Love The Beat, but this is singularly the most amazing, emotionally impacting version of any song ever recorded. Strangely this is the only song I could loop all day long. It is singularly evocative. It makes me unabashedly weep like no other I can speak to in the almost 60 years I have been planted on planet A.
In my humble opinion Pete Townsend is one of the best musicians, composers, song writers of all time. His bio WHO I AM was both fascinating and captivating. His acoustic guitar work is incredible especially when combined with his electric guitar and the band. Great cover of an awesome song too❤

This song makes me think of how badly I miss my son for some reason. It will always have a very special place in my heart. I'll never give up. Never gonna run away. I will hold him again someday, if it's the last thing I do, I'll die happy.
Give Pete his flowers for this one. He took a song he didn’t write and made it utterly his own. As great as the original is (and it’s one of my favorites), Pete beats it with an acoustic guitar, bass, and piano. Makes it feel it even more resolute and desperate at once. A lesson in personalization
A testament to how great a song this is. The Beat and Townsend have approached the song from completely different angles, one is ska-based and one classic accoustic. And both versions are extraordinarily powerful. An awesome piece of songwriting. And two perfect performances. Love 'em both.
Lately I have been tuned into Entwhistle's unbelievable mastery, but your comment grabbed my attention because it is so true! You ain't kidding, brother! Townshend is a deft hand at guitar. His technique is lively and clean-sounding but never methodic or robotic. He plays relaxed and loose, like he was born to play! The absolute best good habit to establish early on if you want to enjoy a long profitable career touring.

@A.J. Kohlhepp It must be quite an honor to know that Pete Townshend loves your song. AND performs it so beautifully. I would be floating on air much like I was when I was able to meet him as a teenager. He was quite gracious and kind. My life was complete as far as I was concerned at that point.

@tpp5151 If someone had said to me, “You know that song ‘Save It For Later?’ Don’t you think that it was practically custom-made for Pete Townshend? I mean, you’re a big fan of _All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes_ and _White City._ Can’t you totally imagine Pete singing this?” I would _have_ to have replied with a resounding “YES!” The story in Wikipedia about Pete calling up the songwriter (English Beat guitarist Dave Wakeling, who assumed he was being pranked) and, saying “I’m sitting with David Gilmour, and we're trying to work out [how to play the chords]” is classic!
Totally LOVE English Beat. Dave in particular. Both are wonderful and moving. Dave and his rich sexy voice..But this version by Pete is beyond any words I can fabricate...makes me cry. So beautiful and deep.

The best Beat song ever covered by one of the greatest musicians ever. The piano section just before "Why don't you hold me" is simply sublime. Now and again, the gods of algorithm really do get it right.

It’s 6 am and about to finish night shift and I found this brilliant song
I love Pete Townshend's voice.
0:27 I know the original message of this song is about growing up. But for those of us who battle addiction this song was written by angels and in this cover, played by one. It is now my anthem and higher power.
Wonderful. A fan of The Who and The English Beat but I never knew Mr. Townsend covered this song.
way to pay homage to one of the best underappreciated bands of the 80's.
Wouldn't call them 'underappreciated' , .or 'short-lived'.
Yet another great reason to respect one of the great geniuses of pop-era rock music. You don't hear him covering that many tunes, but he clearly gives the songwriting its due with this incredible rendition. What a treasure.
Simply beautiful, Townshend never lost his innocence.....
An indescribably beautiful cover of an already marvelous song. Pure magic.
This is so incredible. Pete's so powerful.
One of the most memorable songs of my youth while living ing England. The original version was awesome, but the way this legend put it together helps me reflect.
Can't.Stop.Listening. I love this version...
Gosh where do I begin. This much talent in one single person. To give me such joy.
How do you harness that shit. I know he harnesses that in himself. What it must be like.
Love has an amazing soundtrack :)
Fuck off
+davidkrod thanks
no need to be such a cock...
david
David is a feisty little tyke! You okay over there, little buddy?
Mickey ♥️
This song just has something on me I can stop when I start listening
This sounds more like a Pete Townshend song than most Pete Townshend songs.
I'd be honored if some P.T. fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of SLITSKIRTS and A LITTLE IS ENOUGH on my YT channel in tribute to the master of lyricism & composition. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and keep on rocking.
I feel the same!
@@willritter4076 If you post your channel info I would like to listen. Thank you.
right
My favorite musician of all time.
Awesome version
1st time I've heard this version, absolutely amazing!
Love a series from Netflix bought me here. What a beautiful song!
Me too! Just watched that episode last night
Acoustic; improvisational qualities; had HIS generational stamp on it. Pretty excellent (all around!) cover.
My heart. How I LOVE Pete. let me count the ways..............
"love the incorporation of the piano"
Agree, but don't rule out the subtle bass-line as well. This is a true gem indeed.
U R NOT ME
This is excellent - he made it his own. Glad I came across this by chance tonight.
I always come back to this.
Why isn't this version on Spotify (or on any streaming service for that matter), it's sooo good!
it's on Live One (formerly Slacker)!🙂
I cannot find this anywhere.
@@paolobenmore3504 it’s a bonus track on white city but sadly I don’t think the streaming rights will ever get figured out
@@jaykay5811 Thanks for that tip - just bought the CD. Streaming is very hit or miss.
Pete's my second all time favorite singer. My first is that other guy who sings for The Who. Thanks for the upload!!!👍
Who could possibly dislike this cover? It's one of the best.
Something spellbinding about the tuning...just a treasure....hypnotic.
What a terrific cover, classic Townshend!
Sooooo good!
Heard a couple of anecdotes about Pete Townshend talking about songs he loves, only just discovered this cover, in my opinion one of the best songs ever written. He also said that ‘SOS’ by ABBA is a perfect pop song, I couldn’t agree more. Man has taste
The best Beat song ever covered by one of the greatest musicians ever. The piano section just before "Why don't you hold me" is simply sublime. Now and again, the gods of algorithm really do get it right.
Perfect song for Townshend to cover. And, what a cover! G.
A good friend of mine recommended me this song, it was just as good as the original, sadly he passed away this past year. I'll always remember our friendship and conversations. R.I.P AJ
Rest In Peace to your friend Evan… he certainly had great taste. God bless.
@@booeyats1 thank you, that means alot and also reminded me to listen to this song again. Aj was such a good person and was always there to talk whenever you needed him. A great human being, God bless you aswell.
sorry for your loss never easy losing friends
My favourite Beat song, Pete nails it
beautiful version...

....u know the time, when a voice u grew up on and recognize as a close trusted companion sings one of ur favorite songs from another well worn travel companion
Saving this song in my CZcams playlist. For later.
