The weather and storms in China lately are apocalyptic. Did you see the size of hail that guy was holding up?!(different video) It was the size of a melon! I guess xi himself doesn't want conflict with the American forces but he must show a powerful facade to appear stable and secure. I would not want to be in his shoes, it's a government with a lot of sharks, each wanting to be in charge and all waiting for signs of weakness to exploit.
Correct, it is a facade, because the elephants in the room are the weak Chinese consumer (both historically and presently), the biggest, the ability of developed economies to place higher tariffs or an import ban on Chinese EVs.
Surely the CCP knows that countries can easily do this, and that there is plenty of political will to do so, so this forward course of action now that property is going bust is a sign of desperation.

1. Outstanding description of international diplomatic protocol and manuvering. It hasn't changed.
2. The Nixon/Kissinger flight to the PRC was not spur of the moment and dynamic as protrayed in the news at the time. General Haig went to China first and went through the protocol of mock state dinners just to test whether the Chinese were out to embarrass Nixon. In Shanghai, the local controlling administration was so insulting to Haig that Nixon's visit was nearly called off. The traditional and incondoctrinated protocl was historically treating visiting foreign deligations as subsurvient vassals paying homage to the Middle Kingdom. Thereafter, lessons were taught in international protocol in China.

The limiting factor in the West's production of artillery shells for Ukraine is propellants, IE gunpowder. This along with the machine tools and micro-chips are among the most important things China is providing Russia. Can you imagine the Russian army continuing to fight without shells? They can't produce a fraction of what they are using by themselves.

@China Insights, you raise a good point and advice to the us to separate ccp from 1.4 billion chinese, but how are you going to do that when the ccp is heavily saturated with the population and all local corporations running businesses in china? you cannot, the us government is doing the right thing, to "diversify businesses and pull out investments from china, that's the only solution.

We are definitely seeing a cooling of in US China relations. And it will be China that pays the price, whether xi wants to believe it or not. He has China in such poor shape that it’s mind boggling. This has nothing to do with fair trade between nations but personal stup*dity as well as greed for power and control for one man only, not the people of China.

An absolutely outstanding analysis. Sean, and I don’t say that lightly…! You see the situation exactly as it is… ! The only thing the Americans can do is put more import taxes, et cetera, on Chinese goods coming into the USA. It would be helpful. Also if the Europeans had more backbone and did the same with Chinese imports. Sometimes I fear that leaders in the West and other democratic countries. don’t really see the threat that the PRC poses and only by having a solid coalition against the PRC will anything change. It would be very interesting if the Europeans made Xi Jinping visit obscure German or French cities before having a top level meeting with European leaders!😅 You really have to pay him at his own game.

Good video, but my take on Blinken and Yellen's visits was a little different. First, anyone who was expecting meaningful concessions from the CCP was living in a dream world. Due to their economy the CCP is not in a position where it can meaningfully stop exporting. Their domestic economy simply does not have the consumption power (one third of its GDP compared to the US, which is at two-thirds), the economy is in deflation (no one is buying), and their property bubble is popping.
The CCP's model of growth, especially since the 2008 financial crisis, has been investment-led into infrastructure and.....property. Now that this bubble is popping, and many infrastructure projects are either mismanaged or are losing money, the CCP has chosen a new investment vehicle: EVs, solar power batteries, etc.
This is a classic case of the failure of central planning, because while the CCP has invested enormous money into infrastructure (mix results), property (going bust), and now EVs, they invested much more than the domestic market demand could handle, and now they are left with mass housing oversupply (and most of these houses are either unfinished or unlivable) and now scores of EVs that they cannot sell domestically.
Therefore, Blinken and Yellen did not have to say much, and I'm guessing they were also aware they would not receive many, if any, concessions. They didn't have to say much because the US, EU and our allies have the major card right now: the ability to block the importation of Chinese EVs (and any other overproduced item used as a jobs work program) into our markets.
This is why Xi was pacing nervously, but as face-saving culture in China, trying to present an emperor-like appearance. What will likely happen is that developed economies, in protecting their industries, will tariff the heck out of select Chinese imports, and China will dump these products on Russia, NK, and other third world countries. Russia is becoming a vassal state of China, and for China this is out of necessity.
It was surreal listening to Blinken and Yellen state directly, in Beijing, that the Chinese government's actions would not be tolerated, and surreal to see Yellen point out the small power of the Chinese consumer. This is what should be noticed, and most of the rest is fluff. Unlike many, to me the US came out of this looking like the strong but quiet guy in the room, wanting peace, while the Chinese government came out looking like the barking dog, all hat and no cattle.
