I should be somewhere else, somewhere far away. It is an inpatient melody, painful even, that urges me to go and explore how big the world is. I love how they captured it

When finished the 1st season I felt more complicated emotions than I have in a long time.

An unprecedented feeling of moving forward into the warm darkness… but for some reason the underlying feeling is a sense of security?
Feels like winter. This track has great vibes, slightly creepy. Really goes well in this anime and really brings out the creepy atmosphere delving into the Abyss.

Happy Dolphin they obviously want music inspired by what’s happening in the story. And that music doesn’t get made until there’s an anime, “casual”
Manga Fury actually it is true. They don’t make the music WHEN the manga comes out. It comes out later. And at that point if you’re waiting to read it with the music you might as well just wait until the anime adaption is out because that’s the far better experience (music wise). That’s not an opinion that’s a fact. Because the music is synced up to certain moments that happen in the story. And finding exactly what that is is hard when you are the audience. Granted that doesn’t stop you from enjoying it.
Manga Fury the music thing is more for music lovers than anime fans. You don’t need to be an anime fan to like it but having a good understanding and appreciation for it enhances the adaptation like no other. The thing that I was stating as fact was that more goes into the identity of what every part of the song means in the anime adaption. Good anime’s have good musically choreographed scenes that line up well with the movements in the anime. That’s something that doesn’t happen with manga. Now remember we are talking about OSTs that were strictly made for the corresponding anime. Can you use that music while reading another manga? Of course. But it’s a different experience than when you’re actually watching the animation and intended choreographed scenes. I never said reading manga isn’t as good. In fact I think in certain stories you’d probably enjoy it more. But it’s undeniable that if you’re looking for the other things like OST in these situations that the anime is what it was intended for
