I Built Bizarre Submarine Drones Because I can't Be Normal | From The Depths Drone Challenge Run

- Submarines can be sometimes game breaking, but when the difficulty increases so much with such large enemies so quickly sometimes a bit of cheese is needed! Submarines are not something I build often but these were super fun to build, even If they did end up looking like odd planes.
Really hope you enjoy this part 2 to the Drone Only/Mothership Challenge! Such a fun run so far to record! :D

At 18:50 I jump over into the sandbox mode for a few minutes to test out the submarine - Nothing was built/changed on It in this time but I felt I needed to double check some systems I was unsure about before making multiple of them! As the rules state - I'm allowed to use the sandbox mode but I want to keep It to a minimum! I just forgot to put the message on screen about this in the video at the time!
Basic Rules:
- No Single SUPER Drone, lots of smaller drones for fun and insanity.
- Sandbox mode is allowed but heavily discouraged
- No damage from the mothership, this includes point defense style weapons e.g. missile interceptors
- No damage from the avatar
- Passive detection set to 0 (The AI gets no detection without detection blocks.) This may be set to 0.1 If the enemy AI has trouble finding us to start fights.
- No Capturing Intentionally

14:40 ish - What I MEAN Is that at a distance It looks like Onyx Watch, but It is in fact Steel Striders. It's why I go into a little talk about It NOT having the crenellations that are traditional on Onyx Watch ships. You can see the huge Steel strider logo on the craft haha! Words are difficult..

I know that it is too late to recommend something for a style or idea for things to do with this particular run, but that will not stop me from giving you future source material for inspiration! Have you ever heard of an old(ish) game for the PS2 called "Snoopy VS The Red Baron"? I'll admit the style is pretty stereotypical and even a little odd, but there are some things that I think someone like you could turn into some very interesting vehicles in From the Depths.
Suggestion: an energy weapon only run
As for challenge runs Submarine only could be another rerun. Only fire weapons under water this includes anti missile munition. why? because we all know to travel you will need to get out and above water BUT no defending in the air, no smoke, no shields no anti munition as soon as you crash into the waves all is fair... oh and no missiles only torpedos... AA Cram, Auto, Laser or Particle.
Lathrix! I noticed you were disappointed with the accuracy for the rapid HEAT, try adding tracers to the shell to buff accuracy.
Also for detection make use of the inter vehicle transmitter(I think it's called?) It'll let all your drones give eachother target information even if they don't see it themselves.

Now i don’t know how hard this would be to do, but i’d love if at some point you’d do a massive blast from the past design showcase where you’d take a look back at as many old designs of yours that you can recover, i think i’d be really cool to see your progress as a designer

Those little subs are shockingly good for their cost and the fact that you somehow also made them look like dolphins.
And with a few spin blocks and pistons, they can have moving, working fins …
Small submarines and space drones are some of the best cheap craft in game.
It's a shame about the algorithm bullying your FtD videos... I really enjoy this series.
To go back to your point that there's something special about the pre-built ships, I think a lot has to do with the fact that many of them sacrifice functionality for aesthetics. Tons of them have cockpits, bridges, hallways, walkways, etc. I'd love to see your take on a ship's bridge on one of your dreadnoughts.

I think it'll be a good idea to put some very weak anti air gatling turrets on the main carrier just because they'll look cool
Or set up a twin guard style suspended defense point.

Knowing how complicated this game is. It’s incredible how easily you just swap between different parts when building.

I know you said the algorithm is expecting full play-throughs from you, but I for one am glad to see the return of the episodic lets play, as it lets me look forward to each new episode to see what happens to the stories I have become invested in.

Lathrix! Some interesting things with plasma cannons:
-What endpoint they have affects their behaviour! The shot splitter allows for near-unlimited RPM shooting at the cost of decreased damage (it can go above 600 RPM and not have to wait unlike the others)
-The 'Consolidator' allows you to change how many charges per shot you have, I recommend 10 as with a decent setup that'll get you to around 10k-20k damage per shot with a whole load of AP
-The 'shotgun' attachment is REALLY good, if you set it to shoot a burst of 4-5 charge plasma shots, it can 1shot some pretty large vehicles via just obliterating vital comps!

Id like to request a playthrough of you limiting/ challengeing yourself to making heavy use of references and a theme to build a little fleet of crafts, maybe do another campaign playthrough (always love these)

Everyone can have difficulty recognizing when their own works of art look good but I promise this.
All those rails and edges, that it's become a recognizable thing, that I could say something looks 'Lathrixian' and people'd know what that means, it's glorious, aesthetics are not just one path, this one is great in different ways than what the other craft take.
From the Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future, regardless of format. Honestly, I enjoy both the episodic format and the condensed "movie" format... I am possessed of strange tastes, however.
The acknowledgement of the (accidental) use of another disabling weapon instead of bulk damage is greatly appreciated, by the way. Validates my internal snickering at those "can't help it" moments many (myself included) tend to suffer from in building games.
Suggestion: an energy weapon only run on the sea adventure mode.

I love both the full play through and let’s play style videos you’ve been putting out. Been watching since around the neter campaign which funny enough started with a little drone-esque design if I recall correctly. I’ve always loved all your From the depths gameplay, keep up the good stuff mate
That one fight against the battleship I forgot the name of was amazing, probably one of the best in this channel

I just got FTD and now have alot of respect for all of your build.This is a game that I want to see continued in the future along with reassembly
One thing I've always wanted to see (but never had the patience to make) is a sub that moves directly under enemy ships before firing a swarm of harpoons at it, and drags it under water. Mount some spinning melee bits on the top, make it look like one of those heavy shredders.
Call it the Kraken.
Or a weaker version that can't really drag enemy ships under water, but can drag itself to enemy ships, and call it the Limpet.
I think the crossbones fight encapsulates what we like in these series, a extremely difficult fight with everything on the line!
I think this series is so great because you get to design different units to accomplish objectives like in campaign, but it doesn’t have the super long winded and sorta slow gameplay of the campaign. Also, might I suggest an ‘armor busting’ craft of some sort? I would personally suggest some kind of cram mortar boat, or cram bomber, since that sounds cool

quick camera tip for ya lathrix: If you press shift+caps lock, the camera will snap to and follow whatever block you're looking at.
More FTD content is allways great and really makes my day better.
I dont have too much time to play the game and FTD is a very time consuming game, so seeing you make fun creations and testing stuff is quite soothing.

Would love to see one of these where you have a mothership and drones who are all captured ships. Probably need some rules to make it a challenge but would still be fun.

Glad the series is continuing. I had an idea for the carrier. A lot of the drones seem pretty generalist in nature and while im sure this is very reliable, i think it would be interesting if the next drones you built were specialist types? Like maybe some nuke boats that are like the UAVs that the military uses, mine layers, rammers, et cetera. Probably not the most effective use of your materials but it would be fun to be able to pick and choose what kinds of drones you would deploy for a fight

You could put the subs' missiles on a turret. Let the drones circle the enemy and let those missiles fly straight at em :)

Would love to see a run/campaign where it's tons and tons of tiny drones. Each doing their own Individual task. Like one that is there for this gun, that gun, missile defence, mini melee drills etc.
All drones cost next to nothing but just sheer volume picking apart the enemy piece by piece.

It was pretty cool watching the Crossbones battle the Swarm, though maybe a bomber drone could be a good next ship considering how close the fight against the Crossbones was.
Love the railgun isopod! The deadliest woodlouse.
Plasma actually pairs well with APS it seems. Plasma chunks armor a bit, revealing flat surfaces for APS to, well, not bounce off of.
